Chapter 3

1480 Words
“What?” Alpha Dan questioned, exactly repeating my thoughts. I stepped back, bumping into the wall. “Alpha?” The beta questioned. I could see the edge of his lips curling into a semi-smile before wavering into his usual state of emptiness. It was as if he was telling himself not to get his hopes up. He wasn’t the only one. On the other hand, you had the alpha, eyeing me as if I was fresh meat. Air escapes my nostrils along with anxiety and rattling nerves, as I slightly tilted my head upwards to find myself melting in the two pools of his coal eyes. They had small flecks of grey lining the edges of his pupils. His hair was flicked back, it too was black. For the first time in my two lives, I was stunned, debating the possibility that black could be beautiful. As black was a mystery. It was a puzzle summoning upon me to unravel its foreboding secrets. As black was compelling. A spell that screamed my name, wielding power as hypnotizing as the midnight shade of his hair. As black was unknown. It was an abyss that had no ends that strayed into the realms of infinite discoveries. Could I love him? “Alpha?” The beta called the second time, pulling us both out of our trance. This time I breathed in his intoxicating scent, admiring every trace of it down to the bone. “Mine,” He grumbled, with his hand elevating my chin. He was closer this time as his breath tingled my cheek. Oh, darn. “Out.” The beta demanded Alpha Dan. He had deduced we were mates in an instant. Noticing Dan’s devoid of speed, he repeated himself, even louder, before threatening him that a word about anything and he’d be punished. Dan stormed out of the room. I didn’t have any remorse to spare after the immediate show of his true colours. It was me and the alpha. Since I met him the world had brightened as if my receptors had been revitalized by his handsome charm. My thoughts were filled with glee. My heart raced. The world had suddenly become a new place sitting a step away from paradise. Then my thoughts shattered. There could be no way we could be together. If he brought me to his pack, I'd never be able to get revenge on Maria or if I became his Luna, Jared would find and kill me. The thought of going through that all over was devastating. I peeled the alpha’s hands off of me. “Stop,” I breathed, I didn't want him to stop. My wolf was purring in delight. Shut up, I told her. Jeez, even she was disobeying me. During the first few seconds I had known him I had already become a magnet to his touch. And that was saying something considering all male touch grossed me out since my revival. “We need to talk,” I told him. He nodded curtly before taking a seat. “Leave, Derrick,” he ordered. “But alpha-” “No buts, You must keep an eye on the treasoner.” His dark eyes now had a sharp edge, like the tip of a dagger, threatening him to obey. Reluctantly, he left with arms pulled around his body, eying me, expressing distrust. I would have pulled a childish face back at him if the werewolf king had not sitting in front of me. He gestured for me to talk whilst taking a bite of Alpha Dan’s breakfast. I was going to say something about it but thought better of it. “Your majesty, I am not Alpha Dan’s daughter,” I said, confidently. I hid all signs of fear through a blank expression. “I don’t know whatever the punishment is of the Rock Hill pack but you can’t make me suffer for his actions. I’ve only been here for two months, I’m certain whatever he’s telling you is a lie.” “Andrea, Is it?” Shit, how did he know my name? I nodded. “As much as you’re my mate and I would want to believe you, Daniel has seemed to provide your adoption papers that contain your signature as proof.” “Adoption papers?! I swear I haven’t signed anything of the sort,” I pulled the file towards me, scrutinizing it. To my misfortune, at the bottom the page sat my signature. I knew though, that I hadn't signed anything once I got here except the contract for joining the pack. The contract for joining the pack. How could I be stupid enough to believe in that contract? I knew there was no such thing as a contract to join packs. Only rubbish lesser packs used those. I felt my cheeks redden from the betrayal, I knew I wasn't this stupid but how was I always getting taken advantage of? Goddess’s luck? I thought to myself. Nah, there had to be something much fouled at play. “Miss, there is nothing you can say to deny what is on the paper, you are to become an omega of my pack whether you like it or not.” Knowing the severity of the punishment released a few of my fears but I couldn't live in the royal pack, my life would forever be in jeopardy. “Your Majesty, I can’t-” A ferocious roar erupted from his throat. I was silent. “You can and you will serve to the end of your days, Andrea. As a former Luna, I trust you know the consequences of broken rules.” He took a sip of the orange juice, seeming to ignore the storm of lost thoughts in the back of my head. Now I had really done it. “How could you possibly know that?” “Do you think I don't keep track of what's happening in my packs?” He grinned at me while holding the glass. Well, it would’ve been better for me if you didn't! I sighed in response. “If you think you can threaten me with my past, it won’t work, they’ll come and kill me either way. The amount of people who will want to kill me will be nothing more than a setback to your pack.” “Who will?” He questioned, before stretching in his chair. “You see Andrea, I've heard loads of rumours about your so-called execution, the way you managed to convince everyone you were dead and end up in enemies’ territory. How did you do it?” My hands were grabbing onto the seat. The cocky prick knew exactly what he was doing. My mind was at war with itself, one part telling me he was my mate, and I had to tell him the truth while the other was completely against the idea. I wanted to trust him and tell him the truth but imagining me saying ‘Your majesty was reborn and somehow magically teleported here after my death.’ It didn’t seem like the typical thing you’d want to say to your second chance mate. Plus, I think the sudden l**t was mainly from my wolf who decided to emerge and enter the group chat. Therefore, I decided against it. “What do you mean? I didn’t do anything.” “That's what any lying person would say.” He said, whilst grinning, he didn’t seem upset or angry about how I was keeping to myself. Instead, his eyes were filled with amusement. “Don’t worry, I do not need to threaten you.” “However, we need to wrap this up. Andrea, I can only imagine how frustrated you are considering how you were replaced as Luna and almost executed. Only if it wasn’t because of Miss Alfonso replacing you, you might have been able to have your happily ever after with Alpha Jared.” I sense the acid in his voice when referring to the two of them. “Yes,” I answered. “What is your point?” “I want to call a promise, a bargain, whatever you may want to call it. If you help with my side of the bargain, in return you may live in my pack, under my protection.” I could feel the gears in my head, trying to understand what he was planning but my head remained blank. “Okay, and what do you want?” “Exactly, what you want.” “Which is?” “To bring Maria Alfonso, to her grave, of course.” My mind stopped for a moment, his smile remained unfazed as if he hadn't realised his words had just steered the whole atmosphere of the conversation elsewhere. Focus, I told myself. I took a deep breath before I gave him a response.
