Chapter One
Lucy As I was coming out of the car, I understood my mother was proceeding to kill me. After nearly five years and only arriving home on holiday vacations, I had finally pushed too many buttons, and they kicked me out of school. My father had sent Jacob to get me from Avalon City. A lot of us modifications had trouble fitting in with pack wolves. So Avery and Aamon, who was OK for demons, opened a boarding school for us, as most of us were more comfortable around our kind. Yet, I couldn’t even see it out. Another thing I failed at. I only had three more months, and I would be eighteen and finished with school. She would kill me. Particularly, after all the begging and pleading it took for her to let me go, only for me to fail. “Best get it over with, Lucy. The longer you hold out, the worse it will get,” Jacob told me, locking my door and pushing me toward the front door. I looked up at the packhouse, which was also my home, yet the thought of facing her made me want to run. I saw the front door open and chickened out. “Nope. Catch you later, Jacob!” I shrieked before taking off. “You gotta come home sometime, Lucy! You can’t run from me forever!” I heard my mother yell as I glanced off. “Just let her go, Jacob. I will deal with her when she gets home,” I heard my mother call Jacob as he tried to catch me. Yep! I am not coming home! I thought to myself. Breaking through the treeline, I headed to my safe plSeth, my home away from home. Arthur and Seth had never been on my side, and I might just play on that a little. It took me twenty minutes before I hit the border of their pack as I entered the forest. Crossing over it, three wolves jump out, blocking me. They were always watching the perimeters. I was yet to successfully sneak onto their territory. Seth and Arthur had the plSeth locked down like Fort Knox. One of the wolves shifted back, the gray one with a white ear, and I looked up and recognized him immediately. It was one of their Betas. Arthur and Seth had two, being there were two Alphas in this pack. “Lucy? You’re back!” Chris said, a little shocked. My father hadn’t told anyone about my return, probably in case Mom would have killed me. Good thinking, Dad! Chris was taller than me, but then again, most of them were. Thanks, Omm for the short genes! While mom got hit with the short stick, the fates must have thought it funny to whack me with the whole damn tree, I thought to myself. Chris covered himself with his hand, and I put forward an eyebrow at him. His lengthy dark hair fell loosely down his back. “Nothing I haven’t seen before. Where are Arthur and Seth?” I asked him. “Packhouse.” I tried to step around them when Chris stepped in my way, blocking me. I looked up at the huge burly man and folded my arms across my chest, and he smirked. “Always up to mischief. It’ll get you in trouble one day.” “Ha! Me? I’m no problem. But if you don’t move, Chris, trouble might just find you,” I teased. “Maybe a phone call would have been good first Lucy. They didn’t realize you would be back,” he said, crossing his arms across his chest while my eyes darted down. He quickly realized his mistake and dropped his arrows to cover himself again. I chuckled at him as he was defeated. He was around Arthur and Seth’s age, but I could tell I was making him uncomfortable. “Since when do I need to call ahead? Move Chris,” I told him, and he sighed, motioning to the other two to get out of my way. They pursued me to the packhouse. “I know where they live. You don’t need to follow me, Chris.” “I know. Just making sure you don’t go off anywhere else. We’ve been having issues with Alpha Jamie,” he said, and I turned around to prefetch. “Alpha Jamie? Since when is that anything new?” He shrugged, and I looked back up at the packhouse before turning to tell him to go, only to find him and the other two wolves already gone. I walked up the porch steps before hearing a moan. Looking out at the driveway, I saw Melana’s red Suzuki Swift and rolled my eyes. I knew it shouldn’t have irked me, but it did. Melana had been on and off with Seth for years now. I used to be friends with her, but I couldn’t stand the woman now. She was Josey’s sister, who was my friend still, but Melana was also five years older than me and the same age as Seth and Arthur. Jumping off the porch, I walked around the side of the house, stopping at Seth’s window. His curtain was wide open, and I could see the b***h jumping up and down on him like he was a pogo stick. I ducked down when she looked toward the window. Covering my mouth as I snickered. Walking out back, I went to the shed, looking around, my eyes lit up when I saw brake fluid on the shelf. Grabbing it, I also found some white paint and grabbed that too. Fine! She won’t leave? I will make her! I thought to myself as I walked back to the front yard. I tipped the brake fluid on her car, squirting it on her paint, knowing it would destroy it and eat the paint away. I tossed the bottle before grabbing the tin of white paint and walked up the porch steps while undoing the lid with my claws. The front door suddenly opened, and I hid the tin behind my back. Arthur stopped in his tracks when he saw me. A look of chaos crossed his gorgeous fSefeet“Lucy?” He seemed shocked but damn, did he smell good. They had always smelt nice, but his scent was mouth-watering good and so much stronger than I recalled. I hadn’t seen them since last Christmas, so it had been a good eight months, but damn! He looked better than ever.
