"Charles"... Alpha Xavier called through the pack mind link.
"Yes Alpha!". He replied back
"I need you in my office right now".
"Okay, Alpha, I'll be there with you soon".
There He was, thinking of what the evening was going to bring. Never had a bitten human survive their first turn into a Lycan without turning rogue. That is if he/she, the bitten didn't die from the shift. Even born werewolves all have tough time during their first shift into their wolves. First is the increased temperature that runs for an hour or two, followed by the painful placing of the bone morphing into that of a Lycan.
*Knock knock*
The knock on the door distracted him from his chain of thought, he quickly arranged the books on table well enough to make an impression on who's coming. Not like he couldn't tell the person from the scent they gave. But he's still got to make that impression.
"Come in, Charles". He said after arranging everything well.
"You are not going to stand there all day are you?". He asked after properly making sure the table looks impressive enough.
"How far have you gone about the new Lycan already?. He added eyeing a mantelpiece on his shelf of books.
"Sir, I think he's contained sir, but..."
"But, what's the 'but' there?". Alpha Xavier asked a little worried and now in full concentration.
"Sir... He possess some unique power we don't sir". Charles said shaking.
"And what could that be?".
"Sir, he can read and communicate through minds". A shaking Charles said.
"You mean he can read minds, not like we communicate through our pack link?"
"Yessir, he spoke to me using his mind, seems like he can hear everything you think up in your head sir". Charles added
Not sure of how to take in the news, Xavier rose up from his seat, paced around his office and finally decided to take notice of an antique he'd place in his office. The carving of the moon goddess, a gift to him from his mother, the former Luna.
"Why hadn't he noticed it till now". He thought to himself.
"But you know that's impossible". He finally said, after finding his voice.
"Our likes aren't given the ability to read or communicate through mind. . . It's strange he can". He finished off.
"If you want me to keep monitoring him, I will sir". Charles said still bowing his head down.
"There is not much need for that again, seeing tonight is the night of the full moon". Xavier said
"I just want you to keep an eye on him when he shifts, and if he shows any sign of dying yet, end his life before he does, okay?".
"And if also he shows sign of turning rogue, you have my permission to take him down". Xavier added, pausing to weigh his word.
"Yessir!". Charles answered turning to leave but stopped.
"Sir, I found my mate sir". Charles said a little afraid of what the Alpha was going to say.
"A good thing. . . But let it not disturb your assignment". Xavier replied absent minded
Not sure of what to say anymore, Charles left is Alpha's office, hoping to find his quad nearby.
???????
Meanwhile...
"Mason, you'll have to work faster than you're doing if you want to meet up". Jake said breaking the silent between them on their way to the woods.
"Don't worry bro, I'll catch up with you sooner". Mason said uninterested.
Jake had to stop and face him. "Buddie, if this has got to work, you have got to do more than put up a sullen face".
"Fine. . . I'm coming". Mason finally said and half jogged to meet Jake.
We both walked to a very big tree, located almost at the heart of the woods. Mason went forward and inspected it closely, not trusting the strength of the tree.
"Is it okay?". I asked him.
"You know it's not the tree I'm scared of anymore, my new fear is if the chain will hold you enough not to make you cause any harm".
"Uhm. . . One only way to find out is to try it first". I replied, not sure myself.
Somewhere outside the woods...
"Shh shh".
"Don't make any sound". Alexa half whispered to her clique.
"Remind me why we need to sneak up to Jake's house again". Rose asked quite uneasy.
"I want to know what he's up to, he's been acting strange these few days". Alexa answered between gritted teeth not hiding her displeasure at Rose for acting uninterested.
"Okay. . . It's not like it would bring you gain though". Rose said not meeting Alexa's anger visible face.
"Can't we be quiet gals?"
"We're almost at his porch"
"So it's best if you stop the jibbering". Amanda hissed into their ears causing them to go quiet, but left Alexa defiant, cause of her dislike of being told what to do. The other girls just had to look down to avoid contact with Alexa's eyes.
The five of them stopped at Jake's house, they scanned the surrounding before climbing over the picket fence into the backyard.
"Why would he leave his window open?". Melisanda spoke first after noticing one of the windows to Jake's bedroom ajar.
The rest just had to shrug, not knowing what to say, none wanted to betray their fear of being out late at night.
"Why not search around for something to climb up there?". Alexa half instructed her clique.
They searched around and found a ladder. But then came the silent argument about who was going to climb up to Jake's bedroom to do the investigation.
"Rose, you go". Alexa said it too fast before realizing what she's said. But Rose didn't complain but agreed to climb up the ladder to Jake's room. She did so with little flourish.
"No problem Lexie...". Rose said even when she knew Alexa doesn't like being called that.
Rose balanced the ladder quietly without the slightest noise with the help of the others though and started her ascent up the ladder. Halfway up the ladder she just stood there and stared hard into the woods, thinking she saw something move very fast there. She shrugged it off and continued her climb up.
"Might be a dog though". She thought to herself
Finally getting up and about to help herself into Jake's bedroom, she heard a distant howl, followed my more and more howls. She peeked her head out of the window and inspected the sky.
"Hmmm... Full moon, why didn't I notice that since". She thought to herself.
"That's what making the dogs howl". She smiled at the discovery in her mind.
As she was about to settle down on Jake's bed and scan her surrounding, she heard footsteps somewhere inside the house advancing towards her direction. She sat still controlling her breath not sure of what to do. Abruptly the footstep stopped right in front of Jake's bedroom, followed by a knock.
"Jay darling, are you in". A voice she realized belongs to Jake's mom Mrs Robertson sounded outside the door.
Not sure of what to do Rose simply just sat there, her heart beating like crazy in her chest. She thought of alighting down the stairs again and running for it. Then an idea lit up in her head. She simply covered herself with Jake's blanket and spoke into the pillow.
"Yes mom". Her muffled voice sounded back.
"Okay dear, just checking on you, just heard on the news of wolves sighting close to the woods, please close your windows okay?". Mrs Robertson said.
"Okay mom, I'll do just that".
"Goodnight". Rose muffled voice replied
"Goodnight sweetheart". Mrs Robertson answered back and left for her own room.
Relief flooded into Rose's system as soon as she heard the door to Mrs Robertson room closed. As soon as everything became still again, she hurriedly left the room through the window and down the ladder she came. As soon as she came down the ladder, she noticed the rest weren't close by and started panicking again until she heard someone call her name faintly.
She traced the voice down to the hedge just a few feet from the ladder.
"We thought you'd gotten yourself caught". Melisanda was the first to speak.
"Twas a close one though". Rose replied back.
"I'll tell you all about it on our way out of here". Rose said hastily wanting to leave there as soon as possible.
They all clambered out of the hedge, over the fence and quietly left the same way they came, except that this time, they aren't arguing but listening as Rose told them of her little encounter with Mrs Robertson.
