The Scroll

KARIELLE As I lie here on this cold concrete floor, my wrists and feet still chained, I just can't help but think of all the new information that I just learned. I still can't believe it. Luna Margaret has been lying to me this whole time, and preying on my feelings all along. I'm not her daughter, nor have I ever been. Im hurt and relieved at the same time. What could make anyone go as far as to make up something this heartless? all to control me and keep me under her hand, but the answer to why still remains. What did I do so wrong for my life to be this way? tortured, lonely and forgotten. Lied to and beaten down emotionally. Am I not good enough to atleast be a good thing to someone? Anyone? I could curse the Moon Goddess for allowing this to happen to me, my heart is broken and I just feel like an empty shell at times. She's supposed to be there for her children, but I have yet to be blessed with her presence, and I'm not so sure that blessed is the word I want to use, because it's looking more like a curse to me. At least there is one good thing that comes from this, I didn't come from that monster's womb, and I have Emile to thank for that. Speaking of Emile, I'm shocked at what he did for me. Not only did he make sure I had a friend behind his mother's back to make sure I'm eating and have someone to talk to, he's willingly telling me his secrets and actually trying to find a way to stop this evil woman, and helping me in the process, even with it being his own mother. I don't know if I can fully trust Emile yet, but I'm working on forgiveneness. Now that he told me the story behind his actions, it makes it a little easier for me even though I can never erase the pain that I endured, I'll have to get over it one day. I just hope I don't have to continue going through it for his mother's selfish desires. Lost in my thoughts, I suddenly hear the door at the top of the steps pop open, and in comes the person I have been waiting for. "Karielle! I couldn't wait to get down here to you. Sorry it took me a little longer than I expected, the guards around here aren't easy to get around. I was able to find a sleeping spell for them, so it's safe to say they won't be up for a few hours, they may also have a broken tooth or 2? I'm not sure. Also, look what I have!" Hera says with a devious smile, while shaking the keys to my cell and chains in her hand. This woman is going to be the death of me one day, I can already imagine it now. "Hera! Oh my goodness, you did what?" I question her in a joking manner. I really don't care what happens to the guards, they're apart of the problem just as much as the Luna. "Come on get up, we only have a limited amount of time to go see what we can find! I even was able to get the key for Luna Margarets chambers!" Hera yelled for me to hurry, and I can see why Emile trusts this woman and made her my friend. She may be a crazy lunatic, but hey, I've come to love her just as much, she's obviously a great friend to have around. I jump up and head out of the cell room, arm in arm with Hera. We race up the stairs and through the door, gently closing it back to the wall behind us. We keep as quiet as we can, just incase there's any bustling packmembers around, but at this time of night, everyone should be in bed. I'm starting to think it was a good idea for the Luna to keep me a secret from mostly everyone, it helps our cause that much more as long as no one else finds out about me. We make a sharp left to the first set of stairs that leads to the upper floors. With the Luna and Alpha gone along with their beta, we should be able to get in and out. We have Emile to warn us just incase, he didn't tell us how, just said that we would know as soon as we needed to if there were any worries. We make it to the first corridor to the right of the 2nd flight of the navy and silver marbled staircase, and we finally see the chambers we are looking for. We see a steel door with a lock on the front, with the titanium letters C&D engraved on the front. "That's it Kari! Lets go." We run straight ahead to make it there as quickly and quietly as we can. Hera fidgets with the keys for a few minutes, and on the 4th time of trying, we hear it turn inside and then a click, we made it in! "Ready Karielle?" Hera states nervously, but she has to shake it off, this may be our chance for answers. We have to get in and out, so I hope we can find something of substance. Hera pushes the door open to reveal the master bedroom, A huge double king sized bed with white and navy blankets sits against the wall at the front of the room, a large silver colored chandelier hangs in the middle of the room, and theres a wooden research nook attatched to the farthest wall in front of us. "Lets start there!" I say, pointing to the laptop that sits closed on the desk of the nook. We both walk over, and Hera opens it. "s**t, theres a password. Damn it! what do we do now?" Well there goes that plan, we have to find a way to get into that laptop, but that's something we will have to leave