Amelia:
RAIN PELTED MY face stinging my cheeks and soaking my entire body completely making short work of the thin material that acted as a thin barrier between my clothes and my icy cold skin as I walked through New York's now quieter streets looking over my shoulder every now and then as I made sure I wasn't been followed
I hurried along the puddle streaked street because I knew even if I was a fraction over the agreed meeting time then they wouldn't be happy and I could only imagine the punishment that would be laid out for me. I check my phone for the fifth time that evening and once again I find my mind wandering to the girl that I had bumped into and the way her light brown hair had been straightened for the day but was normally naturally wavy and the way her dark blue eyes seemed to grow darker and stormier when she was in a pissed off mood that she seemed to be that afternoon and for maybe the hundredth time that night I had to remind myself that she was just a girl and that she was just my target.
Picking up the pace I all but sprinted the rest of the ay until I reached a shabby half run-down motel that a few years ago had been put up for demolition and bought by a company that if you searched the name of it to Google would only come up with a half-assed website page listing only a fake telephone number and equally fake photographs for a fake company as they never did demolish the run-down place like it should have been
Instead, they use the building as an HQ
Upon entering, I get many strange and funny looks cast my way as I looked like a drowned rat head to toe but I just shrugged the looks off and headed towards the elevator taking it up to the top floor
I hastily walk down the corridor and turn left walking until I hit the end of it and was faced with a door, one that was rotting away under years of stress and people using it but other than the rot I didn't stay to see the streaks and marks covering the door and instead walked in -- face full of faux confidence
The room at the end of the corridor was big -- to build the 'office' two walls were knocked down to make a bigger room-- and within the room, there was a large desk centred in the middle and pushed up against one of the walls with a big black spinning chair positioned in the middle of the desk and there was a massive grandfather clock standing proudly in the other corner ticking away making me feel slightly uneasy
And standing in front of one of the rotted shut windows staring out onto the busy street of people that were to busy to notice they were walking straight past a building that was supposed to be knocked down a few years back. I stand completely still for a few moments knowing that my boss hated to be disturbed while he was observing
When he did slowly turn around I was intermediated but I didn't show it keeping up the façade that I was confident. His icy blue eyes drilled into my green-grey eyes as his gaze fell onto me a shiver ran through me as the person in front of me inspected me and when he noticed I looked similar to that of a drowned rat his lip curled up in disgust and his eyebrows drew closer together
"Have you made contact with the target yet?" He asked slowly pronouncing each and every word
I nod slowly, careful of my movements as I think back to a few hours ago when I bumped into my target and as I did so something was riddling in my chest squeezing my lungs until it was hard to breathe but I ignore that sensation and watch closely as my boss took in that information not saying a word just staring at me under intense eyes
"Good good because now I'm sending you back to high school Amelia and your job is to become friends with the target gain her trust before bringing her back to me where I will finish her off myself bringing an end to all of my hard work and an end to the Philip family legacy," My boss says pacing around the room and as he does running a hand which was had on it an expensive Rolex watch on his wrist through his blonde (but slightly greying) gelled back hair
"What? You want me to go back to high school when I've just graduated" I ask
"Why? Do you think you'll not be able to do the job" My boss fires back
I shake my head quickly telling him that I could do this and that I needed to do this because I needed the money to buy a house for me and my little brother Matthew who was still stuck in the orphanage that I left last year it was the hardest thing that I have ever had to do before leaving him but I needed the money and my boss offered me a lot of money for a few jobs here and there at first I was hesitant I knew who this man was and what he had done to his family but at the same time I needed the money so I accepted and was put to work researching everything I could get my hands on to do with the Philips family and even though over time my boss recruited more and more people to do the same thing I was still the best person for the job so when our target got old enough to go out on her own many people tried and failed to come back with anything substantial
Until today that is
"Good because I've enrolled you at Abbey high school and you start on Monday morning," Ellis Philips tells me "Now go dry up girl and stop getting water on my carpets"
