Venice Alcen's Point of View
"I'm sorry, Jax, but I can't make it today," I softly said to him over the phone. Well, after we talked about the 'comeback thingy', he wants me to go back to him. Of course, I didn't agree with it even though he wanted it, but he begged me to give him six months and if I still didn't want him back, he would let me go forever.
There's an emergency. And even if I didn't want to go, there's no excuse to return to the other world which is where I truly belong.
I heard him sigh on the other line. "Please, baby, everything was settled. Don't dump me," he said. I sensed the sadness in his voice.
"Val, let's go. We will be late!" Alfen shouted while staring at me. I just gave him a nod before he immediately ran to the mirror that serves as a portal to the other world. The mirror was placed in our house.
"Coming!" I communicated through a mind link before he jumped down to the mirror. I hurriedly responded to Ajax.
"I'm sorry about this, Jax, but I need to end the call, bye!" I stated while staring at the clock that was hanging onto the wall.
"But—" he said, but I ended the call before he could even finish.
I just sighed before jumping into the mirror to see the other world. Unfortunately, we have to visit our grandparent's house every once a month.
We already visited last week, but there is a special meeting today and I need all the members of my family there.
I felt my toes landing on the ground and got shocked when I wandered my eyes around. Everything is in mess.
The trees were torn down like there's a storm that happened here. There's a fire ranging from beyond. What happened?
It's like the portal has brought me to the wrong place. What a trouble.
The portal is the one that will decide which place you're going to. I'm not bragging about this, but the one who invented that mirror is me and this is the first time that my invention neglected my thoughts.
I saw an eagle's body with a cobra's head and a large ostrich bird flying in the air. It's called black-winged Amaron and considered dangerous for the vampires.
"Damn, he's looking at me!" I quickly jumped from the tree and removed my seal. I met its fangs and banged its neck.
I crashed its bones until it turned into ashes.
"Come back if you still can!" I weakly murmured before sucking the smoke from it.
I felt my fangs for a second, but I hid them before someone could see them.
We are not just hunters, but also survivors.
We kill other creatures to survive and prevent ourselves from danger. Nevertheless, not all harmful species were intentionally being hunted, some were just like this, which happened by chance and simple coincidence.
Amaron meant survival. If you got a chance to face them, you have no choice but to kill, or else you will be killed.
All vampires have endless lives, but once Amaron attacks and you unluckily get a bite, it will shorten your lifespan in a snap and die.
Gladly, I trained myself.
I heard someone clap his hands behind and I saw two, cloaked guys coming. "You just escaped death, but I bet your mate wouldn't."
I frowned. "What are you talking about?"
He smirked. "I can feel it, Venice Alcen, your mate is dying."
I quickly held him and held his neck. "Who the hell are you? What did you do to my mate?!"
"Scared?"
I hesitated to kill him.
I felt my heart beating quickly as my palms started to sweat.
Nervousness took over me because of what he said and I'm afraid that what he said was true. For Pete's sake, I haven't met my mate yet! He shouldn't die without me!
"J...j-ust speak!" I felt my knees trembling, like my lips as I tried to choke him to death.
"No, not until you show to our meet-up, young lady."
I slightly moved the thin cloth covering his face and I got a nice peek of his face.
"What the— Jax!" I jokingly said while looking at him.
He smirked. "Yes, baby, so what on Earth are you doing in my turf?"
I let go of his neck and remembered that he has no idea about what I truly am.
The fire raging in my house caught my attention, the end part of it was bright.
The elegant structures were also noticeable as if speaking its luxury due to the details it shows.
I faced him. "Where am I? Why am I here?"
"Stop pretending, Val. I know you're a vampire from the start," he said with longing in his eyes as if he waited this moment to happen for so long. "I gave you time to think," he continued, then leaned closer to embrace me with his warm hug. "Why can't you still trust me?"
My lips trembled from what he said. I couldn't move as if I was frozen because of the mixed emotions he made me feel.
"Baby," he whispered, "come back to me, please, I miss you."
I don't know what to do. There's no tear falling from my eyes, there instead was a knife stabbed in my throat. I can't even make a single response.
"Ahem!"
I pushed him away when someone from his guys faked a cough. That's when I remembered they were two guys who showed up in front of me.
"Sorry for his misbehavior, beautiful maiden," he softly said, regarding his men who are staring intently at him right now.
