CHAPTER 14 POV Johnathan "There's a rouge in the woods by the south end of the pack" house I heard my beta Milo say over the link "three of the border patrol are on it now" I sighed and sat back in my chair. My dad had passed down some of the alpha duties already. I was going through so much paperwork. He of course gave me the travel requests to do today. So just reading a bunch of papers from pack members of both our pack and other packs on where they are traveling and why. "Elizabeth is in the woods, the rogue is with her! She seems unhurt" I heard Milo say "WHAT?! WHY IS SHE IN THE WOODS?! GIVE ME YOUR LOCATION NOW!" I got up quickly and opened my balcony door and jumped off of it. It was quicker than going down the three flights of stairs. Milo told me they were by the creeks waterfall and I sprinted there as fast as I could. I slowed down just before the clearing. I entered it and saw her standing there, looking perfect in the clearing. She was standing over the rogue. The stench of rouge hit me, rotting flesh….and burning flesh? "Get the rogue out of here" I snapped through the mind link. I went over to her and grabbed her by the arms. I looked her over, every inch of her that I could see. I didn't see any scrapes or bruises "Are you ok? What happened?" I asked trying to mask the worry in my voice. "I came out to the woods for lunch, I followed the sound of the river. I sat down and was eating when the rogue appeared. He growled at me and I warned him off, then he charged at me. So I defended myself. He didn't get close to me." She said quickly. I couldn't believe she'd just be out here all alone! These woods are dangerous…. But I guess it's ok if she wasn't hurt…. I looked at the lunch she had laid out. It looked delicious and I was hungry. I went over and sat down hoping she would join me. She sat down next to me as I grabbed a sandwich. It was delicious. I ate slowly as I thought about how to talk to her about not coming out here alone anymore. The silence was comfortable. I was really starting to like her presence. "I'm glad you're ok. When they told me you had been attacked by a rogue I feared the worst…." I said quietly. "I'm not weak and defenseless, you know. Or maybe you don't know. It's not like you've even looked at me since I got here. It's not like this is what I wanted you know. I was supposed to be high priestess. I have been training my whole life. I'm my mothers first daughter. I thought my whole life that on my 18th birthday they'd tell me my mate, I'd find him and then take my place leading my people. But instead, 10 months before that is supposed to happen I'm told I'm being traded to end the war. Sent off to marry and be a wife of a leader instead of actually ruling. But I'm trying to look on the bright side. I'm trying to be positive. But you haven't even looked at me." She spoke so suddenly I was shocked. Her words seemed to come out of her with force. I sat and listened to her in awe. She really was beautiful and so strong. But what did she mean about not looking at her? "I have looked at you." I said, almost to myself. "It's not that you're not beautiful. Your hair is golden in the sun and falls flawlessly. Your eyes are deep and endless. They hold the universe. You're beautiful. But you're not my mate. I'm mad that my father would set this up even though he knows that. I don't want you to be disappointed when I meet her and you have to leave." "You know who your mate is?' she asked. "No but I'm sure I'll meet her soon." I said, did she really think I'd be here at all of I had? "Have you asked to see your books?" She said, confusing me. "Books?" I was so confused with her I looked at her, which was almost a mistake. I had a sudden urge to plant a kiss on those perfect lips, almost pursed into a pout. She really was gorgeous…. "Yeah, where the oracles write down all the mate matches when they are told of them. You're 18 so you can just go ask for your match." She said, so matter of factly. Strange, to have all the matches wrote down. Do they not feel it in their soul when they meet their match? "We don't have that here. You just… feel it when you meet." I said. "Oh…. But what if they don't live near? Wouldn't that mean you may never actually meet your match?" She said this so sadly, I needed to reassure her. "Some people never do, but most will. The moon goddess makes sure we eventually cross paths with our mate." I said, trying to smile I didn't want her to worry, or worse pity for me. She just looked at me and gave a small smile, her eyes glittering…. We sat there not talking for what just felt like seconds before she looked at her watch. "Well it's time for me to head back. I've got something at one." She said quietly getting up and collecting the containers. I helped and reassured her I could deal with them, I didn't want her to go, but I didn't want to get her hopes up, but I needed to see her again. "Hey, as long as you know that once I find my mate we are done, I don't mind hanging out a bit more? Maybe get to know you a bit better?" "That sounds nice." She said, and gave a genuine smile. It lit up her whole face. I would do anything to see that again. "How about we do something on Saturday?" I asked, "I can get you out of all the classes my mom wants you do to. Don't worry about that." "Saturday it is then." She said "I've gotta run, I'll see you later." I watched as she walked out of the clearing. I sat down and looked at the river. I really shouldn't give her hope. We won't end up together. But I couldn't help but to be interested. She is the first witch I've met after all. And we might as well make the best of this whole thing before its over. I got up and grabbed the containers and headed back to the pack house. I dropped them off in the kitchen and the head omega gave me a look. She was really sweet, Ashlyn had almost helped to raise me. I quickly avoided her gaze and walked away, not wanting to talk about it. I meandered the halls of the pack house for a bit. After what felt like forever I found myself at her door….. before I knew what I was doing I reached up and knocked. After what felt like a year she opened the door. She looked surprised to see me…. I stepped towards her, grabbed her close and kissed her with everything I had in me.
