The Dream

Chapter 1

Everyone dreamed about having superpowers, and I’m one of them. Hi, it’s me Kael, living in the Philippines and my dream is to have a power that can travel through time and all dimensions. Being in the present time, I am just curious about what’s in the past and what’s in the future. Well, basically, I really wanted to see if dinosaurs existed and, of course, to meet people from the past. I want to know their culture. What happened in the past? Is the book we are reading to this present the truth? I am just curious about everything. Because of that obsession, I spent most of my time researching and building a time machine. Until one day, I was about to buy some groceries at the convenience store and suddenly a portal appeared in front of me. At first, I doubted, but then I decided to enter that portal. I went back to the past and I didn’t know what year I was in. I don’t recognize the city either. Everyone is looking at me. Then, I realized that it was all about my outfit. It’s different from the past. Most men have mustaches and most people wear a hat as their fashion. Women wear long dresses. I’m wearing a shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes. Now I know why they are staring at me. The weather is different. It's a sunny day, but it is not that hot. People are walking in the streets. I don’t see any transportation in that timeline. Of course, the smartphone that was in my pocket is not working. Most of the buildings were made of wood. Well, I guess I really traveled back in time. At first, I was a bit nervous. Thinking about how I can go back to my present timeline, but this is what I want. It’s a dream come true.

As I wandered around the city, I realized that it was actually better in the old days. Watching people in the café without using any gadgets while enjoying their chitchat. Drinking coffee and eating muffins. Children playing around compared to my present timeline. It’s so relaxing. I guess it’s better to stay here for a while. While walking on the streets and enjoying this city, I felt hungry.

Kael: Miss, can I have some coffee and bread please? I’m so hungry.

Cashier:(Shocked) I’m sorry sir, but we can’t serve you.

Kael: Why?

Cashier: Your money is different.

Kael: I understand.

Sad to say, the money inside my pocket is useless. Everyone in the café was staring at me. I try to talk to them, but they ignore me because they think that I’m weird.

Kael: Hmm, where should I go now?

Someone dragged me out of the blue.

Kael: Hey! What are you doing?

Stranger: Are you hungry?

Kael: Yes!

Stranger: Here you can have my bread.

Kael: Really? Thanks! My name is Kael. Nice to meet you. What’s your name?

Red: My name is Red.

Kael: You were the first person who talked to me. Don’t you find me weird?

Red: No. Not really.

Kael: How come?

Red: Can you tell me what year you are from?

Kael: (Shocked) Are you perhaps a time traveler too?

Red: Yes! I come from the year 2002.

Kael: I see. I come from the year 2016.

Red: Really? Don’t tell me that a random portal appeared in front of you and that’s why you ended up here.

Kael: Yup! So Red, how are we able to go back to our year? I don’t have advanced technology here to build a time machine.

Red: Are you a scientist ?

Kael: Nope! I just want to go to the past and see the future. That’s why I didn’t stop searching and building a time machine. But here I am, back in the past. I don’t know what happened. Now I don’t know how to go back to my present time.

Red: Don’t panic. I’ve been thinking about that also. Did you know? It is my 3rd time traveling back in the past.

Kael: (Shocked) Really!? How did you do that!?

Red: I’ll teach you everything. But first we need a place to rest. It’s getting dark.

Kael: I don’t have the money in this timeline. How can we get a place?

Red: Don’t worry. Remember that this is my 3rd time in this timeline. I have a friend who can help us. We will stay there for a while.

While we were walking, I asked him what year I had been in. That's when I found out I was in the year 1840. Then, we arrived at his friend’s place. His name is Nick.

Nick: Hi Red! Who’s with you?

Red: This is Kael, a friend of mine. Can we stay here for a while?

Nick: Sure! It’s not a big deal. You’ve done too much for me. That’s the least I can do for you.

Red: Thank you, Nick

Kael: Thank you so much Nick. It’s my first time here, so I don’t know this place and I also don’t know anyone.

Nick: (confused) What do you mean?

Red: Oh, it’s nothing Nick. I will explain to you later.

Nick: Oh, okay then. Have a good night.

Red told me not to say anything about the portal or anything about our present time. It’s time to rest now. I'm a little exhausted wandering throughout the city. I miss my room, but I want to stay a little longer to know their culture and add it to my studies. That’s my first night in this timeline.
