Chapter 29 The Adelina glided smoothly on the dark, silent waters of the Lagoon of Dreams, and we gazed around in awe. The lagoon was surprisingly immense, more a lake than a lagoon. It was at least two miles from the entrance to the far end, where the lush green of the undergrowth surrounding it was broken by brightly-colored orchids and bromeliads. Air plants grew on the trunks or branches or even the leaves of the many trees that marched back from the water’s edge. Vines were everywhere, and buttress roots supported and fed the trees they grew from. More than that, though, I felt a fizz of excitement. Are you here? Will I see you soon? Soon, my fingerling.
