Chapter 12

It had been over two weeks since I last saw Jesse. He had made no effort to contact me. I stayed away from him. Though it was killing me inside. It hurt that he was no longer in my life.
I was seeing Mark. And Maggie. I was trying to move on. The best way I knew how. Being with Mark I was not so lonely at least. I had a delima today. Well tonight. Maggie had asked me to attend her school event.
If anything, I was only going to run into Danny Tanner. His girls were in the same school. So more than likely I would not be running into Jesse. He did not attend school events.
It was art night at the school. And Maggie had done a piece that was going to be in the school art show for her age. She was really excited about that to. I was glad she had invited me. She was such a sweet kid.

"Are you really going to the event?" questions Jenelle as we do hair that day.
I nod then smile over at her. "I am. I want to be there to support Maggie"
"Are you not worried about running into Jesse? Or the Tanners?" she asks me.
I sigh. "No, if I run into Danny fine. Jesse was the one to dump me" I remind her. "I am moving on"
"Good for you. Are you really over him?" she wants to know.
"Look I know you mean well but I really do not want to talk about Jesse" I warn her.
"Sore subject. Got it" chuckles Jenelle.

After work I rush home to get freshened up. I dress nice. Jenelle had gotten to my head. All that talk about running into Jesse. I was not going to run into Jesse. Danny would be there.
His girls would be in the art show so Danny would go. Not Jesse. Right? I hoped he would not show. I really was not in the mood to see him. Mark was stopping by to pick me up before heading to the school with Maggie that night.
I had a light snack. Because Mark mentioned that he was going to take us to have dinner some place after the school event. No telling how long the school event was going to go on. So, I made myself a slice of Texas toast with cheese.
I let it simmer in my little toaster oven. And popped open a diet cola. I had a snack as I watched ET on tv. I sipped my cola and scarfed down my toast. After I was done pigging out, I went and brushed my teeth and applied fresh pink lip stick.
I was ready to go!
There was a knock on my door. I answer and there was Mark and Maggie. Mark had a box of candy for me. He smiles then hands it to me. I feel Maggie hug me. I hug her back as I set the box of candy down on the table. I was happy to see them.

"You look beautiful tonight" Mark praises me.
I blush. "Thank you, Mark,"
"I am glad you are going tonight Skyler" brags Maggie. "I can't wait for you to see the art I drew. I am not as good as Stephanie" she sighs.
"Are the Tanner's coming tonight?" I wonder.
"Stephanie is. I think Joey is taking her" Maggie tells me.
I sigh. I was happy to hear that no Jesse was coming.
"Are you okay? I understand if you don't want to come. Because of Jesse" worries Mark softly so Maggie will not hear us.
"I want to come. Maggie invited me. And besides he broke up with me. I can go to this" I promise Mark.
I touch him on the arm then I kiss his cheek. He grins. He looks pleased now. "You look very handsome"
"Thank you" he chuckles as he blushes.
"Let's go! I want to be there early" begs Maggie.
"Alright" laughs Mark.

We head out the door. I get in Mark's car. I am in the front. Maggie is in the backseat. I make sure she has her seatbelt on. I worry about kids. I knew someday I was going to be a mom.
I felt I was meant to be. Kids were always drawn to me for some reason. I really wanted kids of my own. Kids were great. Mark played Radio Disney on the car radio for Maggie. She loved it of course. Then we get to the school. Nervous butterflies scatter inside of me. Would I see Jesse? Was he really here?
I glance around the parking lot to see if his bike was here. But I could not see a single motor bike. Thankfully. He could have rode with the Tanners. I crossed my fingers for luck as I undid my seatbelt. We get out of the car. I follow Mark and Maggie. Kids were running in the building. Excitement was in the air for the art show to start.
I hoped Maggie would get some kind of little prize for her hard work that night. I was sure she would. Mark had opened the car door for me. That was so sweet. And he reaches out taking my hand as we walk in the school then Maggie takes my other hand leading me into the school.
I felt proud to be with them.
We enter the building. A sea of kids were running about. Maggie leads us to the gym were the art was all set up at. We check in. We are given name tags. We look around and find Maggie's art. She had drawn their home. She did really well with watercolors. I loved her little drawing.

