Chapter 1: The Surprise.
“Are you excited?” My best friend Nora asked while making up my hair
“I think the right word you should use is palpitating,” I replied with a smirk on my face.
“You know you shouldn't, right?” She said.
“I mean he could just tell me…” A call from Christian interrupted our conversation.
“Speaking of whom…” She said, teasing me slightly.
“Hey babe, are you done with your dress and makeup?” Christian asked, sounding romantic and seductive as usual.
“Almost,” I replied.
“Okay, the driver will come pick you up once you are ready,” he said.
“You know you can come to pick me up yourself, right?” I said, sounding babyish hoping that would change his mind.
“And where is the fun in that? That would completely ruin the surprise. I mean, in as much as I know, you are dying to know what the surprise is, all you have to do is to be patient. In less than an hour, you will get all your questions answered.” He said jokingly.
“Okay fine!” I replied, knowing he wouldn't change his mind.
“Love you babe!” He said just before I ended the call.
“Why can't he just tell me what the surprise is all about? I mean I don't even know the venue,” I said, talking to Nora who was doing the final touches on my makeup.
“Relax babe, you know Christian. All he is after is to make you happy, and I am sure whatever he is planning will blow your mind. I mean you look hot for him already.” She added as I texted Christian that I was ready.
“Bye babe, have fun!” She said as the driver opened the car door for me.
“Sure, and you too!” I replied as the driver drove off.
The past year of my life has been nothing but fun and blissful. I mean, since Christian came into my life.
I met Christian right after I graduated from college. I had to start searching for internship roles to take care of my needs. The first company I applied to was ‘The Grey' Conglomerate.
I had applied for the position of financial secretary considering what I had studied in school, and I was looking forward to the interview hoping to accept whatever the turnout would be. If there was one thing I have gotten accustomed to over the years, it is rejection and not to expect too much from anyone.
“You are all welcome. The CEO will be joining you all soon. Good luck!.” A male figure in his late twenties said, and I could tell that he was the CEO's assistant.
Shortly after, the CEO came in, who was none other than Christian Grey. The moment he came in, his piercing blue eyes met with my hazel ones and I quickly looked away. All I was after was getting this job, so I could pay my bills which were already piling up on me.
“I have gone through all of your resumes and only one person is disqualified for this role,” he stated.
I felt a lump in my throat when he said that, and I could also tell that the other candidates were all palpitating as much as I was.
He looked at every one of us like he was trying to figure out what was going through our minds.
“You are Sinclair Sarah?” He asked, breaking me off from my deep thoughts.
“Uh yes.” He responded as I sat upright trying to avoid eye contact with him.
“I am sorry, you lost the job.” He said, sounding indifferent about it.
“But…”
“However, you can apply to my close friend's company, your credentials would definitely get you the position.” He said interrupting me half way.
“Uh, thank you, sir,” I said with a broad smile on my face. At least, I had option B to work with.
“All the necessary details will be forwarded to your email address and you can go see him tomorrow . Congratulations once again.” Christian said as he stretched his hands for a handshake.
“Thank you, sir,” I said as I reciprocated the gesture.
I resumed work the next day after getting all the details in my mailbox and that was when I found out Mr Christian is almost twice my age. It's okay to say he is my father's mate, and he doesn't look like it. But then, I reminded myself that was not my business in any way.
My first day at work changed my entire story and that was when my love story began with Christian. Apparently, his friend's company is not far from his, so I would always see him on my way from work, and he would always offer to drop me off. At first, it seemed coincidental, but then it became deliberate as I would see him almost every day.
After that day, I could see that he was making advances towards me, but I knew dating someone twice my age was abominable. I mean according to society's stereotypes.
Christian chased me, wooed me, and now, I was more than halfway in love with him.
He recommended me for the job at his friend's firm as consolation for not hiring me. His reason for not hiring me was, according to him,"Because he knew he wanted me from the start and a workplace romance was frowned on."
I've never dated anyone like Christian in my young life. Not only was he forty-two years old and seventeen years my senior. But he was caring and attentive, understanding and had a wicked sense of humor.
At first, I was unsure about dating him, but he was consistent and intentional. I honestly didn't know when I started looking forward to these calls at the end of each day and his gifts at the middle of the day.
I finally gave in when all that was holding me back was societal pressure. What would people say?
So, one date turned into two and then into weekends together, and now we have been together for a year. I know his wife is late, and he never mentioned anything about having any other family and I decided to respect that.
“You should give him a chance, Sarah,” Nora said, convincing me to look past the age gap and have fun.
“He is…”
“Hot and sexy, and he is kind towards you. Anyone could tell that he cares about you. Besides, he doesn't even look his age.” She interrupted me, knowing fully well what I was about to say.
In as much as he was older than me, he had showered me with nothing but love and care and I loved him with every fiber of my being.
“Miss Sarah, we have gotten to the destination.” The driver announced, breaking me off from my deep thoughts.
“Oh, thank you,” I said as I alighted with Christian already waiting to receive me.
The venue was nothing short of luxury, which made me gasp in awe, wondering what Christian was up to this time. Staring at him from afar has raised a desire in me already. I could feel my pants getting wet down there just looking at him. Not only does he have a sexy demi-god body and breathtaking looks, but his charisma is enough to sweep me off my feet.
“Christian…”
“I love you Sarah and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” He interrupted me with a deep passionate kiss while caressing my hair.
“I love you…”
“Will you marry me?” He said while still staring into my eyes. All I could see in his eyes was love, care, and affection like never before. All I could think of was the fact that I had found my whole world right in front of me and I would make sure nothing took him away from me.
“Yes, I would over and over again,” I replied as I leaped at him in joy.
“This is just the beginning of the surprise.” He said as he carried me in, sweeping me off my feet.
“I love every bit of this and yes, it is indeed worth the surprise,” I said, beaming with excitement.
“I am glad you are happy. But there is something I want to tell you.” He said, sounding serious.
“Is there anything I don't know about you already?” I said, teasing him.
“Yes,” he replied.
“Okay… tell me, what is it?” I asked, sensing his seriousness.
“I have a son.” He said, then paused for a while to see my reaction.
“You have a son?” I repeated.
“Yes, I do.” He reaffirmed.
“Okay, I am not surprised. I mean it's expected.” I said, making no big deal out of it.
“And I think you should meet him because you will be my wife very soon,” he said.
“I am fine with it as long as he accepts me as his father's wife,” I said, trying to lighten up the atmosphere.
“Of course he will.” He said, bringing out his cell phone.
“His name is Andy Grey. This is his picture. He will be flying in tonight," he said.
“W-h-at?” I gasped in shock as I saw the picture of his son, who was none other than my ex-boyfriend Andy Grey.
