Lily hadn't changed a bit. She was as cheerful and hospitable as ever. Childbirth did not make her less agile, too. I didn't know what I expected. Her buoyant mood and spiritedness were rather impressive.
No one could easily tell that she'd just gone through the ordeal of labour. A new mother of twins. She didn't care that my primary reason for visiting was not the kids.
As she pulled me in for a heartfelt hug, her mate took the box from me. It was filled with toys and sassy socks and onesies, picked out in a rush by the sales attendant. I secretly prayed the couple didn't laugh at me once they saw what was inside.
