This town is the definition of southern charm! There are boutiques, dress shops, a cafe and so much more! Everyone we pass is so friendly and welcoming. This is such a huge difference from what I am used to.
"Hey, do y'all want to grab some coffee and a snack before we start in the shops? Father sent us money to buy dresses for the ball, wouldn't want to embarrass him with the dresses we already had. I guess if we are going to have to go to the ball we might as well look amazing and have fun with it!" As soon as I asked, the scent of warm, chocolate chip cookies hit my nose. A feeling of nostalgia hit as the smell brought back memories of my mom. She used to let us help bake cookies back before the accident that took her from us. We would spend hours in the kitchen just the 3 of us baking cookies and just spending time together. I am grateful for the memories I have but they are like a double edged sword. I miss her so much.
I don't know how long I was stuck in my memories before I was shaken out of them by my sister, "Elyse, are you ok? We've been trying to talk to you for a little bit now. Where did you go?"
"Uhh, yeah sorry. The smell of those cookies reminded me of mom. So, what are we doing?" I asked with a small shrug. I knew my sister would understand and from the little smile that graced her lips I could tell she was remembering the same good times.
"We are going to head to that bakery and then to the dress shop! I like your idea and I didn't bring anything to wear to the ball in a few days anyway!" Of course you didn't Samantha, any excuse to shop with this one! With that we made our way to the cutest little bakery. The outside reminded me of a fairy tale. It was a little stone building with vines and flowers climbing the outside. As soon as you walked in there was a large brick oven and the sweetest smells! Cakes and fresh baked breads, cookies and cinnamon rolls and Oh gosh am I drooling! Behind the counter is the most adorable older woman who looks like someone's grandmother! Just from her scent I can tell she isn't a wolf but I don't know what she might be either!
"Hello darling girls! We are very excited to have you with us today, Elyse and Elysabeth! And of course, your cousin Samantha! What can I get for y'all today?" Asked the sweet lady behind the counter. She chuckled at our bewildered expressions and patiently waited for us to speak.
"Um, how do you know who we are? We just got here a few minutes ago and haven't spoken to anyone." I asked finally coming out of my shocked state. What is she?
The lady just smiled while handing me a chocolate chip cookie and my sister a blueberry muffin. "I am Martha and no child, I am not a wolf," did I say that out loud, "I have the gift of foresight and I have seen how important you two will become to the wolf world, to the whole world actually. What wonderful young ladies to have these roles!"
Elysabeth and I share a look, completely baffled as to what she means. How can we be important to the world? We aren't even from a large pack.
"Thank you so much for your kind words but what do you mean?" Elysabeth asks her quietly. The picture of grace and perfection.
"Ah, that my child is for another time! For now, enjoy your pastries and our small town! I look forward to seeing y'all again real soon!" She said before turning to her oven to remove more goodies.
"Okay, Thank you! We will be back soon!" I said on the way out the door. What an odd encounter. Why do I feel like something big is about to happen and our lives will never be the same? We spent our remaining time before dinner shopping and enjoying ourselves. We all found dresses for the ball and plenty of other things. Maybe this place won't be so bad!
