CHAPTER ONE: THE MOMENT EVERYTHING SHATTERED
“Oh God… please, don’t stop!”
That was the first thing Victoria heard when she opened her bedroom door.
"f**k me harder, baby," she heard again.
At first, she thought she was hearing wrong. Maybe the TV was on, or maybe she was dreaming.
But when she stepped inside, she almost dropped dead from what she saw.
Her sister and her own fiancée were together in the room she had decorated a wedding.
Flowers, and on the same bed she and Daniel had picked out together. The white dress she
Would wear tomorrow was still hung on the wall. And there, right beside it, her fiancée, Daniel
Was pressed against her sister, their bodies tangled with their chests heaving from God knows
How many rounds.
For a second, her brain refused to understand what her eyes were seeing. The man who had
Promised to love her forever, he was touching her sister as if she meant nothing.
Her lips parted, but no words came out.
The phone she had come back to pick up slipped from her hand and hit the floor. The sound
Echoed through the room as everything froze for a while.
Daniel turned, his shirt halfway off and his face pale. Her sister gasped as she pulled the
Bedsheet around herself.
“Victoria...” Daniel started.
She took a step back, shaking her head.
“Don’t.”
“Please, I can explain...”
Of course, an explanation. It's just like in movies where there's an explanation for the slightest
Selfless act.
“There’s nothing to explain,” she said with her voice trembling.
“You were, you really... really were supposed to marry me tomorrow...” her voice shook as she
talked.
Tears filled her eyes, but she refused to cry. Not in front of them and not when her whole world
had just fallen apart.
She turned toward the door. Daniel jumped off the bed and ran after her, still fumbling with his
shirt.
“Victoria, wait! It’s not what you think!”
She spun around, obviously angry and irritated by whatever he had to say.
“Then what is it, Daniel? Tell me what I’m thinking wrong!”
He reached for her hand, but she slapped it away.
“Don’t touch me!”
“Please, baby, listen...”
“Don’t call me that!” Her voice cracked, but her eyes stayed fierce.
“You already used that word with her.”
Daniel froze with guilt written all over his face.
Victoria took a deep breath and opened the door. The rain was pouring outside, but she stepped
Into it without looking back.
Her sister called after her, crying, but Victoria didn’t stop. She kept going in the rain.
She got into her car, her hands shaking as she started the engine. She didn’t know where to go
And she just knew she couldn’t stay there anymore.
The wipers moved back and forth, but the road was blurry and the rain was too heavy, her eyes
Also were already welled up with tears.
She drove fast with her heart pounding as memories of Daniel’s smile flashed through her head;
His promises, their laughter, and the ring he had slipped on her finger.
They were all lies, all of it.
The car skidded slightly as she turned onto the main road. She didn’t even care.
Then suddenly, with the headlights. A black SUV cut across the road.
Victoria slammed the brakes, but it was too late. Her car hit the side of the SUV with a loud
crash.
The air filled with the smell of smoke and the smell of burning rubber as her heart almost
Jumped into her throat.
She pushed the door open and stepped out, still drenched in rain, and her hair sticking to her
face.
Three men stepped out of the SUV, they were all in black.
One of them moved forward, maintaining eye contact with her. He was tall and very
muscular. His shirt had three loose buttons that showed a part of the tattoo on his well-built chest.
He had blue eyes that could make any girl fall deeply with them, with his black curly hair styled
To the back.
He is Luciano Moretti.
He looked at the dent in his car, then at her.
“You’ve got guts,” he said with his deep voice.
“No one hits my car and walks away.”
Victoria’s lips parted. Her voice came out small, but steady.
“Then kill me.”
He blinked. “What?”
“Go ahead,” she said, tears mixing with the rain.
“I’ve lost everything anyway.”
The men behind him exchanged glances, surprised. But Luciano’s eyes stayed on her. He
Looked at her long enough to see the pain in her eyes as she cried, just like she was just looking
For an excuse to break down.
He smirked.
“You’re either crazy or brave. I’m not sure which one I like more.”
Victoria didn’t answer. She stood there, with her chest rising and falling.
Luciano took a step closer, close enough for her to see the faint scar across his jaw.
“Get in,” he said.
“What?”
“My car,” he said simply. “You owe me a story.”
“I don’t owe anyone anything.”
“You do now,” he said with a faint smile. “You hit the wrong man tonight.”
Victoria stared at him, and she didn’t know why, but something in his voice made her still.
For a moment, she thought about walking away. But she had nowhere to go, no one to run to,
Nothing left to lose.
So she opened the car door and got in.
Luciano gave a small nod, then followed as the car pulled away.
Victoria stared out the window, her hands trembling slightly. She didn’t ask where they were.
Going, she didn’t even care.
They drove in silence as the city lights blurred as they passed through the rain.
Victoria stared out the window, her mind empty.
But as she glanced sideways, she saw the gun tucked under his jacket. Her stomach tightened.
Then, suddenly, Luciano’s phone buzzed and he answered it,
“Change of plans,” he said, and immediately pressed harder on the accelerator.
“Hold on tight,” he muttered.
The tires screeched as the car sped through the rain, faster and faster than a black SUV.
Appeared in the mirror, following them closely.
Victoria’s heart pounded. She gripped the seat belt with both hands, realizing she had just
Climbed into a stranger’s car.
A stranger who might get them both killed.
