Chapter 11 - Run

1080 Words
Run…… Run….. Run… Run.. Run. RUN! The word echoed over and over again through Madison’s mind. Screaming and tearing at her insides she obeyed. Her wolf running faster and faster, she was free as she cantered forward. She could not feel anyone following, but she could not feel much as her body burned into a numbness of over working. Muscles and movements consistent, she forced herself faster, she broken through every barrier her body threw her way. Again only one word spearing her motivation, only one thought pushing her to get to her destination. One word whispering through her mind and torturing her body as she crossed boundaries and state lines, “run.” A young warrior swiftly walking into a large office, two identical heads of blonde hair continued looking downward writing. Almost out of breath, the warrior spoke, “Alpha’s… intruder on the Western boarder. A single rogue we think.” Ardon and Caleb looked up from their desks awaiting more information from the young warrior. “Byron’s team is in the vicinity. They are awaiting your orders.” The twin Alpha’s sharing a look of concern, their shoulders squared as they stood in an instant. Caleb speaking up, the stocky male moved to the door followed closely by Ardon. Twin’s and joint Alpha’s of their pack. These two brothers shared everything. They shared their pack, their role and their mate. “We will head out now to meet them. There has been no rogue activity since that coordinated attack last year. Secure all the borders, increase the patrols on the Eastern side.” The last words thrown over his shoulder at the warrior, Caleb raced to the front door with Ardon a mere step behind him. The wind whipping past them as they headed toward the Western boarder, they phased without bothering to remove their clothing. Time of the essence, their paws and claws sunk deeply into the floor as their silver hair stood on end menacingly. Sprinting toward the boarder, the twins both bared their teeth growling and snapping. They were prepared for a fight, prepared for an ambush. The trees and bushes rushing past them, they could feel the close approaching boarder, could smell the scent of their warriors just up ahead. Slowing too a trot, they spotted Byron standing in human form not too far forward. Moving to his side, they too morphed back into human form claiming shorts from a warrior who was stood back from a nearby tree. Byron’s voice leaking out calm and quietly, “it’s heading this way very slowly, scouts say its injured. They know we are here, and they have not changed course. They appear to be completely alone.” His head nodding forward to the bushes in the distance, they suddenly jostled, rustling loudly capturing their attention. A silver wolf crashing to the forest floor in exhaustion, the three stood completely still as a horrific whine coated the air prompting emotions of a heart wrenching nature in each of them. Never having felt like this toward a rogue before, each shook off the sensation. Watching objectively as the muddle of sliver fur dragged itself forward still, their stances grew wider ready for anything. Fur turning to bare flesh. Revealed was Madison, but from what they could see, it was the body of a skinny injured female who her head remaining face down in the dirt. Continuing to pull herself forward, she painted the floor red with blood in her wake as she skidded forward. With no train of thought, and no strength, Madison’s eyes blurred as she felt the change into human form seeping through faltering her eyesight. Her silver fur turning to flesh, the branches scraped harshly at her thin skin, they left thin lines of blood flowing as she moved shakily to her feet. Knees grazing across the rocky ground, Madison managed to lift her head to see blurry figures unmoving and standing just meters from her. Her eyes slightly clearing, and their scent filling her nostrils, all she could feel were the shakes. A cold sweat running down her skin mixed with her blood, she could not bring herself to care. The scent of them was so strong it coat her tongue. In that moment she knew she made it. She knew she was safe. Her best friends voice reaching her ears, it had been so long. “Madi?” Just her name on his lips sent shivers down her spine. Like a drug, the voice soothed at her chest as her body relaxed. Everything shutting down she whispered her words unable to speak even a decimal higher. “Help me Byron.” Even with the blood, the dirt and grime covering her body. Even with over 5 years passing, she was instantly recognizable. The three standing still, they watched as if the world was moving in slow motion. Madison was standing right there before them. They had buried and grieved for her, she was supposed to be gone. She was supposed to be dead, but yet, she was standing right in front of their very eyes. Her voice dry and on the edge of braking, she asked for help as her body ever so slowly began falling forward. The three darting forward at the same time, Ardon got to her first. Taking her in his arms, he instantly broke a vow to his mate, and in that moment he could not care less. “Madi? Madi!” Bryon and Caleb crowding around, they called for help and covered her naked body with whatever was handed their way. Checking for her breath and a heartbeat, a panic set in as they rushed for home. Ardon’s arm cradling her like a precious child, he spoke again desperately. “Madi please be okay, everything is going to be okay.” Sending wolves ahead to prepare the medical unit for their arrival, Byron and Caleb ran in front and behind making sure no soul could put Madi at risk.
