CHAPTER 16 POV: Elizabeth The next few days went really fast. I had been doing very well in my sparring class. We hadn't practiced with magic yet. But I had yet to lose a match. Johnathan had been mysteriously missing from classes and meals. The Luna said I needed to begin eating meals in the cafeteria with everyone else to build a relationship with them. My Luna studies were coming along great! I knew all of the pack's most important members' names, families, and jobs. I had begun to help the Luna plan the fall festivals. There were so many things to plan for the week-long celebration! It was the week before Halloween with the last day of the festival on Halloween. There would be a carnival, rides, food, games, and a huge dance on the last night. My studies with the Omega Ashlyn were going along very well too, we had explored the whole pack house and grounds and we're ready to move onto the small town square next week. Milo had been very gracious in his teaching me of wolves and their ways. Witches were only really taught how to fight a wolf, nothing about their people. I learned that when Johnathan takes over he will appoint new betas and gammas. Basically all the positions in the pack other than elder rotates down a generation. They did this to ensure the main protectors of the pack were always the young and strong. Usually those go from family to family. But it is possible for the alpha gene, or any other one, to be born to someone not of the family before. Milo didn't have a son, and the beta hadn't shown himself yet. It could be anyone in the pack. His mate would have the beta gene too, they would share responsibilities. Sometimes the beta woman would be more in charge of things, sometimes the man. It depended on each of their personalities and strengths. As for physical training Milo had been really pushing me. I thought I was in great shape but he proved to me I wasn't nearly as well off as I thought. But he was super funny and amazing to train with! I loved to get to know him so well during our one-on-one classes. I had gotten a few more menacing notes…. No more de*d animals thankfully. They all said really similar things. You're not our Luna, go away, we don't want you here…. I went to bed Friday night and couldn't sleep. I was so nervous about my date with Johnathan. I couldn't get him out of my head. He had kissed me…. Why had he kissed me? We had agreed not to go too far. I was pulled out of my thoughts by the feeling of magic, I sat up and looked at my table where I had all my magical things. I watched as a rolled up piece of paper slowly faded into existence. It was slightly burnt at the edges and a faint smell of smoke accompanied it. The reply from my mom! I jumped up and grabbed the paper. I unrolled it and began to read it. With every word my heart sank ….. I sat on the edge of my bed and read it a few more times… Elizabeth, Your sister's training is going well. Thank you for asking. She will be a strong leader for the coven. She has proven to be smart and powerful. Dedication is not something she wants for. About your visit. Unfortunately we cannot plan for that at this time. Nor for a return if your marriage fails. The pack is your home now. I suggest you learn to fit in and ensure the alpha loves you enough to keep you around no matter the situation. It is best you not write again. You should focus your time and energies on being a better Luna to the pack. High Priestess Verde I felt the tears begin to fall and I let the paper drop to the ground. So it was true. I was no longer a member of my pack…. I was a bargaining chip sold off to end the war….. and if I failed then I wouldn't have a home to return to…. I walked to the balcony doors and threw them open with magic. I stepped out into the darkness. There wasn't even a sliver of moon to give light. I felt myself losing control. I knew my power was going to explode. This magic I had kept hidden from everyone my whole life. I thought it would make me a good leader. Helpful to the coven. The overwhelming power I'd feel sometimes. But I'd never even see my home again. I'd never look another coven member in the eye. I felt so alone and abandoned. The tears flowed so easily at this point I couldn't see. My powers began to slowly flow out of me. The sadness was pulling close storm clouds. I felt the power of the storm building as my power flowed into it. The thunderstorm began. As I felt my heart breaking I let of a scream of loss and pain. Just then the thunder and lightning began. It was so loud it drowned out my scream. A few drops at a time, the rain came. But soon, it was pouring down. The rain was coming down so hard it hurt my skin, and the sound of it hitting the ground all over was almost deafening. I stood in the rain for what felt like an eternity. I finally turned and went Inside. I closed my balcony doors slowly and leaned against them. I was out of tears, but the pain was just as fresh. Over the next few hours the storm outside dulled. The clouds never left and the rain only slowed to a drizzle. When I awoke I again went out to the balcony. It would be a dreary day. The sun struggles to shine from behind the storm clouds. There was a slight and constant drizzle. All of the grounds that I could see from my balcony were waterlogged. I sighed and went back inside to get ready, but left the doors open to let in the rainy breeze. I heard a knock on the door, that must be Johnathan.
