I could feel my temperature rising as I watched the moon serenely glide up the night sky, the dark clouds making it look gloomy. I tried to ignore the sting I feel all where my skin is in contact with the chain, but I couldn't. It felt like being stabbed by a thousand sharp knives.
I looked down from looking at the moon to look at Mason, He had this worry on his face like all this wasn't even going to be close to success.
"Jake! I know you can hear me". He said through his mind. "I want you to know that whatever happens here, I'm not leaving you". It felt like he wanted to move closer so he can pat my back but he thought against it.
My temperature kept soaring, and I was beginning to worry, I had to kill the worry by telling myself this was all normal to werewolves when they first begin to change. Not at all very convincing but I had to hold on to that thought, and reminded myself for the dozenth time that everything will be fine. Even as I made an end to bringing that up in my mind, I knew everything wasn't. It all stopped being fine when I got bitten and will continue not to being fine till I die.
"Mason!". I finally said, tearing myself away from the wave of thoughts that was going to drown me. "Mind finding water for me?". "Sure buddie". He said and was about to leave when he stopped dead halfway and looked hard at me. "Huh, Jake are you okay?".
"That's a funny type of question to ask in this present situation bro, what's wrong?". I asked him, not liking the fear he was giving off.
"Huh... The color of your eyes, it's changing". He said
"It changes before, when I'm angry or when my wolf is at the surface". I replied him fixing my eyes back to the moon.
"I know bro, and I don't mean that kind of change. It's switching like crazy between different colors and it's glowing". He said confused.
"This wasn't recorded in the books I've read so far".
"What do you mean Mason?". I asked angrily and tried to move closer to him, forgetting my restraint, only to be reminded by thevwaves of pain caused when the chains bit deeply into my skin. "Calm down bro, don't worry, after all this, we'll find answers". Mason said, unsure.
I calmed myself by thinking of the happy memories I had with Rose, and patiently waited for what was next. Mason left me immediately for the water when he saw I no longer wanted to say anything.
The first wave of real pain came when I no longer thought I would expect it, it felt like my bones were about to be dug out and broken. Then my hand snapped backward. I couldn't hold back the scream that escaped my mouth. Then the other snapped too, followed by my legs.
Slowly I found myself slipping into Oblivion, it actually felt great, the pain too much for my body and soul to bear was tearing us apart. I tried communicating with my wolf but I couldn't feel him. From a distance I could hear faint shout from a familiar voice. A voice I couldn't miss anywhere. It was Mason calling me not to go. He poured water over me, but in the state I was, I couldn't feel it. I looked around me and found out I was in a different place entirely, but above me, I could faintly see how Mason was trying to revive me.
Took a quick glance at my body and had to look away, my arms and legs were bent in an unusual direction from the way it was supposed to be. I decided to explore the new place I found myself. The surrounding was so breathtaking. The walls were made of shiny clear crystal, the type that reflects my image to infinity around me.
Then. . . Something distracted me, I thought I felt a movement somewhere ahead of me, and drew closer to whatever it was. I heard the soft sounds of footsteps across marble. And was shocked by what I saw as I peeped to scout the bend ahead of me.
There in front of me was the most beautiful lady I've ever laid my eyes on. She was adorned with apparel that looked transparent, but you can't see through. On her head was a crown shaped like a crescent moon, hear hair was also adorned with stuffs that glows like the stars. On her left hand was a scepter. It looked like it wasn't crafted by any man at all, but by God himself. I strained my eyes to look at her right hand and discovered to my greatest horror she was patting a very big beast, it didn't look anything like a wolf because this beast before me was standing on it's two hind legs.
The beast kept purring as she continued her patting, and made it look like I wasn't even there at all. I tried turning back, but it felt like I had forgotten how to coordinate my nerves to work on it's accord again, I couldn't move away from the spot where I stayed glued.
"Well. . . Look who we've got here Jake". She said without even as much as raise her head to look at me. I was guessing she was talking to the beast. My assumption was right when She called the beast again by Jake.
"Seems Jake here wasn't as tough for you as we thought he would be". She said removing herself from beside the beast and moving closer to me.
