Chapter 4

“... and then I agreed,” I said, coming to the end of my explanation. My hands were still clammy with sweat from the whole experience but nonetheless, I told the story as dramatically as I could. “So,” Hugo said slowly. “You’re leaving?” His voice was high-pitched while he seemed to be accepting the fact I'd be moving away. We were surrounded by the rest of the animals who seemed just as distressed. Great, I had to ruin things for them even when I was leaving. “It’s okay, guys,” I said reassuringly. “I promise I'll come back as soon as possible.” I knew it was a lie but the last thing I wanted was to watch their melancholic expressions before my departure. For the last time, we giggled together before I dragged my suitcase towards a black limo waiting outside of the pack. It seemed out of place. It was surrounded by dirt and jagged rocks. There was no longer any building in sight for I had, previously, stepped out of the pack’s walls. My head was sheltered by the entangled branches that were intertwined like a pile of knots tangled together. As I viewed the car again, it looked as if it had been thrown into the rural world and away from the business of the urban world. I couldn’t help but scan its long black body with awe. It was the first time I had been looking at a limo and spoiler alert: it wasn’t through a TV screen. “Bye,” I mouthed quietly, my eyes watered as I listened to their heart-warming goodbyes. “Took you long enough.” My heart slammed out of my ribcage. “What the hell?!” I screamed in fear. I quickly brushed off the alarm, he brought me whilst clutching onto my palpitating heart. I was radiating with fear as I noticed the grin smeared across his face. Stupid shitbag. “Come on, Andrea.” He said in a low but stern voice, we were surrounded by the few guards he brought along. “Get in the car, or I'm leaving you.” I didn't really get the joke because if anything it was him forcing me to go. Not me. As well what was actually pissing me off was since we left the room, he had started to act distant towards me. It was like I didn't exist to him! As much as I wanted to remind him we were mates, I couldn’t since nobody was allowed to know. I hadn’t even known him for an hour yet he seemed to make me want to reject him right on the spot. I forced a smile onto my face as I sat opposite him, I tried to ignore the fancy interior as I crossed my leg over my lap. It was hard for me to adopt the same stern demeanour but I put up a stronger barrier to impose on him. Few minutes later, i’d given up and we were now sat quietly as the scenery rolled by. “Why so quiet?” He asked as if he was the cause of it. “No reason,” I lied as I stared into the vast expanse of the elegant, picturesque mountains. It was hard to believe I had been living here and never thought to look up and view it all. Maybe it was being stuck on that mountain without a shred of luck that made me stay away. Despite all the chaos it brought, you’d never be able to imagine it with the beauty of the mountains. It seemed to be its own island, completely isolated from the rest of the pack. Its peaceful appearance made me realise how complex my life was. How did I get to being executed to becoming an omega for the royal pack? The main reason I accepted my fate as an omega of the Rock Hill pack was because I knew after I got my revenge I would live in peace there. But after everything would peace still be possible? Yeah, moving to be and omega did seem like a very big jump in promotion but being and omega in the royal pack was 100% worse. First thing to point out was that the omega of the royal pack were less than werewolf, in fact they were nothing like omegas in the other packs. They were usually filled in by prisoners who were serving low-grade sentences since anyone and everyone living in the royal pack were considered closed to the top of the hierarchy, nobody wanted those jobs since nobody needed them. Of course you had few to supervise the criminals but that was it. The reason it was so bad was that your poorly treated by your superiors, you only got one meal of stale bread and a quarter of a glass of water and lastly there was no freedom since your routine was heavily controlled andd you weren’t allowed to leave under any circumstances. “Andrea, I’d like to discuss further into our agreement.” He informed me, his voice was formal yet deadpan. He didn’t smile. “Not until you tell me what reason you want to kill Maria.” I raised my voice slightly. “What reason would you want to kill the prophesied Luna?” I was normally an expert with controlling my temper but the more I was with him, I was triggered by memories of Jared. I didn’t know how to be with someone who was hiding secrets from me. What made me even more frustrated was that he was pretending we weren’t mates as all. If anything I had become nothing more than an asset to his plan which he kept to himself. I noticed the driver take his eyes off the steering wheel to give me a worried look which I disregarded. “Why do you need to know?” He asked while using the miniature remote by him to remove the driver's face with a tinted window. “I’m leaving all I've known for the last two months just to help you with your plan, I think that's a good enough reason for me to know the truth.” “Very well then,” He said. “You’ve heard of the rumours about Maria being the prophesied Luna, right?” “Yes, what about them? And why would you want her dead if she is destined to remove the rogues from this world?” “Calm down, Andrea,” He said. “I’ll answer your questions but the last thing we need is you making any wrong assumptions.” “Quit the baby talk and talk normally to me.” How annoying. “You’ve heard of the great prophecy? Actually, no need to answer that one, everyone has.” I cold feel the strength in his voice begin to soften, as he looked away. It almost frightened me. “In this world there is balance to everything. Life and death. Good and evil. And what most don’t know is that there is a second part.” “What is it?” “The second part of the prophecy talks about a woman who is against the prophesied Luna, her opposite, who is evil and cruel everything the the prophesied Luna is not. She is the one who leads the Rogues to destroy the world and is defeated in the final battle by the Prophesied Luna.” My eyes narrowed as I assessed his words. “So… you think this evil lady is Maria?” “Yes.” “So why don’t you kill her then?” Wasn't he supposed to be an evil tyrant? “Believe me, I would but even are best trackers are struggling to locate her whereabouts.” “Alright and where do I come in all of this?” I queried. “I was getting to that,” He took a small pause. “From reading on you I know you also possess the sharpest hunting and tracking skills known to the werewolf world.” “Yeah, but what does that have anything to do with it?” “It means I need your help, this war between the rogues and royals will lead to our doom if Maria is that woman from the prophecy. The only hope I- no we have is to find the prophesied Luna. So please, help me, we have to find her.” I sat stunned. “Me? But how can you be sure I can be trusted?” Just I think things couldn't get worse they do. “Andrea, I need you to do this for me, my kingdom, my everything depends on you helping me. It won't be easy i’ll tell you but it’ll be worth it.” The more he said, the more lost I was. He wanted me to find myself? “So just to understand, this was all a ploy to get me to work for you?” Unsurprisingly, I never got my answer as the window, stopping the driver from overhearing us, rolled down. “Sorry to interrupt, alpha, but we're almost at the top of the pack.”The driver said. “We can’t be.” I said aloud. “It’s about a two-hour drive from the Rock Hill pack to the Royal pack.” “When did I ever say we were going to the royal pack?” He’s so dead-
