Hi lovelies, welcome to spectrum. Well this book will be in POVs. Emma’s, Jordan’s and a third person POV. (The third person tells the story from outside what Emma and Jordan tells. They obviously can’t know everything going on hereby the third POV to help get every side of the story). I hope you’ll enjoy the book more with this little clarification. I love you all❤️ “Baby”, Jordan whined dragging out the ‘y’ in it. “I said it was just a joke I didn’t mean it that way”. “Well, I don’t appreciate such jokes”, came a deep voice from her phone, which was on speakerphone. Jordan rolled her eyes at the phone and made faces at it, then she sighed. “Okay I’m sorry, please forgive me”. “Whatever”, came the voice again. This time around, it got her irritated and she looked for an excuse to hang up. “Hey, umm I’m kind of busy my mom just called me. I have to go”. “Sure, I’ll see you in school in two days right?” “You bet, bye”. Next she heard was a dial tone, she looked at her phone incredulously, “what?! Not even a bye babe from this mf”. Her phone began ringing again and she smiled thinking he was calling back to apologize for hanging up that way. She reached for her phone and saw that it was her best friend that was calling her instead, her face fell a little at the disappointment but then she brightened up quickly as she realized who was calling her. “Maya my baby girl I’ve missed you so much”, she said immediately she picked up the call and put it on speaker. “That’s suspicious Emma”, came Maya’s voice from the phone. Emma laughed, but it sounded forced. She was still upset with her boyfriend. “That sounded very very fake, is that how happy you are to hear from me?” Emma laughed for real this time. “I’m sorry, I just got off the phone with you know who and let’s say he would have succeeded in ruining my day but thank God for you”. “Oh, and how is dickhead doing?” Emma howled, Maya has never been a fan of her boyfriend and she know she wouldn’t ever be. The energy goes both ways but they usually put their differences aside for the sake of Emma. “You know, he’s being him and being like you said, a fickhead”. Emma rarely cuss, which was quite amusing to Maya because she laughed like she always did whenever her best friend does this. “I said dickhead ma’am. Anyways you want me to f him up? Just say the word”. “God no Maya”, Emma laughed. She loves Maya to death, the girl is way protective about her and she liked it. “Did he even really talk to you throughout summer?” Emma didn’t answer. “I knew it, some type of boyfriend he is. Dump him before it’s too late Emma”. Emma rolled her eyes, “I love him and he loves me too”. “Yeah right, I bet he does. How comes y’all only start talking back when school is about to resume. Like every time”. Emma kept quiet. “I thought so”. Emma heard someone then shouting Maya’s name at the background. “Sorry love, gotta go. I have school shopping to do, mom have been on my neck .since for it. Bye I love you”. “I love you too, bye”. Maya is a rich kid, but a very humble girl. Not like some of the kids at school. At first when she met the pretty dark haired girl, she never knew she was money till the day she was introduced to her family. Her mother had immediately fallen in love with Emma and had a soft spot for her, while her father adores her. Ever since then, the pair had become inseparable. If not for their different racial backgrounds, one would mistake them for siblings. ‘Psshh, some people still do’. Emma stood up from her bed and went into the bathroom to brush her teeth, she looked at herself in the mirror while brushing. Emma’s POV ‘I guess this is where I do a little introduction of myself right?’ ‘My name is Emma, yes I know and yes you got it right. Emma the short for Emmanuella, but don’t call me that, I hate it’. ‘I’m twenty years old the first child and first daughter of my parents, a position I sometimes wish I was not occupying. I have two younger siblings, a boy and a girl. ‘I’m two years older than my brother, and five years older than my sister. They both go to a boarding school and since summer break was long over, they were both back in school. While I’m here preparing to go back to college’. ‘FYI college sucks, but don’t tell my mom that I said that. She’ll freak out’. ‘She thinks going to college is the only way for guaranteed success. While I disagree with her, I also don’t let her know what I think about her ideology’. ‘Ever since my dad and my mom got separated, I feel it’s my duty to keep the family together. To be the bridge, I’m meant to be the perfect daughter and set good examples for my siblings, well I’m a perfect example to them”. ‘I finished brushing my teeth and stepped back to look at myself properly in the mirror’. “Not so bad looking”, I muttered to myself and laughed. “Emma!!! Isn’t it time for you to leave your room already?” I heard my mother scream from probably the kitchen area. God my mother, I love her to death but this morning screams are slowly driving me insane. “I’m