The girls headed to the front of the club as Nancy got out her phone to call their ride. She sighed and slumped down on the bench outside.
“Its dead!”
“What?” Char asked “how is it dead?”
“Probably all those pictures we took inside” Becca said and all three girls giggled.
“What are we going to do? I’m not getting the bus dressed like this” Nancy stated while gesturing to her look of the evening.
Meanwhile, inside Will had told David about his encounter and both men had kept their eyes on the trio throughout the night. David even casually danced with Nancy as the evening progressed. Will noticed she was much friendlier than his emerald, David was even able to get her name from her. “Charlotte” he said to himself. They then watched the giggling girls stumbling to the door. Will, faking a phone call, came back a moment later to collect David for business, both men making their way to the exit as well. He told himself he just wanted to make sure they weren’t driving and made it into their ride safely. When they went outside, they saw all three girls on the bench outside. Nancy was looking at her dead phone like it would turn back on at any minute, Becca was passed out across Charlotte's lap, who was fighting to stay awake herself.
Will motioned for David to take the lead, as Nancy seemed to at least tolerate him. Getting the hint, he walked over and cleared his throat, “Hey Nance, I heard you were taking the bus?” he asked. Nancy looked up at him tears instantly pricking her eyes, “My phone died before we could call our ride share. We really don’t want to take a bus at this time of night”, She poured out to David with the most sincere puppy dog face he had ever seen. David didn’t know why, but the thought of Nancy riding a bus at this time of night was upsetting to him as well and he looked over at Will, who just nodded, “Come on, why don’t we take you girls home?” He asked with his hand extended to Nancy. She didn’t even hesitate to hop right into his arms, “Thank you so much David, we were scared about taking the bus.” Looking back at Charlotte she was surprised to see her facial expression.
As soon as David started talking to Nancy she had looked over and watched Will, she saw him give the nod, and was in no way OK with this. “David, grab the car, I’ll wait with the girls” Will said tossing him the keys as he dissapeared to the valet's. Charlotte's eyes never left Will but she didn’t say anything either. She knew it would be safer for her friends to catch a ride home especially with Becca passed out already.
David pulls back up in a black audi and opens the back door, coming around to help Charlotte with a passed out Becca, “I’ve got it thank you,” She says curtly as she helps load Becca into her seat next to Nancy. David starts to walk around to the driver side and Will was waiting to close the door for the girls, as Charlotte climbed out to his surprise.
“Did you forget something?” He asked looking over to the bench maybe one of the girls had left their bag.
“No, I’ll be taking the bus thank you” Charlotte states walking back over to the bench.
David tries to stiffle a laugh from the front seat, no one ever talked to Will like this and yet this tiny firecracker cannot be any less bothered. Will shuts the door and heads over to the bench as well.
“Ok I guess we’re taking the bus.” He states calmly as he sits on the opposite side.
“Excuse, I have been polite –“
“polite that is what you call this?” Will asked amused.
“Yes, polite” Charlotte replies, “Now again you are not my boyfriend or my dad and I’m very capable of getting the bus by myself.” Any buzz she had from the evening long gone at the mention of her father. She longs for the relationship they once had. She would have called him and he would have picked all three girls up with no questions. Yet she knows her mother would never have heard the end of it, how she raised a daughter just like her, going out getting into trouble needing someone to clean up her mess. No, she didn’t need a father like that and she didn’t need help from someone like William.
William leans closer, “I know I am not your boyfriend. If I were you would have never made it out of the house in that dress. You’re gorgeous, sweet girl and if you were mine, your body would only be mine to treasure.” His words dripping with conviction, his deep baratone voice holding promise as he drapes his jacket around her back and over her shoulders. His large statue meant his jacket was enough to cover her and some, while she wanted to refuse, she was also more comfortable being covered and while she would never tell him, she didn’t want to get the bus alone. “Well in the spirit of moving the night along, keeping my friends safe and never seeing you again I guess we will take Davids car” she replied with a steady voice walking back towards the vehicle. Will tried to hide the smirk dancing across his face as he strode back to open her door once again.
“Where to?” David asked as Will climbed in next to him. Will turned to faces Charlotte, “Char, my emerald, where is home?” Charlotte tried to ignore him, only looking at David and providing their address, but Will noticed the heat creeping up her beautiful ivory chest, making her cheeks the perfect shade of pink. He smirks thinking of his new name for the beauty in the emerald dress.
The girls stumbled out of the back seat with Becca in tow, as Will and David watched to ensure they made it inside safely.David chuckled to himself, “I’ve never seen you show so much interest in a girl before, but I will give it you she is beautiful.” William could only nod in agreance as they headed back to their building.
