Sephora’s POV
Leaving the room through the roof, I found the trace of the assassins and followed them instantly. I don't know why I'm doing this, but I have to. Even if I hate him that much, I still need to do my work as his servant and guard.
On his coronation day after he approached me and I turned him down, I left the ceremonial ground only to be obstructed by one of the ministers. I can't tell his title because I'm never interested to know it, but I'm sure he's a Lycan and in a higher position.
“If he comes back to you again, keep rejecting him. Don't stay close to him as your Luna." It sounded like a warning but I didn't take it to heart, all because I never wanted a mate any longer. But looking at how things are turning, I'm beginning to believe that he is planning a rebellion and wouldn't want me to save the King.
Both in the werewolf packs and Lycan Clans, I am one of the warriors known after the chief Lycan warrior, and so everyone believes that I can tackle any issue that comes up in the pack that concerns people's lives. “I've saved several packs and Clans several times, I see no reason I can't save the King from this hell. Even if he won't be mine, I don't want him to be overthrown—he's one King that everyone wants because he puts his people first before himself…'' I muttered and slashed my sword at the back of one of the assassins and he somersaulted and fell to the ground.
I went down immediately and grabbed him up, pulling out his mask to see his face. “A suicide killer!'' I pushed him to the ground after leaving a cut on his lower abdomen, he growled in pain. “Who sent you? If you tell me so easily, I'll spare your life…'' I squatted before him.
He exposed his teeth but didn't say a word. That's one thing I hate about them—they hardly speak, all they do is carry out orders.
“I won't spare you if you don't speak,” I said to him and he was still mute. That won't do, I just hope nothing else will happen there in my absence. I dragged him up and punched him multiple times until he passed out. If I can't hear him speak, then he will be proof.
I dragged him to a hidden corner where I keep suspects and interrogate them, there i laid him on the floor, and covered him with leaves, so no one would find out about him. Before he gets up, I'll be back. Even if I don't show up today, he can't untie himself and runaway.
“Why not visit the ministers one after the other? You might find the minister…” my wolf suggested. But it's a difficult thing to do since I'm not from their pack. It might become a crime because their mission was not accomplished because of me. “I'll take a look around the Clan and see if there's something suspicious. Whoever sent them will be waiting for feedback from them…” I thought and followed the route the others took until I reached a double way.
I became confused. I didn't need to make a mistake.
“Take your left, I have a bad feeling about it.” my wolf uttered and I took the left immediately. It was as quiet as a graveyard and a bit scary for someone to step into…..but I've been to countless wars where we stayed in a more scary place than here, so I think I can handle it.
I went deeper until I began hearing murmurs from behind, and then I turned to see Jasper and an old man standing opposite each other. I had thought it was just them until I saw two other old men standing at a side ...then on top of the trees were the assassins that visited the palace.
“Who knows, this might be the end of me…” I swallowed hard and hid since none of them saw me except for the assassins. I was fuming in anger, not just because of the assassins now, but because I came in sight with Jasper. “That monster, I wonder what relationship he has with these old geezers.” I began climbing the tree that I was leaning on.
There's no way I'll just hide and let them leave without noticing that they were caught. Up there on the tree, I dipped my hand into my side pocket and brought out poisonous needles. The chief warrior had ordered me never to walk around without it because I might fall into danger where the sword would be useless.
They were staring at me, knowing that I was after them. I filled the needle in my palm and began targeting them one after the other. While some of them were on a run, I went after them.
“Assholes! You think only suicide killers run on the tree huh? The chief warrior trained me that way…” I reached closer to where Jasper was and threw one of the needles at him. He growled and staggered around drawing the attention of the other men to come closer, then I gave them their share. I don't need to lose any of them. “If you run away before I'm done with them…then go home in pain…” I laughed and hopped to the other tree still after the assassins.
Finally, they were all lying on the ground, struggling to pull the needle out so it wouldn't affect their whole body.
“If you survive the pain, come after me again in the palace,” I said to them while watching from the tree.
I headed back to where Jasper and the other men were and then jumped down. They were startled.
“You are all Lycans and I'm a werewolf, why should you be scared of me?” I said to them, their gaze affixed on me.
I walked closer to Jasper. “You don't deserve to live!” I cursed him and took a look at their faces. My eyes caught that minister and I was sure he was the one who gave me that warning on that day. The look on his face said it all. “Don't tell me this is the reason you warned me that day?” I turned to Jasper. “Are you trying to rebel against the King?”
He gritted his teeth. Seems like the pain from the needle already subsided.
“Don't you wish to be my Luna? I know you wanted a rejection from him because you still love me right?” he widened his eyes.
I swallowed bitterly. This jerk thinks that I'm a b***h like his sister. “Did I ever tell you that or don't you know that I'm working for the King?'' I took steps closer to him. He must be using me as a reason to plot rebellion.
“He made you his servant and will soon crown my sister, and I regret my actions back then—that's why I need to take that throne and make you my Luna because you deserve it, or better still, come back to me freely so he won't be hurt.” he stated, thinking it was funny.
The image of Aria flashed into my mind. “You chose my friend that day instead of me, so what makes you think you'll be able to win me back? Don't tell me you're up to dumping that enemy I call a friend.”
“Come on, I was just playing some games with her. I can't have her beside me, did you already forget who I am?” he boasted. He's still proud of his stupid acts. I choked his throat. “Then tell me what will be of your sister after you take the throne, because I'm never coming back to you? You plan on selling her to another King?” he rolled his eyes, which means he can do that.
“Jon must regret taking you away from me….” that was a statement coming from someone who rejected me in the presence of people, called me names, cursed me, and even kicked me hard. I wonder what he thinks he's doing, maybe I'll support him and fall for him again? “For making you his servant instead of Luna, I'll make him pay for it,” he added and I gave him a heavy punch.
I breathed out. “How dare you talk ill of the King? I was the one who wanted a rejection and not him. What business do you even have with it when you already rejected me?'' I gritted my teeth. “Stop using me as an excuse, I am not that dumb to come back to you again. If you don't let go of the King, i'll start from your sister—besides, she's dragging my mate with me.'' I slammed angrily.
As it stands, I don't care if I want a rejection or not, I'll fight for the King. “Sierra knew about this and that's why she left the palace.” I thought and turned back to them. “I know your faces now, see you at the palace.”
“King Jon doesn't love you Sephora ... just forgive me and I'll make it up.” Jasper screamed while I took my leave.
