Finn and I spent the day together in town. We went to the farmer's market downtown for Gram. We bought a few things to have a fruit salad. Finn and I were enjoying having time for us.

I began to think of what kind of food we would need at the wedding. What did merfolk eat anyway? How would we serve everyone in the sea? This was going to be a lot of work that was for sure.

"Sydney what is it?" Finn asks me as I look at all the venders selling food.

"Thinking about all the wedding plans we have to finish up" I mention.

"What would that be? I know we have some things done" he says thoughtfully.

"Not nearly enough. Finn, I never thought about this before. But if your family is there at our wedding how are we going to serve them dinner? What do they eat anyway? I don't know how this is all going to work out" I worry.

"I know what they will eat. They might just stay for our ceremony. Not sure if they will stay for the whole celebration. Your human weddings are a lot different and a lot longer than our weddings" he points out. I never thought of that either.

"We still have a lot of work to get done" I sigh.

"We will get it all done" Finn vows to me. He kisses my cheek. We head home for the day. I was happy that Finn had the day off of work. I still had not managed to find a job yet before the wedding. I was desperate to make some extra cash to. I did not want Finn paying for the whole wedding. That was just not fair.

"Did you have a good time today?" he asks me as I hold his hand in my own. I nod.

"I sure did. I love days like this. With just you and I" I say.

"Me to" he says as he smiles my way. We soon get to Gram's home. He parks the car in the drive way. Gram had not needed the car. So she let us borrow it. I had been helping Finn learn how to drive. He was doing well with his permit so far. We just let him drive into town. We had not taken him on the highway yet. He was still learning.

"How did I do boss?" Finn asks me as he tosses me Gram's car keys.

"You are doing great sir! Before you know it you will be a proud owner of a driver's licenses'" I giggle as I kiss him.

"I hope so" he says grinning.

"Come on. Let's go show Gram all the goodies we got her today" I say joyfully. We get out of the car. Carry things inside. I notice something. Bags were on the floor. Someone was here.

"Is your Gram having company?" Finn asks as he notices the bags to. I knew who's bags these belonged to. MOTHER.

"Hello there Sydney dear" I wince as I hear her call my name. She heads out in the living room to greet Finn and I. Finn sets the food we bought away in the kitchen. Mother engulfs me in a hug.

"You did not tell me you were coming" I grumble as she hugs me.

"I told you I was thinking about coming" she reminds me.

"Thinking and doing are two totally different things" I say.

"Are you not happy to see your mother?" she demands to know.

"I am. Really" I sigh. Really I was NOT. She better be nice to Finn.

"I see you found out your mother came to meet Finn" Gram says as she joins us in the living room. I nod.

"Great" I lie as I smile back at my mother.

"So Finn, I hear wedding bells are ringing?" mother asks Finn as he joins us. He looks nervous. Poor fella. I do not blame him. I place my hand into his.

"Yes they are" I tell mother.

"Nice to finally meet you" Finn tells my mother as he sticks his hand out to shake hers.

"How about we have a snack out on the deck. Get to know each other?" Gram offers. I sigh.

"Sure, I would love that" mother says. Gram is much to nice to mother. We follow Gram outside to the deck. We all sit down. Gram heads back inside to get the snack made.

"So why do you two want to rush into a wedding? So soon? I mean you two just got together correct?" mother has to start in with me and Finn.

"Mother" I warn under my breath.

"Sydney and I have worked really hard to be together. We want to stay together" Finn tries to explain to her the best he can.

"I am sure you did. I am not saying you did not. My point is what is the rush? Why rush into marriage so young? Just enjoy being together. You do not have to be married to do so" she has to say.

"Mother, just because your marriage failed does not mean mine will" I snap. She looks at me. Hurt flashes in her eyes. She was going to far when she was messing with Finn. No one was going to stop me from marrying the love of my life.

"Here is a snack! Peaches with ice cream. Fresh cut ones. Compliments of Finn. Also here is some fresh tea" Gram is saying as she comes on the deck carrying a tray of food with her. No one is saying a word now.

"I am feeling a bit jet lagged. I am going to lay down for a bit" mother says as she glares at me.

"Are you sure? I made a snack" offers Gram.

"I will have something later. I really need to lay down" mother grumbles. She gets up. Heads inside. I sigh.

"What did I miss here?" Gram asks me.

"Mother was starting in on Finn. I warned her not to do so. I told her just because her marriage failed did not mean my own was doomed to" I tell Gram. She sighs.

"She means well sugar. She is looking out for you is all. We both know Finn is great for you. I want you two to get married. But she was hurt. She is hurting. She will take some time to get used to this marriage idea. I am sure she will come around to things" Gram promises me.

"I doubt it" I sigh.

"She is your mother Sydney. Mine were not pleased I came up here to be with you. I left everything for you. They were mad at first. But they know how important you are to me. And that I need you in my life. I know it took them awhile for them to accept you. But they have. I am sure your mother will come around to" Finn says softly as he smiles my way. He always knew how to make me feel so much better about everything.

"I hope you are right. Even if she accepts you or not, I do not care. I am going to marry you. I want you as my husband. No one else. I love you" I promise Finn. He smiles.

"I love you to. I want nothing more than to have you as my wife. Try not to worry. Things will work out. Wait and see" he tells me as he squeezes my hand. I nod. I hoped Finn was right. Gram to.
