The fall

Mira had been kneeling in the rain for hours. She was the only daughter of the Blackwood family living with her father and two brothers.

Mira lived a life wrapped in silk and protected by steel—the pampered jewel of the Blackwood family.”

But pampering hadn’t meant helplessness. Her father and brothers had made sure she could survive without them if she ever needed to. They’d sent her abroad to further her education, confident she would return even stronger.

On the day she returned, she was attacked by a g**g of thugs, only to be saved by a man, Lucas, whom she later fell in love with.

She dated him for a while before finally telling her family, who wasted no time in standing against it, which warranted her current state.

Her oldest brother, Armani, came out holding an umbrella over her.

"Come inside, Dad wants to talk to you", he said to her before walking back inside with his cold expression.

"So you won't back down? Fine, you can go ahead and do whatever you want. I no longer care, but from now on, until you come to your senses, you are no longer entitled to any of the Blackwood family's assets. Of course, you can take the wealth that has been given to you and acquired by you in the past 25 years. You can only return when you have returned to your senses," Henry Blackwood, her father, roared.

That day, she left the house with her luggage and moved in with Lucas. In just a few weeks, they got married, but little did she know that it was the worst mistake she would ever make.

A relationship that started all rosy and happy soon started to fail. Lucas now stayed out late in the name of work. He had taken over her company while she stayed as a housewife.

What she didn't know was that he had been embezzling company funds.

A year after their marriage, all that remained of the company was a mere skeleton. That was the same year she found out she was pregnant. She rushed to tell her husband, who was anything but happy, but he tried not to show it.

From that day, he tried different ways to abort the child, all to no avail.

When she was two months pregnant, Lucas invited his cousin over to stay with them.

"This is my cousin, Eva, she would help take care of you during your pregnancy", he told her.

Mira was happy that he was thinking about her. Unknown to her, Lucas was just using this as an excuse to bring his 'true love' into his home.

He always spent the night out with her and then blamed it on one family problem or another.

As usual, Mira went for her monthly check-up. She had asked Lucas to come with her, but as usual, he was busy. She took a cab to the hospital and, after waiting for a few minutes, she did her check-up. The results came out, and she was perfectly fine. Her baby also had no complications.

The doctor told her to stay away from stress as it could be harmful to both her and the baby. She also told her that, all things being equal, she would give birth to her child in 2 months.

She left the hospital and stood at the side of the road waiting for her cab to pull up. After standing for a while, a cab finally pulled up.

She entered but felt strange. The man was looking at her weirdly with an evil grin on his face. Soon, they were on the road, and she started feeling drowsy and eventually went unconscious.

When she woke up, she was tied up to a chair with some guys surrounding her.
