Episode 5: The Tension Breaks
(Emily’s POV)
The air felt thick. Suffocating.
Ryan stood in front of me, sharp and unreadable, but there was something else in his eyes. A storm brewing.
Noah, on the other hand?
He looked amused. Like he knew exactly how to push Ryan’s buttons—and planned to do it.
I swallowed hard. This is bad.
"She said she’s busy," Noah said smoothly, leaning back in his chair. "You got a problem with that?"
Ryan didn’t blink. "Yeah. I do."
The tension snapped.
Noah smirked. "Let me guess. You don’t like when people tell you no."
Ryan’s jaw tightened. "I don’t like when people waste my time."
I needed to stop this before it got worse.
I stood up, placing a hand on Ryan’s arm—only to immediately regret it.
His muscles were tight beneath my fingers. Coiled. Ready to strike.
"Ryan, let’s just go," I whispered.
His gaze flickered down to where I touched him. A slow, dark smirk curled on his lips.
Shit.
That was the wrong move.
Because now?
Now, he knew I was trying to defuse him. And he loved it.
Ryan took a step closer to Noah, his presence looming. "I don’t know who you are, and I don’t care."
Noah chuckled. "Oh, I think you care, Carter."
Ryan tilted his head, his smirk sharpening. "I’ll give you one warning—stay out of my way."
Noah didn’t even flinch. Instead, he leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table.
"You know," he mused, "guys like you always think they own everything. Money, power… people." His gaze flicked to me. "But the thing is, Ryan, you can’t own something that doesn’t belong to you."
Ryan went still.
The smirk faded. The amusement vanished.
And in its place?
A cold, terrifying silence.
I sucked in a breath. "Okay, that’s enough."
Noah pushed back his chair. "C’mon, Em. Let’s get out of here."
Ryan grabbed my wrist before I could move.
Possessive. Unyielding. A silent threat.
I froze.
"She’s not going anywhere with you," Ryan said, voice dangerously soft.
Noah’s expression hardened. "Let go of her."
I had to stop this. I wrenched my hand away, stepping between them.
"Enough!" I snapped. "I’m not some prize for you two to fight over."
Ryan’s gaze darkened. "Aren’t you?"
My stomach twisted. "No, Ryan. I’m not."
Noah scoffed. "See? That’s where you messed up. You think you can control her."
Ryan’s eyes flickered with something unreadable. "And you think she doesn’t want to be?"
The words sent a shiver down my spine.
I needed to leave. Now.
So I turned my back on Ryan Carter for the first time—ignoring the way it made my skin crawl—and grabbed Noah’s hand.
"Let’s go."
I didn’t dare look back.
Because if I did?
I’d see the way Ryan was watching me.
Like he was losing control.
Like he was about to burn the whole world down just to prove a point.

(Ryan’s POV)
I watched her walk away.
With him.
And for the first time in my life, I felt something sharp and ugly coil in my chest.
Jealousy.
Rage.
Obsession.
Emily Morgan had just challenged me.
And she didn’t even realize it.
But she would.
Oh, she would.
Because this wasn’t over.
Not by a long shot.
