Chapter One – Who Am I?
Clink. The sound of champagne glasses echoed through the luxurious bar. Music filled the air while laughter and conversations blended into the night. A woman, whose face was hidden beneath a black hat, sat alone at the counter. She quietly raised another glass of champagne. A voice suddenly interrupted her silence. “Isn’t it strange that I see you here every single day?” Dasom slowly turned toward the woman with a calm, unreadable expression. “And isn’t it just as strange that I see you here every day too?” she replied with a faint smirk. “I didn’t think someone like you had that much free time.” The woman clenched her jaw. Without saying another word, she stormed away, whispering to herself through gritted teeth. “Who is she…? I need to know who she is!” ⸻ One glass became two. Two became five. Before anyone noticed, the night had come to an end. The customers slowly left the bar one after another, but the mysterious woman in the black cap remained sitting in the same place. No one disturbed her. Loneliness surrounded her like an invisible wall. Eventually… She fell asleep. ⸻ The next morning… Dasom slowly opened her eyes and looked around in confusion. “…What am I doing here?” She pressed a hand against her forehead. “I seriously drank way too much last night…” She looked at the bartender, speaking to him as if they had known each other for years. “You really left me here all night?” The bartender laughed. “I didn’t exactly tell you to sleep here.” He shrugged. “Besides… this place is practically your second home. Where was I supposed to take you? I don’t even know where you live.” ⸻ Before we continue… You should probably know who she is. Kim Dasom. One of Korea’s biggest celebrities. Although she was born into a Korean family, she had spent almost her entire life in London. She was famous. Loved by millions. Beautiful without trying. Elegant without pretending. She had a natural charisma that made everyone notice her the moment she entered a room. Yet… She rarely let anyone get close. She always kept an invisible line between herself and everyone else. Maybe… Because she believed that if someone crossed that line… Something inside her would break. Still, despite the cold distance she kept from people, there was something about her that made everyone like her. ⸻ The bartender interrupted her thoughts. “Come on, Dasom. You need to leave. We have to clean up before opening.” Dasom stretched lazily. “Fine… Call my driver.” “I’ve got a photoshoot in exactly two hours.” A few minutes later, her driver arrived and took her home. ⸻ As soon as Dasom entered her apartment, she tossed her bag onto the sofa. “Alexa… lights on.” The apartment immediately lit up. “Welcome home, Dasom,” Alexa replied cheerfully. “I missed you. By the way… you weren’t supposed to stay out last night. I was starting to worry.” Dasom chuckled sarcastically. “And if I had told you?” “Were you planning to come party with me?” Alexa answered dramatically, “If you invited me… I would’ve tried.” Dasom couldn’t help smiling. “Very funny.” “Prepare my bath… and tell me today’s schedule.” Alexa immediately began listing every appointment, meeting, and photoshoot planned for the day while preparing the bathroom. After taking a quick shower, Dasom walked into her enormous dressing room. It looked less like a closet… …and more like a luxury boutique. “Alexa,” she called. “What should I wear today?” “I’ve already picked a few trending outfits for you.” “Choose whichever one you like.” Within minutes, Dasom was fully dressed. Designer clothes. Luxury handbag. Perfect accessories. Her driver was already waiting downstairs. ⸻ The moment she got into the car, her driver smiled. “So…” “Ready for another day full of success?” Dasom looked out the window. “I’m ready for another day full of dollars.” That was Dasom. To everyone else, she looked like someone who cared about nothing except making money, buying expensive things, and living a glamorous life. Her driver’s name was Dijir, but she always called him Di. Di laughed. “I really hope one day you’ll find something you love more than money.” Dasom answered without even looking at him. “Then maybe you should find another job.” Di immediately raised both hands. “Okay, okay… I’m putting the location on the GPS, boss.” ⸻ The photoshoot lasted almost the entire day. It was exhausting. As soon as she got back into the car, her phone vibrated. A message from an unknown number. If you really want to know who you are… come back to Korea. Dasom stared at the screen. Her heartbeat slowed. Then quickened. Who was this? Was it a prank? Or… Did someone actually know something about her past? For years, there had always been a strange emptiness inside her. A feeling that something was missing. Without thinking twice… She made a decision. “Di.” “Book two tickets to Korea.” Di almost slammed on the brakes. “Two tickets?” “Wait… Korea?” “Why am I going with you?” “I can barely speak Korean!” Dasom simply looked out the window. “I wasn’t asking.” “I was telling you.” The next morning… Without knowing whether the mysterious message was real… They boarded a flight to Korea. Neither of them knew… That this trip was about to change everything. To be continued…
