31 CONTACT Peter returned home Thursday morning after dropping off Kayten at Seneca High and took a personal day so he could hang near the phone in case the robot had to make contact. At four p.m. he put down the newspaper and told Pam that he had to run to the lab. “Have to add an item to that operating committee presentation.” He stood and stretched, doing his best to act relaxed. “Do you really have to, dear?” Pam asked, pushing the crossword puzzle aside. “I won’t be long.” “You should get your work done in normal business hours. And learn how to take a complete day off without any trips to the lab.” “You’re right.” “When’s the last time we went out by ourselves for the evening?” “Okay, okay. Maybe we can go out for dinner tomorrow. Something nice, like a fast-food place,”
