USS Halibut – At the Cable
I’ve said several times how submarining is endless hours of boredom interrupted by moments of sheer panic. Well, saturation diving is all that – in spades!
The Can measured about thirty by seven feet inside. The main lock took up twenty-two, and was filled with eight feet of two two-tier bunks at the front end and fourteen feet of table, several built-in seats, gauges, lockers, etc. toward the rear. The entry lock was about eight feet of toilet, sink, shower head, and both the entry hatch from the sub and the exit hatch to the water. For four people it was not bad, all things considered.
