One
I woke up in a meadow. It's dark, still, very early morning, the ground is still wet from the dew. As I am looking around, my eyes land on a pair of the bluest eyes I have ever seen. They are far away. Too far to make out who or what they belong to. They are definitely too high up to be human.
Its like I have tunnel vision. All I can see are those eyes. I can feel my body being drawn to them. I need to be closer. I can feel my body being pulled closer to them. I never look away from those eyes, I cant, my eyes are glued. I feel myself moving closer to them without moving my feet, almost as if I am floating to them. Just a little closer. I need to be closer, my body desperately needs to be closer.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
My alarm. It was just a dream. A weird, crazy dream, my heart is still racing, and my body is aching wanting to reach those eyes. That felt so real.
I lay in bed trying to gather my thoughts. It's 5 am and my shift at the diner starts in an hour. If I don't get out of bed now, I won't be going in today. I climb out of bed and make my way to the shower. Starting my shower at full blast hot. The best way to wake up is to feel like I am melting away my skin. As my water heats up, I check myself over in the mirror.
My brown wavy hair is messy and out of control, the dark circles that were around my blue eyes yesterday are lighter this morning. I finally got some rest last night. I have just moved to the big city two weeks ago, my days and nights have been spent hiding, unpacking and working. My past is dark, and a place I don't care to revisit.
I shake my head to rid myself of the memories that threaten to creep into my mind.
By now the mirror has fogged up and my shower is ready. I take a quick shower and finish getting ready for my shift.
Rushing out the door, I began my walk to the diner. The walk was less then a mile from my apartment, so the walk isn't long. I enjoy being able to walk. It always gives me time to think and to clear my head. After my dream last night, I am left wondering what it means, whose eyes were those?
Finally, I arrived at the diner. 6 am right on time. The diner looks like something you would see in a 50's movie. It's on the corner of a busy street that is filled with shops and other outlets. It's a pretty popular place. We usually get our morning rush at about 6:30 am, all of the business men and women getting breakfast before they head to the office. We get another rush around 12 pm with usually the same business men and women getting lunch. We have our typical regulars that come in almost daily.
"Your finally here!" Marci says excitedly. I met Marci when I started here about a week and half ago. We instantly clicked and she has become my best friend. My only friend here, but best friend none the least.
"I know, I was running behind this morning." I chuckled, hoping she didn't ask what kept me because I did not want to recap the dream that I had.
"Usually you are 15 minutes early. I was shocked when I beat you here!" She teases me, smiling.
"I'm going to get the coffee going before our rush comes this morning." I smile as I get to work.
Before I knew it the diner is busy with our morning rush, one regular group of business men come an sit down in my area, there are just 4 of them. They are always super friendly an always tip good too. To say they are good looking is an understatement. These men look like Greek Gods. I think it is a requirement in the application. You must work out 7 days a week, be in great shape and good looking. Jace is the one who always does the talking apart form ordering. I walk over and greet them kindly and get their drink orders. As I walked back to the bar, I realized Jace had followed me.
"Hey Jace, did you need to add anything to your order?" I ask
"No, Ana, I actually needed to ask you for a favor. We would like to have a business meeting this afternoon for lunch. Our boss, boss is meeting with us. Do you all have a room we could make that happen?"
"We have a party room in the back. Rick usually makes us rent it out though, so it would cost you." I said a little ashamed. This isn't the nicest place, its not a dump by any means, but Rick, the owner, is very money hungry and charges way to much.
"Thats okay. How much for about 2 hours this afternoon?" Jace ask sweetly. He gives me that smile that would make any girls knees go weak. Oh hes good. He knows how to get what he wants. I smiled to my self at the thought.
'"Im sorry Jace, but Rick charges a base rate of $100, but he won't rent it out for a few hours. It'll have to be an all-day rental an you'll have to pay in advance."
"Oh Ana, money is not a problem" He laughs, "as long as you are our server. We will tip well, I promise." He smiles at me.
"So you mean to tell me, I get out of lunch rush and a big tip? You got a deal. Ill go get Rick and he can take your payment." I jokingly say as I walk away an into the office to get Rick.
I knock on the door, "Morning Rick" I say cheerfully, "Jace, our group of regulars, wants to speak to you about renting out the party room today for a business meeting."
"Okay I will be right out." Rick tells me not even looking up from the stack of papers he had on his desk. I walk back out and go to finish the drink orders.
"He will be out here in a moment" I smiled at Jace before I started the drinks.
While I was finishing up making the group's drinks, Rick came out and begins speaking with Jace, I let them talk an go deliver the drinks. Before I was finished, Jace had returned to the table.
"Alright boys, are we ready to order?" I asked. They each tell me their order and I go to place it in with the cooks. It takes about 15 minutes and their food is up. I serve them all their dishes.
"Ill see you at lunch. Could you please make sure the room is sit to seat about 30 to 35 people?" Jace asked.
"You bet" I say kindly.
"I arranged with Rick for you to be our server. I want you to know I had to pay extra to have you, because apparently you are the best one here." Jace smiles at me jokingly.
" Thats the word on the street" I laughed back "I'll be sure everything is ready for your meeting. No worries", I smiled and walked back to finish with my other tables so I could start on the meeting room.
