Chapter 2

Beep, beep, beep. There was a faint beeping sound. As my eyes started to slowly open I could see bright fluorescent lights above me. I searched for the beeping. To my left there was a heart monitor. My eyes searched my body only to find wires and tubes tangled with myself. There was a man in the seat to my right. When he heard me rustling around in the bed he woke up, looked at me, and started crying. "Nurse! NURSE!" he started yelling. I covered my ears quickly. The man rushed to me and hugged me tightly. I have no clue who he is. I push him off me. "Who are you?!" I scold him. He didn't look amused. "Babe c'mon. You know me." He chuckled. I looked him over and my face must've shown my confusion because he started scowling. "Babe, do you seriously not remember me...?" He asked. Just then a nurse rushed in. "It's a miracle!" She said. The nurse started checking my vitals, my blood pressure, and my breathing patterns. "Do you know your name?" The nurse asked. I pondered her question for a minute, frowning myself. "I-I don't know..." I say slowly. Did I really not remember my own name? "Your name is Bailey Newman," the nurse said. "You're 27 years old now, and that man over there," she points to the man that had been calling me babe, "That man is your husband, Jordan Newman." My husband?! If I didn't feel guilty before I sure as hell felt guilty now. How do I not remember..? "What happened to me?" I ask the nurse. "2 years ago you were brought in an ambulance, suffering from severe head trauma. The police caught the man who did it and he will be in prison for a long time. Due to the head condition at the time, you had slipped into a coma. You're husband arrived with you and hasn't left your side ever since." The nurse answered. The room went quiet. I looked at the man, my husband, and put my hand out to try and reach his. He saw my struggle and grabbed my hand, squeezing it. My eyes started to water. "I'll leave you two be. If you need me I'll be just down the hall helping another patient," the nurse said before walking out. "I'm sorry," I start to cry. "Shh shh shh, hey hey, what are you sorry for?" He asked, trying to calm my sobs. "I'm sorry I don't remember anything," I choke out. He wrapped his arms around me securely and whispered, "It's not your fault Bailey, I love you. I'll do whatever it takes to help you with your memory." We sit in silence for a while, just hugging. I wish I could remember him. He's just so amazing. "I love you," I mutter sweetly. His arms, still wrapped around me, squeezed me once more. "I love you too," he smiled, small tears dripping from his eyes.
