CHAPTER SIX

NYX'S POV

I woke up the next day feeling sore after two round of s*x with Zeph last night. After we did it on the dining table, we did it again on our bed. I turned around just to find the bed empty. I got up to prepare for work, went straight to the kitchen to prepare myself a breakfast when i saw the already prepared breakfast and coffee with a note under the cup.

Didn't wake you up. Seems like i tired you from last night. And as a consolation, i prepared your breakfast. Have to come to work early as we have a meeting with the client and might come home late later, don't wait for me. I love you <3

I can't help but to smile of his little gesture. It might be pretty simple, but the love and care behind is what made it special. I am having my breakfast when my phone suddenly rings. It was Marj who's calling

"Hello?"

"Zup, Nyx. How you doing?"

"You asked like we haven't met few days ago." I nonchalantly answered which earned me a chuckle from the other line.

"I just missed you that's all, haha. Anyways, are you free?"

"I have work today, why?"

"Want to grab some dinner later? Someone wants to see you and i already invited her."

I paused for a while. My heart beats faster as i began to have an idea whom the person who wanted to see me. I know i shouldn't have doubts regarding my relationship with Zeph because i trust him. I shook the negative feeling and took a deep breathe.

"Who?" I asked.

"Emery. I also invite her since its been ages since the last time we saw her. And i heard she's back in town so i grab the oopportunity." Marj casually explained.

"No worries, Skylar and Ellis will also join us." She added.

"What about Henry?" I asked.

"Well, he's currently in Singapore." I nodded as acknowledgment. I feel relieve due to the fact that our whole gang would be there. I wonder if Zeph would join us, but i guess not since he told me that he's busy and might come home late.

"Okay. I'll see you later then."

"See ya. Bye." Then she hung up, then i continue enjoying my breakfast as i need to hurry up before getting late. Since i finished earlier than usual, i decided to stop by at my favorite bakery down the street. I grab my usual croissant and a cappucino and i was about to leave when someone bumped into me.

"Sorry"

I was about to curse him out when i froze after seeing his face.

"Anthony?" I blurted out.

"Nyx." He answered. I was astonished seeing him again. Anthony is a close friend of mine since junior high school. We separated during college years when his family moves to overseas. We were very close back then until life got caught up and we lost communication

"Oh my God, it's really you. How are you?" I asked giddily as i gave him a hug.

"I'm doing fine. How about you?" He asked.

"I'm good. Since when did you come back?"

"Just a few months ago. By the way, wanna catch up? I'll treat you coffee and croissants since i spilled the ones you bought."

"I would love to, but i have to go. I have work."

"Then, can i get your number?" He asked. I nodded and hands him my phone and after a few seconds he hands it back.

"I gotta go. Bye." Then i waved him goodbye and walks away. Thankfully, the traffic isn't that heavy so i arrived at my workplace on time.

"God, i thought you weren't turning in today." Leona said as i reached my table.

"And since did i skip work?"I asked.

"When you were too sore to work." She answered and then she laughed which made me to playfully smack her arm.

"Hahaha! I'm just kidding. Love marks really looks good on you." She sneered. My brows furrows and immediately grabs her mirror and much to my suprise, that bastard really left hickeys on my neck.

Time passes by slowly and finally its our lunch break. I took my phone to dial Zeph to ask him about his day as usual but sadly it was directed to voicemail. He really seems so busy this past few days.

"I know that look." Leona sneered as she sat down in front of me.

"He's just busy. I remember what he wrote in his note before he left earlier that he will be out in meeting their clients." I answered as i took a sip of my coffee.

"I remember you told me that his ex return. Are you not, you know threatened?" She asks.I smiled and shook my head.

"I trust him, you know. And besides, we are all in the same circle of friends. And i understand that she's part of his life., i don't think i have enough reason to be threatened. He loves me enough and he gives me assurance that i don't have to worry about anything."

"You shouldn't settle for less, you know? Promises. It can be broken especially someone in his past returns. Don't be too complacent. I'm not telling this to plant negativity or any doubts about your relationship. I'm telling you this as a friend." She said as she gently pats my shoulder. I just smiled and nods. She really have a point so i acknowledge everything she said out of concern.

When our lunch ends, we immediately went back to our working station. I made myself busy to the point that i never notice that it is almost 5 pm. I called it a day and went straight to the cafe where our mini reunion will take place.

"Here he is! Thought you were ghosting us!" Skylar screamed the moment i entered the cafe.

"Shush! You're too loud." Marj reprimands.

"I miss you!" Ellis said as she gave me a hug. I hugged her back and then my eyes went to Em who is staring at me with a smile on her face.

"Hi, Zeph. It's been a while." Em said.

"Yeah." I answered.

We all settled down, then a waiter came to get our orders. While waiting, we all talk about how our lives thriving throughout this years.

"So when are you and Zeph getting married?" Ellis asked. I almost choked down on my food when she blurted out the question.

"Haha! Uhm, we don't have plan yet. He wasn't even asking me though." I answered. I felt a litle pang on my chest after i said it. It's true though, he haven't asked me yet and we haven't talk about it again, although we really have a plan to get married, we both decided to focus on our goals and careers.

"He isn't coming? Why is he not with you?" Skylar asked.

"He's busy." I answered.

"He's with a client. I'm with him earlier." Emery said. I just nodded in acknowledgment and took a bite of my food to distract myself from this uncomfortable feeling.

"Wait..so you and Zephyr? How come? Are you working in the same workplace? It's been years since the last time he saw you." Skylar said.

"Yeah. I'm working at the same place as him, but we're not fine. I mean everything is all just about professionalism betwen us at the moment" Em answered.

“It’s understandable, you left him suddenly without giving him any reasons or explanation. It also affected our circle you know? But nevermind, we won’t ask the reason if you aren’t comfortable enough to share it to us right now. What really matters is you came back.” Marj said. Emery just smiled on her and we al continued eating.

“Nyx, can i talk to you?” She asked.

“Sure.” We excused ourselves from our friends and we went out of the restaurant.

“What is it?” I asked.

“Can you help me to talk to Zeph?” She asked. I froze.

“Why?”

“I want to explain myself to him. To apologize on what i did. He doesn’t even want to talk to me, he said he wasn’t ready, yet.”

“I don’t know if there is something i could do. Because it’s his decision, and i want to respect that.”I explained.

“I understand, but please?” She pleaded. I gulped and start to overthink things.

What if she wants him back?

“I’ll try my best, but i can’t promise you anything.” I answered.

“Thank you so much, Nyx.” Then she hugs me. After the talk, we went back inside the restaurant and rejoined our friends. I tried to forget this sinking feeling but i couldn’t ignore it. There is so many questions running into my mind.

What if he also wants her back?

Well to be honest, i’m just a fake protagonist on their story. Maybe i’m just here with him to fill the void Emery left. And now she returns, what does it make of me now?
