Reflection of Myself

1897 Words
KARIELLE Laverne looks at me, as if she has no words to say. I felt awkward, thinking I'm putting her in a spot she can't allow herself to be in. "Laverne, is there anything else you can help us with, if you can't help us form a plan?" I ask her. She sighs and looks down, before looking back up to me to answer me. "Well dear, the plan is already in motion as we speak." She smiles. "However, it is not my place to interfere. I can only ensure the right paths cross." She says curtly. "What's that supposed to mean?" Daxton questions as he's staring at her intently. "Boy, there's no room to question my actions. I'm helping you because it's the right thing. I can only do what I can do, and you've gotten that from me so far." She replies, Daxton not quite ready to let go, but he seals his lips for the sake of not turning this into an argument. "Hera, what did you mean earlier, when you said that I could be the one you guys would need protection from?" I was nervous in asking her that, as I'm not sure what to expect. She looks at me, shaking her head. "You found your mate, Kari, which means... Kari, it's happpening again!" Hera started, before everyone looked at me as if I was some foreign person. "What's up with your hair?" Daxton looks to me, not knowing what he means, I ask Laverne if she has a bathroom, I want to go check in the mirror to see what's so different, as their eyes have expressed a change. Not again, I think to myself. "Down the hall, and to the left." she says pointing her finger, and I rush to find my way. I hurrily to come to the door I find myself standing in front of, hesitating to open it, afraid of what I might see. It's alright, it's not that bad Akara assures me. I muck up the courage to open the door, and turn on the light. My head facing down for a minute, I finally decide to look up to the reflection in the mirror. Standing before me, is a woman of strength and nobility. She looks so different compared to the fragile, skinny and terrified woman I witnessed all those months ago. Her hair is no longer purple at the moment, slowly inching its silver color to the roots in my bangs. The Moon Akara speaks. What about the moon? I ask her within my mind, and she tells me to look at myself in the mirror, like to really take all of myself in. "Why are there so many changes happening to me?" I question Akara, her not answering me immediately. That hair, Karielle, is the sign of you having a direct relationship with the moon. You're getting stronger. She replies, out of reach of my understanding. You're important, Kari. Why do you think you have all these people in your corner? I understand her reasoning, as I would have never had the priveleges I have now before that wench Margaret left. "But what's so important about me? I ask her, and she tells me I need alone time with my mate after what's going to happen. Before I have a chance to question her, I hear the commotion of something happening in the living room. I panic, thinking something is wrong. I force myself to look away from the woman in the mirror, dragging myself back to the living room where everyone else was sitting. When I get back there, I notice a strange man talking to Laverne, everyone else eyeing him curiously. "What's the matter?" I ask, after standing there for a couple minutes before anyone noticed my presence. The unknown man who just walked in, seemed to be in a silent argument with the white witch, no one saying a word. "Karielle, I'd like you to meet Vlademir." Laverne introduces me, giving me a stern look. "Hello, Vlademir." I indulge, waiting for someone to explain. "Karielle, there's alot we need to tell you. Remember when I said you needed to follow what I tell you? This is where it begins." She smiles, and this is no reason to be happy. My inner turmoil is just churning, everything around me seeming to have something to do with me, however I always feel like I'm the one in the dark. "Can someone just please tell me what the f**k is going on? This is my life and I deserve to know!" I snap, everyone seemingly surprised at my outburst. I know I've been pretty cooperative ever since meeting this woman, but it's time that I stop being a pushover. I'm tired of not knowing what's going to come from one day to the next. "Karielle, you will need this man in your journey." Hera nonchalantly says, and I look to her with my brows furrowed, not understanding how she would know more about my life than myself, but considering my history, I'm not surprised. "Can someone just tell me the damn truth?! I feel like there has been so much hidden, and I'm tired of it." I stomp, the ground shaking, matching the way I feel inside. Daxton was surprised at what I had just done, and I know he isn't aware of all of the things that have been going on with me lately, we have just met recenly after all. Laverne and the new man, Vlademir, look to eachother before he decides to speak up. "I have a couple people I would like you to meet. Karielle, have