Chapter 1: The Whisper's of War
The Whispers of War
The cold, sharp face of Aminta was pierced by the night breeze, like thunder and lightning. Standing at the edge of the dark forest, he gazed upon the twinkling lights of Tavan's Maw, an ancient industrial complex situated in the Pacific Northwest. A house not to be considered. Tavan's stronghold.
Aminta's chest was filled with a growl that conveyed old pain and new anger. Despite being the Alpha member of the Millian Pack, his pack was small and had been broken. His parents, home, and the light he had been living under were all taken by a brutal attack years ago.
His fated mate. That night, he thought her body had perished in the flames. The addition of her made him feel like he was half a vampire, as his mystic powers had diminished. A hollow leader.
The Millian clan's rise to power is a result of the ancient prophecy, which he was haunted by. In the absence of his Luna, how could it be expected to come to fruition?
While his best friend and loyal companion Beta pulled Aminta out of his darkish state.
With a melancholy complexion and the darkness of the forest, Elias asked: “Are we prepared”?
“To bring down the Mura clan, we must first find out the secret of Tavan's magical powers. Finding a disloyal member of the Mura clan to spill the beans will be difficult” says Aminta.
So what's the plan? Questioned Beta, with his cracky baritone voice.
“Our best option will be a promise of freedom to any of his numerous captives who will in turn give a useful lead to bring him down”.
Beta and the other clan members nod in understanding of Aminta's idea. "That will mean planning a systematic break-in with a possible bloody exit if anything goes bad, escaping with the freed captive" Elias added.
With a firm smile, Aminta nodded and his jaw dropped. “We'll be as prepared as we can ever be……This is for our pack. This is a fight against the monster that took everything”.
The strategy was straightforward and hazardous: a rapid, forceful assault. ". Take hold of any captives, gather information, and potentially nutralise Tavan's dark powers.... Unknown sources had contributed to the loud whispers of Tavan's twisted magic. It was so much more than just words....
"Live first,' Aminta cautioned his small army of warriors.
“No unnecessary fights”. His face is full of melancholy. A small number of people but very loyal.
They sprinted through the darkness like inferno. The trees were their companions, casting long and changing shadows.. It smelt scorched earth and something else -- unnatural, like illness -- in the air. Tavan's magic.
Their location was on the edge of the compound. This location was far from being ordinary. Against the trees, sharp cold metal structures stood tall like teeth. There would be no typical pack building in this area. The location was a work in progress.'
Aminta signaled. With their cool air, they moved away from the outer walls and breathed in quietly. They perceived the faint sounds of distress, including distant whimpers and wails. His angry wolf let out silent roars.
Then, a guard. The largest of the Mura wolves, it was sentient and stood by a low entrance.
Aminta was the first to move, with a quiet presence.' The guard could no longer howl under the blazing hail. Aminta experienced a brief moment of pleasure, accompanied by vengeance. But it was not enough. It would never be enough.
They entered the building, stumbling over a network of frigid, metal corridors.' Even the air was thicker, heavier, and had an odd, sickly scent. The crying became more loud and desperate. Seeing hollow-eyed, undead and weak wolves, they passed by cells. Aminta's heart ached with fury.
The most powerful cries, the most painful, were followed by them. They moved to a more secure and expansive chamber. Aminta opened the door just enough to peer into and back.
His breath caught.
On a cold, metal slab, in the center of the room, was situated. A female. Dark, long wavy hair covered her like an invisible cloud, and yet still her body... A peculiar, glowing apparatus buzzed above her. She looked fragile, almost transparent.
He did not know her. He shouldn't. But something screamed inside him. A recognition older than memory. A powerful, wild sound emanated from his wolf.
Suddenly, alarms blared. The room was adorned with garish, urgent streaks of red lights and Elias shouted, "We've been found.
Tavan's guards swarmed them. Surprise factor was not an issue. Aminta screamed, moving in a part with his claws out, his teeth exposed. He fought with fury, shielding his troop and striving to advance, attempting to reach the girl.'
Tavan made his way through the chaos. Standing tall, dark, his eyes flickered with a strange intensity.... With a grim expression, he was incredulous.
He proceeded at an unimaginable pace, effortlessly pushing away Aminta's fighters..
Despite the noise, Tavan spoke "Foolish Alpha" and gestured to himself, before two large guards took hold of the unconscious woman.
They hoisted her, dragging her quickly to a hidden exit.
The sound of Aminta's lunged push. He replied with a raw, animal-like response: "No!". He had no idea why, but he was determined to prevent them. With his teeth and claws gnawing at him, he tore through the Mura wolves. It was like an intense battle.
But Tavan was fast. A wall of darkness he created to confront Aminta. "This one girl, loser” Tavan whispered, his eyes fixed on the woman being carried away. He greeted his teeth in a savaged manner. An unmuttered warning....
The female was almost gone. As the guards dragged her through the exit, something fell from her neck. A small, dark object. It bounced once on the cold floor and slid towards Aminta's foot.
The fight was becoming hopeless. His pack was getting too many hits. "Alpha, we have to go," Elias roared. Now! ".
After looking at the disappearing figure, Aminta gave a desperate look and then looked down at it with his foot. It was a necklet. Slightly shaped like a half-moon, the metal is aged and dark.
Aminta made a final, painful decision, "Return!" to which his wolf responded with anger. He was not pleased to leave. But he'd to protect what remained of his pack. He kicked the necklace instinctively, scooping it up with his foot, just as a huge Mura wolf slammed into him.
They fought their way out, a brutal, bloody retreat. Back into the safety of the night, bleeding and broken, but alive.
Later, hidden deep in their own territory, the wounds were tended. The defeat stung, a bitter taste in Aminta's mouth. He sat alone, staring into the flickering embers of a small fire. His hand reached into his pocket, pulling out the necklace. It felt old, smooth, and strangely familiar.
He'd another half-moon necklace. A twin. It had been his, given to him by his parents on the same day they gave Anita her matching one. A symbol of their fated bond, a childhood promise. He'd kept it hidden away, a painful reminder of what he'd lost.
Slowly, his fingers trembled as he pulled his own half from its hidden pouch on his wrist. He held them side by side. The one he'd kept, and the one he'd found.
They were a perfect match.
As he brought the two halves together, they clicked into place with a soft, undeniable snick. A sudden, warm current pulsed through his hand, a shocking jolt of energy that coursed through his entire body. The faded symbol on his chest, where his mystic powers had once resided, flared with a faint, unfamiliar warmth.
This can only mean one thing! The impossible truth slammed into him, harder than any Mura wolf could hit. The woman Tavan held.... What else could be more real!