"Wow Maggie you did fantastic" Mark brags on her.
They hug.
"Thank you, dad you think so?" she asks him.
He kisses the top of her head. "I know so. You really captured our beloved home" he brags.
"Thanks" she giggles.
"Maggie you made the colors burst" I tell her. "I love it" I promise her.
Maggie beams a happy smile at me.
"I want a snack" Maggie tells her dad. "they have cookies" she begs him.
"Want a snack?" asks Mark to me.
"Sure" I agree.
"Wait here. We will be right back" he offers.
I glance over at the art work. Then I feel a tap on my shoulder.

"Hi there Skyler" says someone.
I turn around to see Stephanie.
"Steph hi" I greet her.
She hugs me. "How are you these days?" she asks me.
"Good and you Tanners?" I ask her.
"I am great" she answers me.
"Great!" I say.
"Skyler hi" greets Joey.
We shake hands.
"It is good to see you guys" I say.
"You to" says Joey.
"Are you hear for Maggie?" asks Stephanie.
I nod. "Yes, she invited me here tonight" I tell her.
"She told me you were coming tonight. I was hoping to see you" says Stephanie. "we have missed hanging out with you" admits Stephanie.
"I miss you guys to" I softly say. Joey smiles at me.
"DJ, I think Steph's piece is over here" says someone. I knew this someone. I wince as my heart races.
"Skyler?"
"Jess!" I answer.
"Hi" he greets me with a smile.
"Hi" I reply back.
"What are you doing here? Are you here for Steph?" he wonders.
"I got you some punch and all they had left were oatmeal cookies" Mark tells me as he comes back over. He hands me a drink.
"Ah no. I am here with Mark and Maggie. Maggie invited me here" I answer Jesse.
Mark looks bewildered.
"Hi Jesse" he greets him. They shake hands.

Jesse looked fantastic. His hair was coming back in from the last time I trimmed it up. He was wearing his signature dark black tee shirt and his tight blue jeans.
Biker boots and his cross necklace hung around his neck. Tears wanted to fall. I missed him. This on again off again things on his terms was never good for me. Mark was better for me. Mark treated me ten times better.
Why was I still hung up on Jesse?
"We came tonight because Danny had to cover a story tonight" Joey tells us.
I nod. "That is great you guys are supporting Steph" I tell them.
Jesse smiles. Then nods as he crosses his arms.
"How have you been these days Skyler?" wonders Jesse.
"I am doing well. I have been dating Mark. And I love hanging out with him and Maggie. Things are great. I can't complain" I lie.
He nods. Mark smiles.

"Over here is my work guys" Stephanie suddenly says. "I found it!"
They all move away from us. And I feel Jesse glance back at me. I look away from his gaze. My heart aches inside. Mark places an arm around my shoulder.
"Are you okay? We can leave as soon as this is over" he offers.
"Thanks. I will be fine" I whisper.
Mark kisses me on the cheek. When I look over, I see Jesse still gazing in my direction.
Watching me.
What did he care??
He dumped me!
Soon came the awards. And Maggie was offered second place prize. Then Steph got first place. I was proud of both girls. Jesse and Joey were cheering for Stephanie and Maggie. I cheered for them to.

"Congrats Maggie. I am so thrilled for you" a woman with long blond hair says coming up to us. She had a little boy that was Maggie's age. "Ben tell Maggie congrats"
"Congrats!" Ben mimics' and makes a face.
Maggie makes a face back.
"Kids" laughs the lady. "Mark who is your new lady friend?" asks the woman.
"This is my date. This is Skyler" says Mark.
I shake hands with the woman.
"I am Dina. I am good friends with Mark. I am so happy he has finally moved on since that awful divorce" she praises him. "Good for you Mark"
"Thanks Dina" he says.
She and Ben wander away.
"She had asked me out a few times when I first got divorced. But I found then I was not ready to date" Mark explains.
"Oh, so she is still into you then?" I ask him.
"Seems that way" he laughs. "But I am not into her. I am into you" he promises me.
"Mark you are sweet" I giggle.
After the event was over, we head out. We stop by McDonald's for dinner. We get Maggie a happy meal. Mark and I share a double cheeseburger meal. You got two of them and a large fry. In all besides running into Jesse I had fun. I could have not run into Jesse.
But it happened.