you heard of the King and Queen?" He asks, and I nod my head. Everyone has heard of the, they do rule the wolves in this part of the realm. "What about the King and Queen?" Daxton butts in, knowing he wouldn't just let me handle this, freaking males and their non compliance, always wanting concern themselves with matters unbeknownst to them. "Daxton, Karielle's mate I presume, you may want to come with her." Vlademir says to Daxton, his eyes turning to slants, not appreciating this being leaving out the real meaning of this. "You will not deter my mate, whatever it is, you can say the real aspect of it right here and now." Daxton demands, and Vlademir puts his hands up. "I don't want any trouble, bud, I'm only here to help your mate. You're going to want to see this through, being she is your mate and you will be her main source of comfort." Vlademir relays, and Daxton backs off a bit. "I need to take you to them. I wish I could have sooner, but you will thank me none the less. They are awaiting your presence." Vlademir insists, and I look to Daxton, him nodding his head. "Don't worry love, I'll be with you every step of the way." He comforts me, and it makes me feel a little better, although I'm quite nervous to see what's behind this. "You'll be happy you did, Kari." Hera adds, Laverne smiling and nodding her head at Hera's words. "I'll be here when you decide to come back." Hera says, Laverne looking to her with welcome. She is the one who had saved Hera so I think it's best she stays here where she can be safe. "Do you mind?" Vlademir asks, holding his hand out for me to put mine in his. Daxton growls at us touching hands, and I roll my eyes at him. Vlademir walks me out of Laverne's door, before laying on the ground like a statue. "What the hell are you doing?" I laugh, Daxton staring at him with malice. I punch Daxton in the shoulder, as to tell him not to be mean. "Hop on." He says to me and Dax, and I know he can't be serious. He thinks we're going to climb on his back? Where's a car when ya need it?! I giggle. "What are you?" Daxton asks him, and he quickly goes over his genes, Daxton's eyes going wide at what he had stated. "That's impossible, I've heard there are no mixed species in the realm to date. How could you be one?" Daxton asks him, and he shrugs his shoulders. "I survived." He smirks, before urging Daxton and I to climb on his back. I throw my leg over his side, straddling his back, Daxton moving to do the same directly behind me. Dax reaches for my hand, as if holding it for comfort. Suddenly, Vlademir spreads his huge black wings before quickly lifting us into the air, telling us to hold on tight. I squeeze Daxton's hand tighter, terrified of flying as it was unexpected and I've never done it before. I look to the night sky, the stars shining brightly, leaving multiple twinkles of diamonds as we pass by. The moon, full in all it's glory tonight, so pure and bright. I was Gazing at the sky, leaning my back against Daxton, realizing that I enjoy this more than I thought I would. I lean back against his chest, not being able to stay there as we approached a humongous castle, it's lighting brightening up the vision of it's beauty right before us. We inch closer to the Castle ground before landing, a maid rushing out to greet us. "Hello, sir vampire wolf, their majesties await you in the Queen's office." She bows, waiting for us all to stand and follow her. We jump off of Vlademir's back, allowing him to stand and walk beside us. That seemed to go by way too quickly, I loved the ride as I've never flown before or known what it's like just to witness the stars and moon in person other than through a window. Daxton noticing my sadness, grabs ahold of my hand once more, as if to let me know he's here when I need him. We follow the maid into a corridor before walking up a flight of stairs, the castle beautifully decorated. There was a diamond sparkling chandelier hanging right before the stairwell, marble steps so shiny and elegant with a banister that you only see in movies. I silently tell myself I would love a tour of this place. I've never seen a castle before, let alone being able to grace it's presence. "Right this way." the maid speaks, leading us to a closed door on the right side of the corridor we turned into at the top of the steps. Right then is when my heart began thumping so intermittently, I had a second thought to turn around and leave. I'm no longer that Karielle though, ready to face whatever comes my way head on. Vlademir knocks on the door, a man coming to greet us. He looks to Vlad, and then turns to me and Daxton with a confused expression, tears in his eyes when he looks directly at me. He stays there for a few seconds, before he steps out of the way to open the door wider, revealing two women sitting on a bench, tears also streaming down their eyes at the sight of me. "It's really you! Oh my god, My baby!" The first woman shouts, startling me as I feel like I'm looking at a reflection of myself. "Mom?!"