I angrily removed myself from his arms.
He put down the cloak he was wearing before offering his hand to me. "I am Lucas from the house of Hellscream." I could say that he has the looks that everyone wants, and he has chestnut-colored hair that complemented his pale skin and thin lips.
"Venice Alcen from the house of Bloodhoof," I responded before I accepted his hand.
He smiled at me when our hands met. His small eyes were highly noticeable when he's smiling. It's nice to stare at those even if he always looks like he's inviting a war.
I also noticed that his height is similar to Jax, they both have beautiful shapes of lips that everyone will drool over.
"Are you two blood-related?" I asked before looking at Jax who had a frowned expression painted on his face.
"Yup," he said, popping the 'P'.
I was surprised that he knelt in front of me. "And as for the tradition, allow me to kiss your hand, Ms. Venice."
I let him since it's part of the tradition of vampires to kiss a girl's hand as a form of greeting. He was about to bring my pale hand to his mouth when Jax interrupted. He pushed his cousin away and switched positions with him.
"Don't you dare, jerk!" Jax interrupted while his eyes were on fire.
I almost slapped my forehead because of what he said. What a childish attitude!
"I, Jax from the house of Hellscream, shall take his place. Accept me, baby."
He then brought the back of my hand to his warm, soft lips.
I felt the rush of blood to my cheeks as his kiss went passionate. And when he looked up, his eyes threw a dagger at his cousin who was busy laughing at his sudden possessiveness.
"I know that you both missed each other, but they're calling us to the palace, Jax."
"Alright." Jax stood up before wrapping his hand on my waist. "You will come with us." He suddenly pulled me even if I didn't let him.
"Wait, I'll go to Grandmother first." His hands roamed above my shoulder and pulled my body closer to his. I began to feel the heat when I started to feel his warm body.
"I asked them," he whispered. Because his face touched mine, I almost drowned by the heavenly breath he has.
What the Val! It's not good, you're fantasizing about this guy!
"How?"
He smirked. "Secret."
I touched his tummy, trying to pinch his sides until my nails buried in his skin.
"What is it?" I threatened him.
"Ouch!" He slightly moved his body, but he quickly leaned closer again. "Calm down, baby, I still have a promise to your grandfather."
My eyes were locked at him with anger. "Are you crazy? My grandfather was long dead."
"I mean your real grandfather here in the empire," he said while staring directly into my eyes.
"Do you think I know nothing about you?" he continued. I avoided his eyes that made my blood feel hotter than usual.
"How did you know?" I confusingly asked him while we were walking together. Lucas was leading the walk.
Suddenly, the sun touched our skins, making them glow. "I happened to know during our date on our fourth monthsary. Do you remember when I accidentally brought blood instead of red wine? There I saw your sharp fangs and beautiful eyes glowed for a few seconds." His words shocked me.
"What? So, already know and you didn't even bother to tell me?" I hissed because we were together for a long time, but he didn't say that he already knew what I am and that disappointed me.
He nodded. "I was just waiting for you to tell me the truth. All this time, I was waiting for you." He heaved a sigh before continuing. I sensed the sadness in his voice. "I can still wait, baby. I'll wait for you again."
Why does it have to be me?
Don't choose me.
"Jax," I called him while staring at his gorgeous face.
He hummed as he held my pale, cold hands. "To take you to the palace? It's a dream come true to me, baby, so thank you."
I flicked his nose, "You forced me, dumbass." I hid my smile. I missed this kind of situation like we had before.
It immediately turned red, but he chose to ignore it and he was smiling while looking at me.
"I was sad earlier." It's obvious in his voice that was just pretending. "You didn't come to see me, it's already the third time!"
There, he was now the one who flicked my forehead? I got pissed so I distanced myself from him.
"Heh! I only did that because I have a mate, Jax. You're aware of that aren't you?" I hissed because of the confusion I'm feeling.
I feel him. I feel that my mate is always watching me. I can feel his light presence, but I haven't met him yet.
He narrowed his eyes at me and pulled me to him. "Who cares? No matter how many mates come into my life, I would never trade my one and only Venice Alcen."
"Impossible," I strongly stated, but deep inside, I was touched because of what he said.
"There's nothing impossible in the vampire world, baby. Now make yourself more presentable because you're going to meet your future in-laws."
