Chapter 2

“Andrea!” Cassie called. “Can you serve breakfast to the Alpha for me?” “Sure,” I replied, whilst giving her a winning smile. For the past two months, life in the Rock Hill Pack had been serene, regardless of the strenuous work I had to put in for the day. I was quickly welcomed by the pack which made it easy to settle in and accept the fact I had been reborn. It put me at an advantage as I was now living on a clean slate. The mistakes of the past didn’t matter anymore but the future did. There were no suspicions that I had any ulterior motives or I might have been from a rogue pack. Which on my part, seemed slightly distrustful when every pack was wary of new pack members and I didn’t blame them for the augmenting rogue invasions Nevertheless, like all packs you have to work your way up the hierarchy so I was now an omega. It didn’t bother me at all. I had a bed, food, clothes, and shelter that was something under the criteria of livable. Best of all, it wasn’t the Crystal Blue Pack. “Andrea!” A voice called. “Wait up!” It was Hugo, the squirrel with rust-colored fur, scurrying towards me. When I was young, I was orphaned by a vicious attack planted by the rogues. Alone and hungry, I had nowhere left to go, until I heard a voice. It was kind and gentle and it guided me to safety. That moment, not only, marked the beginning of my ability to communicate with animals but also my friendship with the animals of the Crystal blue pack. On the day of my execution, I didn't want them to witness my death, because I wanted them to remember me as the happy Andrea who took care of them all, not the Andrea who was left in pain with no one to save her. “What is it, Hugo?” Hugo was the first out of the animals who lived here that I had befriended. “The rats have discovered that a guest is coming to the pack today.” He informed me before he leaped onto my shoulder, I used my hand to help him regain balance. “There is?” I questioned, wondering if that was the cause of all the commotion. “Do you know who it is? “The rats are still looking into that but I'm sure they'll discover it soon,” Hugo paused and looked towards the ground. “They always do,” He muttered in a low voice as his eyes were in a north-easterly direction. I chuckled. “I’m sure everyone has better things to do than think about your silly moments,” I said. “I hope so,” He replied. “Anyways, you feel like taking responsibility for the prophecy, yet?” I sighed, it was an everyday question I got from the animals. They knew my response would be the same yet they always asked because they yearned that I’d accept my destiny but I never would because I knew I wasn’t cut out for it. “What kind of question is that? I told you that I’ll never associate myself with that prophecy.” “You can’t from destiny.” Seeing my expression that had ‘yes’ written over it he pinched his nose. l“It doesn't matter, got to go, lots to do with winter coming along.” “See you-” “Who are you talking to?” I cut myself as Roberta came towards me, she was smiling at me contently while her hands were out in front, ready to hug me. Ever since I came to the pack, I had kept an eye on Roberta because she was the Alpha’s daughter. The one thing that amazed me most about her was how she was able to enter anyone’s personal space without them getting aggressive. It was proof alone that being the alpha’s daughter had turned her into a social magnet. “Uhm, Nobody.” My response was terse as she had caught me off guard. “Oh, okay,” she replied. “Where are you going?” It was nice she was trying to make conversation but it annoyed me because it felt forced. Her smile, her speech, and her body seemed to be cheerful and joyous while her eyes spoke a different language. I wasn’t hate but more a guilty look. “I’m going to give breakfast to the Alpha,” I replied. “Are you okay?” She replied I realized she was talking about my voice, it was more grave than usual. “Yeah,” I reassured. “Yeah, You know me, definitely not that morning person.” I lied. “I know what you mean as you look pretty tired,” She said, noting the bags under my eyes. “Don’t worry, Andrea, if Cassie’s overworking you, just say my name and I'll be there in 2.” I laughed, things felt a bit more normal after her joke but I still wanted to leave. “Oh, well,” I said. “I must depart, the alpha’s breakfast is quickly getting cold and I don’t want to be the first to suffer from his wrath, this morning.” “Bye.” “Bye.” Thank Goddess, that was over. I thought. I silently walked down the corridor until I was standing in front of the meeting hall. I knocked on the door loudly, hoping whoever was inside could hear me. “Who is it?” The alpha called, his voice was muffled by the walls that separated us. “It’s Andrea,” I replied. “Come in,” He responded. I opened the door and entered but surprisingly, it was empty. It was always busy in the mornings and it also smelled like the boy’s changing rooms back from the Crystal Blue pack. So why did the sent orange mixed with a hint of chocolate tinge my nose? It couldn’t be. There was no such thing as second chance mates. I almost dropped the food as Alpha Dan swung his arm around my neck, whilst saying. “This is my daughter, Andrea.” What was happening? He looked at me sternly as if to threaten me to go along with his eyes rather than his mouth. I didn’t see who he was talking to due to the lack of light. If anything they were nothing more than a dark, blurry shape. whoever it was, I would tell them the truth because the truth would come out. “Go on, Andrea, why don’t you greet Alpha Maximillian?” Alpha Maximillian? Was he talking about the werewolf king? Was I standing in front of the werewolf king? If this was true, that meant the Alpha I was standing before was the unmerciful wolf, I had been warned about in several stories. If he figured out that Dan was lying, he wouldn’t just kill Dan but me too. I placed the tray onto the table before dropping onto my knees. “Good Morning, Your Majesty.” My arms were trembling. “Rise.” A voice ordered it was his beta, Derick Amedeo. I did as told, not wanting any disorder. “Alpha, do you approve of the Rock Hill Pack’s apology?” It was then I realised I had been tricked. They were going to punish me for what the pack did. We all stood there waiting for the alpha’s word of approval. “M-m-m,” He stuttered. I could sense everyone’s shock at the abnormal stutters escaping his mouth. For a moment he revealed his weakness. “Mate!”
