Dreams

"Noooo!" I screamed. The woman before me slumped to the ground, and I knew she was poisoned, and I had no idea why. All I know is I feel it as I'm being dragged away from the scene, and I don't know how much I can take. The woman lying on the ground, I do not recognize, but I have some familiar feeling of her within my body. It's almost like its blurry watching her, like a film over my eyes. I cannot see what she looks like, I just know she is there. I try my best to get a good look, but all I see is a cloudy figure laying there, unmoving. I feel scared for my life, and I don't know where the feeling comes from. I feel a bunch of figures around me, almost like they're closing in. My surroundings aren't ringing a bell to me, I just feel more scared than I have ever been, deep down in my bones. I see lights from a distance, and balloons, although I cannot make out the color, and it seems to be some kind of party. Before I get a chance to really look around, I see another woman coming full speed at me, and all I can do is scream, but nothing comes out. I cannot make out her face, all I hear is someone yelling for me to run, but I look around and there's no face to put the voice to. I feel someone grab me, and that's when everything goes black. I wake up to scream in a panic, but someone covers my mouth. "Karielle, its just me, Hera. Are you okay? are you hurt?" She checks me over in worry, but all I feel is cold sweats. "I just came earlier than you're used to I'm sure, to bring your breakfast you know, I wanted to see you personally and make sure you eat this morning. What was that about?" Hera says to me, and I hesitate on how to answer her. This dream is a first for me, but it frightened me more than anything, because I don't know where it came from or what it could mean. "It was nothing, just a bad dream is all." I tell her, hoping she wouldn't question me further. I don't know how to explain it, or what I could tell her, as I don't even understand it myself. It's like I'm in someone else's body, seeing things through their eyes. "I brought you eggs. pancakes, sausage, and hash browns. I figured you could use a big breakfast, I know you won't get much otherwise." Hera explains. She's right, I would never get any kind of breakfast or food at all in my position, let alone a stealthy one to fill me up. I thank Hera and get started on the eggs, I haven't had anything this good in as long as I can remember. "I didn't know you could cook, Hera, this is so good! Thank you so much!" Hera was a sweet girl, but I didn't know she had such talents. "Oh it's no big deal, my mom has taught me since I was little for when I meet my mate and have to care for him and any children we have one day." Hera says while blushing. I know she can't wait to meet her mate just as impatiently as I am to meet mine. We can't wait to get out of this dreaded pack. A lot of members don't know what really goes on behind the scenes, and honestly, neither of us could care less because we both plan to leave someday, and never look back. By the time Hera leaves, one of the omegas, Ashlyn, came to my room. "Hey Kari, time to get up, the Luna is not in the greatest mood this morning and it'll be best if you're early, so she cannot say you're late. She's looking for you as we speak!" I rush up, wearing the same clothes I wore yesterday, and head down to the kitchen. I only have 2 outfits here, and they are hand-me-downs from other lowdown pack members, thats what the Luna tells me anyways. She looks at anyone of lower blood status than her as below her. It's not right, but hey it is what it is, nothing I can do to change the way her mind works. Luna Margaret has never had to live below her means in her life, as one can tell, by the way she treats others. She acts like such a sweet Luna in front of the higher ups, and other packs, but I see through her facade, as I'm sure the others she treats like crap do as well. Here, the Midnight pack members are terrified of the Luna. They are able to live their normal lives daily, but will come to regret any mistakes they make or not abiding by what the leaders say. Margaret's punishments are harsh, and she hardly ever gives second chances. One time, an omega from the kitchen brought a guest of the Luna's a Rare steak, as she asked for. Once she brought it to the table, the guest decided she wanted medium rare, and because the omega couldn't read her mind, she was then humiliated, and banished from the pack. When the King and Queen received the banishment report, it stated that she had stolen from a guest of the pack, and the Council approved, even though that information was false. I'm positive the King and Queen, nor their council know about me, and if they do I know it'll be a fake report. As I've said before, the pack members who have witnessed my presence, were told I'm a type of exchange student, learning to be a servant to work for my pack back home *eyeroll*. I've been hidden pretty well, other than the raunchy pack members who I'm sure are in cahoots, there is nothing for them to worry about. After Ashlyn came in to hurry me out, I rushed down to the kitchen to find the Luna, and to say she's mad is an understatement She was sizzling. "Hey Luna, I'm sorry I came as fast as I coul.." A loud smack sounded, and it took me a minute to realize the blow had hit me, as I felt the first drip of warm liquid going from my lip down my chin. "You little winch, no one gave you the right to speak before being spoken to, now get your ass to work you abomination!" Luna Margaret screamed at me, and I ran to the pack kitchen to get started, but my hands were trembling so bad I couldn't get a good grip on the glass pan I had pulled out to prepare. I dropped it and it shattered, cutting the top of my foot in the process. s**t, I know I'm screwed now. The luna takes a hold of my throat, and I feel the wind leave my lungs. "You think it's okay to drop blood on my floor! Disgusting!, Guards!" She let go, and I dropped to my knees on the floor, holding my neck as I feel the bruising already starting to take place. There is no sorry or treatment for me, I prepare myself to be taken to the cells for the day, as I know that is why shes handing me off to the guard. I'll be chained without food or water again, and I for the life of me cannot understand why she wants me so weak if she expects me to do all the things she asks of me, and whatever use she has for me. There's only one guard, He has a hood on so I cannot make out his face, which I guess is a good thing for him. He has my hands cuffed behind my back while we're walking through the corridor to get to the cells, he pushes me forward and I stumble but catch myself from falling. We arrive at the narrow wall, its navy blue in color, just like the rest of the walls in this place. I guess they have to match the paint with the darkness of their souls, and the name of the pack is definitely fitting. There is a hidden door in the wall that opens with the push of a button, although you can't see it just by looking. At just one touch, the door pops open. The smell of burnt flesh, blood and infection fills my senses, and we start to walk down the dreaded moldy stairs to the unforgiving prisoner cells. Once we reach the bottom, we come to a stop. I try to turn my head to infer about what the issue is, and a hand is placed over my mouth so I can't scream. He slowly takes off his hood to reveal himself to me. "Karielle. You have to keep quiet, so no attention is drawn to us. If I let my hand off of your mouth, do you promise to keep quiet?" I nod my head frantically, and he finally lets go of me. My eyes widen as I see who it is under the hood, and I feel I could pass out at any moment. "Emile, what are you doing here? Did you come to make me suffer more at the advice of your mother?" I whisper brokenly to him, not like he cares what happens to me. I see a sad glint in his eye, and it confuses me more than anything. "No, Kari. I am here to help you, if you're willing to trust me? I know it's hard because of what I have let myself be involved in, but it is not the way it seems. I have been keeping a secret too." My mouth drops, and I can't help but be curious to what more he has to tell.
