32 BLACKMAIL Peter finished Kayten’s restoration before six. The android fixed a light dinner of soup and sandwiches that Peter ate his without tasting either. “Oh, Kayten’s back,” Pam said on entering the kitchen. “I finished the systems check. Made a few adjustments, and now everything is within specs. Your faithful household servant is back in operation.” “Excellent. I didn’t realize what a wonderful device he is. More useful than a vacuum cleaner and more entertaining. He can resume his duties by tending to the kitchen.” Pam pointed to the sink. “If we ever lose Kayten, we will have to hire a butler. Or, even better, a maid. She can wear a nice black-and-white uniform and, of course, be about sixty, from Chihuahua, right?” Normally Peter would have laughed. Not tonight.