up to Emile, as I don't have much time before the guards start to wake back up. "We keep looking, go look under the bed and in the nightstands next to the bed, maybe you'll find something in there." I tell her, and she hurries over to begin checking through the drawers. I on the other hand, walk over to the mantle that sits atop the enclosed fireplace on the left side of the bed. Theres some kind of wooden box sitting all by itself, right in the middle of the overlay. I go to grab it when I feel a burning sensation and drop it straight to the floor. Hera notices my discomfort, and runs over to me. "Are you alright? what happened and what is that?" She asks while pointing to the box and grabbing my hand to check for marks, but there was nothing there. "That box burned me and I dropped it, I don't understand." I say. and Hera reaches to grab the weird wooden box. It didn't burn her though, which left us both looking at eachother confused. "Open it, theres gotta be a reason it did that to me." I said referring to my hand getting burned just a second ago. "There's some type of button here, but theres an engraving with some kind of symbol here." Hera points to show me. She tries to push the button for it to open and nothing happens."Try it Kari, Maybe it'll work for you." Hera hands me the box, and I run my finger along the symbol which looks like the shape of the moon with a sword ran through it, and a word written in a language I don't understand. After tracing the whole of the moon and sword as well as the funny looking word, I press the button that connects the top to the bottom of the box, and to my surprise, the lid pops straight open. "Wow, Did not expect that one." Karielle laughs, and they both look to see what is inside. "What is it?" Karielle asks while looking at the only item contained inside. "It looks to be some sort of scroll, hurry unroll it so we can see what's on it." And I do as Hera tells me to. "It looks like some sort of map, wonder what it could be?" I ask Hera, and as I start to look closer, there are words written within the map. "It says something about some sort of fancy yellow stone." Hera gasps right as the last words came out of my mouth, and asks me to show her where I see the words. I point right in the center of the map "There's nothing there for me Kari, but apparently you can see it and I can't, so that has to mean something. Have you heard about the fancy yellow stone? This is big!" I'm confused by Hera's words, as I don't remember ever hearing of anything relating to a yellow stone. "What?! You mean to tell me you don't know about the war between the Bloodstar pack and the witch adn her coven?! Everyone knows about the war." "Well apparently not everyone, so enlighten me." I say with sarcasm in reply to Hera, I'm always the last to know about anything around here. "About 15 years ago, there was a witch named Sasha who went to the castle of the King and Queen, looking to confiscate this stone. It's said that only one person will be able to wield it, but she thought she was going to get it anyway. Her goal was to take over the whole realm, and promised better for her witch sisters and brothers. She waged a war with the most powerful pack in the realm, and lost her life. That was the last time anyone has ever tried taking it out of fear for their life, as I said, it's only meant for one person as everyone has been told, and it definitely wasn't her. The King, along with his Queen and his Army defeated Sasha and her coven, but before they could give her the final blow, the stone started emitting a blinding light. The light is said to have taken her life and turned her to ash, the force of it blowing everyone else within its vicinity a half mile away. This must be the map to the stone! There's a reason the Luna is keeping it, and I hope it's not to make the same stupid mistake" Hera finishes her explanation, and I'm left stunned. If the stone killed Sasha, it'll kill Margaret too, or maybe worse, wipe out the whole realm. "If it's that powerful, we have to keep this from getting into the wrong hands. Hera, do you think you can safeguard it without anyone finding out?" I ask, and she hesitates, but nods her head anyway. I hand her the box and we put everything back the way it was and head back to the door leading to the corridor, and gently close it until we hear the click of the lock. We head through the packhouse until we make it back to the door in the wall, once it opens we go back down the musty stairwell and back to the cell room. Hera puts my chains back on me the way they were before we went on our sneaky escapade, and locks my cell door. "I have to put these keys back on the guard, and I'll sneak back to bring you something to eat and a bottle of water. I'm sure you'll be down here until Emile and his parents get back tomorrow, and I'm in charge of taking care of you until then. I know he told you everything, he told me he was going to." And with that Hera left. I hear a commotion at the stairs, and I can't help but think Hera is in trouble.