coming mom, give me a minute”, I called out back. It’s like our daily routine. I splashed some water on my face and turned sideways to look at the cornrows on my head, they were loosening out. My hair never stays long in cornrows, even though I’m black, I still have my father’s genes in me. Yes, my father is not black, he’s white so my hair is not as thick as a full black person’s own is. It gets everyone confused most times because I have caramel skin, I’m supposed to be like light skin black. Mom keeps saying her genes were stronger in me. I agree because I’m very beautiful, and curvy like my mom. “Hey mom”, I greeted and kissed her cheeks as I got to her in the kitchen. “Ooh, sausages”, I sneaked and picked one to eat. “Stop messing around and set the table for breakfast”. I sighed and went about to do what she said, my mother is a very strict woman with rules and every rules must be adhered to. Rules like, following everything the Bible says and sitting down for every meal of the day as a family together, not kissing boys, relationships are unclean except if it’s overseen by the church and that’s only when it’s marriage inclined. ‘Okay maybe she’s a bit lenient about the last one, but the point is my mother is very strict’. ‘Which doesn’t really make sense to me because I don’t really relate to some of the rules, for one I’m not a religious person. Spiritual I am, like I pray and believe in God but the whole ideology and theory of Christianity doesn’t sit right with me. And I’m also not marriage inclined. But will my mother ever know any of this about me? No, I’d be dead, black moms are scary just in case you don’t know’. “I’m done mother”, I called out from the dining room and went into the kitchen to bring the bowls of food to the table. I finished setting up and my mother joined me on the table, after saying grace over the food, we started eating. “I heard you talking to your boy this morning”. At first I didn’t want to respond to her, even though she’s lenient with me having a boyfriend, she still gives me hell about it and never skip the opportunity to let me know all relationships outside the church are a sin. But then she just had to go, “Are you sleeping with him already?” “Sleeping?” “Yes you know, like having s*x with him. Are you fornicating already?” “Mom!!” I groaned, I love this woman. I really do but she’ll be the death of me. “It’s fine if you have before, I mean you just have to stop. Tell him and stand firm on your word that you don’t want to be committing sin again”. “Mom, mom I’m not having s*x”, a part of me wanted to add yet but I know that will bring up an entire discussion I wasn’t ready for. “Are you sure?” “Yes mom, I’m sure. I’m still a virgin”, which was true. Even though I’ve been in a relationship for some time, I’m not yet sexually active. It’s not like my boyfriend Asher doesn’t want to, but I’m not ready. I don’t feel the sparks or anything whenever he like touches me. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love him but minus the s****l tension. Probably because I grew up thinking that s*x is a bad thing for unmarried people and I shouldn’t think about it. “You are? Oh thank God”, she sighed before launching into her sermon of hope it’s hard to find young people who are virgins these days. “It’s good that you and your Asher have decided not to be sexually active”. ‘Oh my God I have to shut her up’. “I’m going to dad’s place today”. That worked the magic, she stopped talking and stared at me. “Oh”, she dropped her fork on her plate but I continued eating like I hadn’t said anything. “Does he know you’re going to his place?” I shook my head no, “do I really need permission to go to my father’s house again?” “You know that’s not what I mean sweetie”. I know, I know exactly what she was talking about, ever since my father left us I disliked him. We were best of friends before the whole family breaking up thing, even though he was still a shitty father then. “I have to go collect my money for school and to say hello to his girlfriend”. “Don’t do anything stupid?” I fake gasped then stuffed a sausage into my mouth and chew slowly. “I don’t know if I’m to be hurt by how lowly you think of me mother”. “Don’t get smart mouthed with me Emma”. “I’m sorry”. “Have you packed your bags?” “Yes mother”. “You’re sure you don’t want to do school shopping here?” “No ma’am, I’d rather do that over there, I don’t want the extra load. I’m not in my first year”. “If that’s fine by you”. “Yes mother”. I finished up eating and drained my glass of juice. “Why are we having juice and not coffee again mom?” My mother looked at me with a glare. “Chill I’m joking mom”. I stood up and took my plates to the sink and washed it. “I’m driving over to dad’s place, let me go prepare and leave as soon as I can”. “When are you coming back?” “Today of course!” I replied her, snatching an apple from the fruit bowl. “Thank you mom, I love you”. I kissed her and skipped to my room to prepare, the quicker I get this done the better.
