Chapter 17: History’s Repetition

1324 Words
Julian     The night was dark. Ava’s heat subsided for now, but it’s been constant and I’m exhausted. I was still locked in my office. I took a sip of my whiskey and set the glass down. I only had a small lamp to illuminate the large room. Apart of me feels like a failure for being unable to rescue my mate and honestly, for even letting her go. The wolf inside me was not calm and wanted to kill anyone and everyone that didn’t accept her being mine. As a child, Ava was my sunshine on a gloomy day; she still is.      Six months ago, I was more motivated than I had ever been to get to my love. I reached my point of distance and I needed to get to her as soon as possible, but both packs came up short on the information we had been needing. Without the cause of the fire 16 years ago, we cannot get payback on the woman who caused the destruction to our families. In what way would that make her suffer? We were lucky enough to infiltrate the castle, however. We caused numerous fires in the castle’s surrounding communities to instill fear, and with fear, more protection was needed, which opened up jobs for my people. It was a devious plan, but we never caused harm to any persons. Unfortunately, only my people see it that way and Ava would not take this information lightly.      The Revolters was an elite organization. It required background check after background check. Each person that joined needed to be stripped of their energy completely; a near death experience to prove their loyalty. Then Renee would put them under an honest spell, but that was the secret we never told a member who wanted to join. I personally have caught dozens of men and women, red handed in a lie. I can’t imagine how many, my other pack members have caught. I don’t enjoy the executions, but they must be done. If not, then these free people can try other methods to infiltrate my pack and I would never deliberately put another pack member at risk for my inability to eliminate people. I’m alpha; it’s my job to protect my people. It was also my job to protect my Luna, and here I was drinking whiskey and miserably failing at it.      I missed her, but who wouldn’t miss their mate? I am happy she is alive and well, but I’d be much happier if I could do something about the distance. More specifically, the heat she has been in. My mind wondered to her beautiful, curvy body and how she begged me to please her. I felt myself getting stiff, and decided to pour myself another drink. I downed it in one gulp before clearing my mind to get back to the matters at hand. I needed to focus, but who was I kidding. I couldn’t focus on anything. My mate was miles from me and we had little plans on changing that.      I got up to sit on the couch facing the TV. I didn’t want to be in the silence anymore, so I turned it on to let myself go into a peaceful bliss; one where Ava was in my arms.  ______________________________     “Alpha, we need you downstairs.”  Vince banged on the door to get my attention. I’m not even going to lie, I have no idea how long I have been in my office for. My head was also raging about all the drinks I had last night. I needed the headache to go away temporarily.      I put my pants back on before heading to the door. I opened it to find a very frantic little brother standing on the other side.      “What is it?” I asked.     “You need to come downstairs and see for yourself.”         “I’m not a fan of games, Vince.” I warned.     “Trust me on this. You won’t regret it.” He confidently spoke.      I followed him through the house and down the stairs to find a… Um. What the f**k is in my house?      “Speak.” I linked Vince.      “I know what you’re thinking, but listen to the man.” He linked back.     “And I believe I have the pleasure of meeting with the Alpha of The Greymoon Pack, Julian Grey. Truly is an honor to meet you sir. I’m aware of your discomfort, so I will get straight to the point.” The vampire spoke.     “Yes. Do that. What is the name of the vampire who causes me the discomfort?” I directly spoke.     “Tristin, sir. Tristin Burns.” He stated, more cheerfully than I wanted him to sound.     “Tristin, right.”     “I come here with a proposition. I know vampires, werewolves. Oof, don’t get along at all, but this vampire actually was apart of a very loving and amazing pack, which I am told you are quite familiar with. In fact you’re so familiar with them, that their daughter is your mate. Yes, spells may get past others, but they do not get past me, and I know a Greymoon pack scent as well as The Enchanted Warriors scent.”     Again, what the f**k is this pest doing in my house? Did Ava’s mother and father really have an alliance with a vampire. If so, what is he doing here now?     “Yes, let me proceed,” he continued. “Ava, resides in the castle with Queen Vivian. Tonight is the annual Masquerade ball and I believe you have someone who is literally dying to see you. The issue is that if the Queen knew who you were, you’d be beheaded. Luckily, I am an ally and I want to get our Luna back to her rightful throne and the Queen…We’ll let’s just say off of hers. I know me being a vampire makes it hard to trust my word, and I understand that. It took much convincing for the Whitlocks to allow me to join their pack, but their trust and kindness is why I want to do right by them. They were good people and their daughter does not deserve to suffer another day after losing her parents. And, before you ask, I do not know what caused the fire, but I presume Ava is learning about it as we speak and she may be the key to helping us destroy the queen. She was in the library when I had left to come here. Last answer to your question, I want to be apart of The Revolters. I want to help you make the world the way it was meant to be. I know you need to confirm my story and that is perfectly okay. Please speak with Andrea, she told me to come here and she can confirm it for you. I will be waiting.” He finished.     It was a lot of information to process. He came into my house and dropped a bomb on my pack members and me. He knew Ava and her family. Of course I needed to confirm his story. I wanted to research it myself before contacting Andrea. The Whitlocks kept an entire log in their personal records of alliances, enemies, finances, etc. I wanted to confirm if there was an alliance. In this moment, I felt the motivation I had been lacking for the last six months. Maybe Ava would be able to come home to me tonight. Maybe it was our time. I hoped so, for the sack of my mate and myself.
