His Darkest Obsession

Prologue
(Emily's POV)
If there was anything I knew about powerful men like Ryan Carter, it was that they didn’t love. They owned. They controlled.
And now, as I stood in the middle of his empire, I couldn’t help but wonder if I was walking straight into my own destruction.
Because Ryan Carter had the kind of darkness that didn’t just swallow you whole — it marked you forever.
What he didn’t know was that I wasn’t here for the paycheck.
I was here to ruin him.
But the dangerous glint in his eyes whenever he looked at me? The way my heart betrayed me with every stolen glance?
That was the part I hadn't prepared for.
Because falling for him was never part of my plan.
And yet, as his voice echoed in my head, deep and possessive, I realized I might be in more danger than I thought.
"You’re mine now, Emily. Whether you like it or not."

Chapter One: The First Encounter
(Emily's POV)
I adjusted my blazer nervously as I stepped into the towering glass building of Carter Enterprises, feeling small and completely out of place.
The heels I borrowed from my best friend clicked on the polished marble, and I swallowed hard, forcing myself to walk tall, even as I felt the weight of every luxury screaming that I didn’t belong here.
Focus, Emily. You have a mission.
I was here for answers — for revenge.
"First day?" a sweet voice pulled me from my thoughts.
I turned to see a woman, perfectly dressed, offering me a kind smile.
"Yeah... am I that obvious?"
She laughed softly. "We’ve all been there. I’m Jasmine, Mr. Carter’s assistant. I’ll take you to him now."
My stomach twisted.
"To him?"
Jasmine nodded. "You’ll be working directly under Mr. Carter. He’s... intense. But if you keep your head down, you’ll survive."
Her words weren’t comforting.
Inside the elevator, I caught my reflection in the mirrored walls. I didn’t look like I belonged here — but that was fine.
I wasn’t here to belong.
I was here to win.
When the doors opened, Jasmine gave me a sympathetic glance.
"Good luck. You’ll need it."
And then I was alone.
Taking a deep breath, I raised my hand to knock on his office door — but before I could—
"Come in."
The voice was low, commanding.
I pushed the door open, and the moment our eyes met, my world tilted.
He was nothing like I expected. More dangerous. More powerful. More... magnetic.
His icy blue eyes locked onto mine, and I felt frozen in place.
"You’re late," he said, standing from behind his desk, towering and sharp like a blade.
"I’m early," I answered, forcing my voice to stay steady.
His lips curved into a smirk, but there was nothing kind about it.
"In my world, you’re late."
I swallowed, meeting his gaze.
"Then maybe you need a new world."
For a moment, something dark flickered in his eyes — like I had intrigued him.
Or like he wanted to break me.
Either way, this was going to be much harder than I thought.
---
(Ryan’s POV)
She wasn’t what I expected.
When I read her file, I thought she’d be like every other assistant — desperate to please, scared to breathe wrong.
But as she stood in front of me, chin high, fire in her eyes, I realized Emily Morgan was different.
Dangerously different.
Her curves were hidden beneath that cheap suit, but her eyes — damn, her eyes — burned like she was holding back a storm.
I smirked, circling her slowly, watching her stiffen under my gaze.
"I don’t tolerate lateness," I said, just to see her reaction.
She didn’t flinch. "Then fire me."
My smirk grew. Brave. Stupid.
"Why would I fire you?" I stepped closer, close enough to smell her soft perfume — something sweet, something that didn’t belong in my world.
"I like a challenge."
She glared at me, and for a second, I almost laughed.
Most women in this city would kill for a second of my attention. But not her.
No. Emily Morgan wanted to bite back.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
"Jasmine will show you where to sit," I said finally, watching her carefully as she turned to leave.
"But Miss Morgan?"
She froze. "Yes?"
I smiled darkly.
"I always win."
She shot me a glare over her shoulder. "Maybe you’ve never played with someone like me."
And with that, she was gone.
I stared at the door long after she left, a strange heat settling in my chest.
What are you hiding, Emily Morgan?
Because now that I had seen her, now that she had walked into my world —
I wasn’t going to let her walk out.