"Who are you?". I asked her
"I'm your worst nightmare". She said smirking but with seriousness in her tone and eyes.
"Huh?". I stuttered believing her.
"I'm the Moon Goddess Stupid". She said finally betraying her earlier seriousness.
"Ohhh..., Nice to meet you Moon Goddess, but if my hands and legs weren't stiffened, I would have curtsied well". I said, not sure of where the sarcasm was coming from. All I know is right here, right now, I feel a kind of peace I've long forgotten existed.
She laughed and turned to look at me, and then she looked up at the screen like projection of my body where it was, in the wood. "Jake, you have to go back, you're far more important to the supernatural world than you know".
She said with such sweetness that it was impossible for my heart not to melt and my brain not to process what she's said.
"What do you mean by I'm more important to the supernatural that I know off".
"I wasn't even born one, I'm a circumstances of mistake, I didn't ask for all these that's happening to me". I was saying to her, boiling from the inside.
Her smile never faltered as I kept on at it. Till finally she hushed me up. "There's a lot of truth for you to find out Jake, and this you won't do alone. I've assigned someone with you that will help you unravel the truth and save the supernatural world and the human world alike. . . Because a war is coming, and it's going to be disastrous if you're not fighting in it".
"Erm. . ." I was about to say but got hushed back.
"Great powers lies in you Jake, find the one I assigned to you and you'll unlock them, and now you have to go". She finished off.
"Go?, Go where? ". I asked not wanting to leave here though.
"You're returning back to the surface Jake, that's where you belong, fight the shift and be strong. I've always believed you can make it". She finished and planted a kiss on my forehead. I'm definitely not washing that off for a long time.
"But before you leave I have a little something to give you". She beckoned to the beast and it came to her like a little kitten would do when being called. "Jake, meet Jake. . . This is your beast form, it got severed from you when you decided to give up on it".
I looked at the towering beast, too scared to believe what I'm seeing, so this had been the wolfie thing that has been staying inside of me. I looked at the Moon Goddess and she smiled back at me. Such smile could make you forget all about yourself.
"I'm ready now". I said it not really concious of me saying it. But something deep inside of me kept on telling me it's okay to go now. I smiled back at her and watched as she placed her left hand on the beast bowed head and the other one on my head. I saw before I could see more a blinding light envelope I and the beast.
Mason's POV
It's been close to 3 hours that Jake has passed out, but what kept baffling me was that his body was still transforming, in a very slow and alarming rate, I'd guessed if the shifting doesn't kill him, the pain would.
I kinda like was happy he passed out though, wouldn't want him going through all these pains. I kept the bag of Ice I had gone to fetch earlier when his temperature rose incredible high close to his temple.
"I'd better change this one, it's melting already". I thought and dragged the cooler of Ice I'd dragged back with me.
"Jake, don't leave me here, I know you can make it buddie, I know you can". I said changing the ice bag.
I moved away from him a little bit when I discovered his size increasing, and then I heard it.
The leaves around started ruffling and they were followed by light thuds, twas all so familiar except that this wasn't the sound of one beast, but the sound of about 3 to 4 beast approaching.
I stood guard over Jake's body, not sure myself of what I was going to do if I was attacked. And then, the first beast emerged from behind a tree with thick bough and stood on it's two hind legs, it stared hard into my eyes and gave a blood curling howl and almost froze my nerves.
The others came out from where they had stayed hidden and walked on their two hind legs forward to where the first beast stood. They all had matching glowing eyes, twas like liquid orange flames. I took up the closest thing to a weapon I found beside me and braced myself for what was coming.
And then they charged. . .
The first one to get to me, tasted a little of my wrath as I clobbered it on it's big ugly head and I discovered too late that it only angered it the more as it hit me square in my tommy and send me flying some considerably distance in the hair. The last thing I saw was the rest of the beast cutting out Jake's restraint with great difficulty and shoving him in a big expandable sack. It felt like I was still floating in the air in slow motion till gravity decided to come play too and drag me down real hard to the ground and I blacked out.
