The Gem

"Hey, Tess can we stop at The Shop. I want to see if they have any new jewelry." Claira, my best friend, asked. The Shop is where we work. It is also one of our favorite stores ever. "Fine. But only because I want to look at their new jewelry too." I said. My name is Tessa or just Tess to my friends/family. I have the most normal life ever. Extraordinary things just don't happen to fairly poor, small-town girls like me. The only thing that isn't super boring in my life is the fact that my Aunt Chloe owns the best place to go shopping in the county. Meaning we got quite a few people that go shopping there. An added bonus is that Aunt Chlo refuses to hire anyone except for me and Claira, so all the girls hate us because we get an employee discount on all the cutest clothes at school. No, we're not popular. Everyone hates us too much. It's been like this since I started preschool. I think it has something to do with my parents. Anywho, when we got to The Shop, Claira went and attacked the jewelry. Literally. She ran into a display case. I, on the other hand, went to greet my Aunt. "Hey, Aunty Chlo." "Tessa. I was hoping you would come to see me today. I have something for you." Aunt Chloe said before disappearing into the back room. When she came back she had a rustic looking necklace on a piece of leather. The charm was a crescent moon with a ruby, in the shape of a star, sitting on the bottom point. "This is a family heirloom. It's been with our family for thousands of years. I thought you might like it." "Wow. It's absolutely gorgeous. Is that ruby real?" I asked in awe. "Yes, it is. It's a very expensive piece of jewelry and I want you to have it." She said. "Are you sure? I don't want to break it or lose it." "It is impossible to break and it won't come off unless you take it off with your own free will. I am very sure. I want you to put it on and never take it off again." She said with a very serious face. "Okay..." I trailed off taking it and putting it on. "Good. Now I think Claira needs to check her items out. Remember what I said. Never take it off." She said walking over to the register to check out Claira's items. "What was that all about?" Claira asked me as we got in the car. "Aunty Chlo wanted to give me a family heirloom. This necklace." I said showing her the necklace. "That's so gorgeous. It fits your style perfectly too." She said. "I know. It's like it was made for me... I wonder how our family got it?" I wondered out loud. 'It was given to them to protect the one witch who would be more powerful than any other. Only the rightful owner, this witch, can tell what type of gem is in the middle all others just see a gold star.' "Did you hear that??" I asked shocked "Hear what? Your brain? Babe, I hate to tell you this but that's long gone." Claira joked. "Answer this: what is on the bottom point of the crescent?" "It's a gold star now why are you freaking out." She said with a 'seriously?' face. "No reason. I'm fine. I just have to talk to my parents about something when I get home and I really hope they tell the truth." As soon as I said I hoped that they told the truth I felt a tingle go through my body... weird...
