A Forgotten Realm

Perspective: Alea It was cold and dark outside as I ran from what I thought was once my home. Rain trickled down like ice on my skin as my bare feet dug into the leaves and mud of the forest. As I made my escape from reality the thoughts racing my mind were racing alongside me, “why me?” “Why him?” “Who would do such a thing to someone so kind and warm?” “I’ve got to make it to the temple gates. It isn’t to far I can do it.” Just hours earlier my father, the only person I had to care for and love me, was murdered in cold blood. I didn’t understand why but I had a feeling if I made it to the Temple Gates I would be safe. If I had stayed I surely would be next. I’m not sure why I knew staying was my doom but I did and so I ran. As the rain began to burn like fire on my skin and my feet felt as though the skin would be falling off by now the gates came into view and a wave of relief flooded me followed by immediate fear upon seeing a group gathered there. I slowed my pace and attempted to even my breathing to not be heard as I approached hoping to the gods that they weren’t looking for me. As I hid behind the trees listening for any sliver of conversation I could grasp but catching only whispers unintelligible to my ears a voice rang out clear as day, “come on out I know you’re there I can feel your presence and you’ve made it just in time for the ceremony to begin..”
