Prologue
Welcome aboard one of the most luxurious passenger liners you will ever have the privilege to travel.
The Liberty.
The Liberty is just one of a fleet of passenger liners that sail across the ocean, offering passengers just that extra bit of comfort for their journey. Well, if you're in first class, that is, third class isn't so lucky, but you'll be lucky enough to even have the chance to step on board the ship.
Catherine Astor does not have a ticket. Her name is not on the passenger list, and yet here we find her seeking refuge in the cargo hold, undiscovered or so she thinks.
Catherine or Kate, as she is known to the family, is running. Anyone who is a stowaway is generally running for their lives in hopes of starting over miles from home. A new identity, new hope, a new lease of life. Usually these kinds of people are from lower class heritage, and simply want to cross the ocean to seek work and a more prosperous chance of living, or escaping conviction...
Kate is not of the lower class, nor does she hail from the middle. She is of fortune, and fortune is the reason as to why she is looking to make her escape.
Now, as we hear the ship's horn blow and the boat begin to move out of where it's docked in England, the journey to New York is just beginning, but for kate? It is the start of something she never envisioned.
Do you have a ticket? Are your names on the passenger list?
Good. We wouldn't have any more stowaways than we already have.
May I suggest that you go onto the promenade deck and take in the sights before we're surrounded by nothing but water? It's going to be a long trip, but I'm sure with certain events that are yet to unfold, you'll have all the gossip to discuss in the dining room, especially if it concerns our Captain...
Enjoy the wind in your hair, make sure that your parasols do not get blown overboard, or you yourself. It is 1908 after all. We wouldn't want any losses at sea before we've even started, with all those layers of dress you're sure to be weighed down under the waves.
See you up on deck. Our voyage has begun....
