She was leaning back in the chair with her eyes closed. Not sure if she was awake or sleeping, he stayed quiet and studied her. Wisps of dark hair, pulled back in a ponytail, had escaped and lay in tangled curls around her face. So beautiful. His eyes searched his surroundings. He was no longer in the ER but in a private room. The window blinds were closed, but he could see daylight filtering around the edges. The steady beep of the heart monitor caught his attention first. He was being fed oxygen through a clear plastic mask over his nose and mouth. An IV remained intact through the top of his hand, and a blue plastic peg sat on the end
