his darkest obsession by Favy Cute 🥰 --- Episode 3: A Game of Power (Emily’s POV) If Ryan Carter was the king of this empire, then I was just another piece on his chessboard. And the way he was looking at me right now? I wasn’t sure if he wanted to protect me, own me, or destroy me. "Miss Morgan," he said, voice smooth as sin, "have dinner with me tonight." I froze. My brain scrambled for a response, but my mouth had other ideas. "I don’t date my boss." His smirk was slow, dangerous. "Who said anything about a date?" I clenched my jaw. Of course. This was a game to him. A test. He wanted to see if I’d break. I grabbed my notepad, forcing my hands to stay steady. "I’m busy." He stepped closer, lowering his voice. "Too busy to obey Rule #4?" I exhaled sharply. "I never lied to you." His eyes darkened. "Then prove it. Have dinner with me." I wanted to say no. I should have said no. But the truth was, if I wanted to destroy him, I needed to get closer. So I lifted my chin and said the most dangerous words of my life. "Fine. But don’t expect me to be impressed." --- (Ryan’s POV) She thinks this is her choice. That’s what made it interesting. Emily Morgan wasn’t like the others. She didn’t beg for my attention. She didn’t crumble under my stare. She challenged me. And I had never wanted anyone more. That night, I booked a private rooftop table at one of the most exclusive restaurants in the city. I didn’t tell her where we were going—just sent a driver. When she arrived, I was already waiting. And when she stepped onto the rooftop, the city lights reflecting in her eyes, I felt something twist inside me. She was beautiful. Infuriatingly, breathtakingly beautiful. But it wasn’t just her looks. It was the fire in her. The way she refused to play by my rules. And I wanted to break her just to see if she would let me. She sat down, crossing her arms. "Let’s get this over with." I chuckled, pouring her a glass of wine. "Relax, Miss Morgan. It’s just dinner." She snorted. "With you? Nothing is just anything." Smart girl. But she had no idea how right she was. --- (Emily’s POV) The view was stunning. The food was perfect. And yet, all I could focus on was him. Ryan Carter was too close, too intense, too… much. "Tell me something, Emily," he murmured, sipping his drink. "Why did you really take this job?" My heart stopped. I forced a smirk. "Because I needed a job?" His lips curved, but his eyes? They were like a predator’s—watching, waiting. "Liar," he said smoothly. My fingers curled around my glass. I needed to change the subject—fast. So I did the first thing that came to mind. I leaned in, resting my elbow on the table. "Tell me something, Ryan. Why do you always have to be in control?" Something flickered in his gaze. Something dark. Then, before I could react, he reached out—slow, deliberate—and traced his fingers along my wrist. My breath caught. "Because power is everything," he murmured. "And I don’t like losing." The air between us thickened. My pulse raced. I needed to move. I needed to get out of here. But his grip on my wrist tightened—just enough to make me still. "Be careful, Emily," he whispered, his thumb brushing my skin. "You don’t want to play this game with me." I swallowed hard, staring into his stormy blue eyes. Too late. Because somehow, without even realizing it, I had already started playing. And I wasn’t sure I could stop. --- End of Episode 3
