Genesis
Ava
She found herself lying helplessly in a large room, with a little window right above the top right corner with some iron drums stacked up on top of each other.
“Help. Somebody help.”She looked at her right side and saw the figure of someone resting with her legs facing the sky, her cloth tattered with holes .
A shiny oval piece was laying close to her hand, it was her moonstone pendant she said earlier that her grandmother gave to her before she passed away.
“Alicia. Alicia. You need to get up. Aliciaaaaa”
Wait is that blood all over your shirt Alicia. Alicia was unresponsive. She tried to move closer to where she was, but was held back. She couldn’t move.
“Ouch, my arm hurts”.She looked at her arm and saw that a iron piece probably from the shattered window blind had pierced deep within her flesh and blood was gushing out uncontrollably.
She cried. She cried because she thought she was about to die. Why was she here. Why was Alicia laying right next to her unresponsive in the pool of her own blood.
Who trapped them there?
Who wanted them dead?
Why is nobody hearing her cry?
At that point she knew pulling out the shrapnel could cause severe damage to what was before. She was losing blood.
A lot of blood at that.
“I don’t think I’ll make it. “
Things started going blurry. She tried to keep her self awake. It was too late. “Is this how my dreams are gonna end.”
Why can’t she remember anything, if not anybody, she can’t even remember how her day went.
She looked towards the window as she noticed the sun wasn’t shining as bright as it was , the skies were now orange and the sun no where in sight.
Which means one thing
The sun was setting. Is this how she was going to die, she thought so hard. I’m the midst of this thoughts, she felt her body slowly resting toward the floor. She couldn’t control her movements.
With the last strength in her, she whispered “Alicia”. Alicia didn’t move.
“Alicia “, that word echoed once more as she fell to the ground laying on her side, now unconscious and the shrapnel piercing even deeper. The hole got bigger. Blood gushed out like never before.
There was a resounding silence that echoed so loud in the room.
How did we get here
Let’s take you back in time to the very beginning
Ava was a young journalist who had just graduated out of college with honors in mass communication. The very first graduate of her family who came to the states to seek for a greener pasture and a better life.
Her father just got a job at the bank as a janitor. He was Hooked up with the job through his childhood friend, Andre El Mario as he called him.
He was so excited to be able to take care of his new family as he just welcomed the arrival of his new daughter.
Just 8 months prior, he got married to his teenage sweetheart at a small church in his town surrounded with friends and family. It was a small wedding as they had round tables set just at the church yard which was very spacious and had a lot of trees around.
“It was magical”. Estrella said as she was telling Mario’s wife as they were unpacking the huge bags and boxes they came with. Mario and his wife couldn’t make it but they sent their well wishes.
“It was indeed magical. Like a fairytale experience. There was a walk way right in the middle decorated with hoops of flowers as a blue carpet flowed from the entry right to the wedding platform.”
In their culture, the color red was seen as a bad omen and they went with blue carpet instead. They prepared enough just to feed the few guests they had over.
Few hours, the place was running busy with the amount of people that came to celebrate with them. There was music bursting aloud from the four speakers the church had given them to use, children were running around , playing as their mother’s just shook their head as they didn’t respond when they called them.
People saw it as a venture to greet those they haven’t seen in years and asking about their well being.
The groom has arrived. A young, tall man who wore a black suit , rumpled and all with a white tennis shoe.
“A white tennis shoe you say”, Estrella asked as she adjusted her top showing her total interest in what she said.
“Yes , a white tennis shoe, I married him in his white tennis shoe. “
My arrival was then announced by my husband’s younger brother, you know him right
“Yes I do”,she answered
Estrella got up to turn on the light right above them. It was dark and she couldn’t see the movement of her mouth anymore.
Sweet tunes and melodies soon filled the air. It was so beautiful and calm that everyone started moving their heads to it unconsciously.
“Here comes bride! Ta ta ta ta ta”
People responded to the well known wedding hymn,
“All dressed in white…they giggled too”
“Mhm mhm mhm mhm “
Estrella and Felicia also hummed as they giggled hard at their own playfulness
I walked down the aisle with my papa right beside me. My hands tucked into his, he tried to hide his tears which he had earlier released when he saw me in the dressing room
He was so filled with so much joy to see his only daughter get married. He handed me over to my husband who was already smiling at me. I was so happy, I couldn’t hide it anymore.
I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride. “Waitttttt. No spoilers Felicia, let’s hear from the lion’s mouth.”
“Mario! Mario”
Estrella called Mario who was seated outside with her husband ,telling him about how the past months had been touch, the challenges they face since they stay in the states and what they should be on the look out for.
He couldn’t hear her. She got up dragging Felicia by her right hand . she fell. There was a large thrushing sound as her body hit the floor.
“Owww! I guess I missed a step”.She got up brushing up the dust that had collected when her body came in contact with the floor.
“Are you okay? He noticed the grin on his wife’s face and right there he knew something was wrong. “I’m Alright my dear, just a little bruise
“A little you say, you gotta be more careful my love”. He blew softly at the bruise , trying to get it to stop bleeding . I’ll clean it up for ya, I’ll be right back. He pecked her cheek , assuring her she’ll be fine. Yes indeed she was.
He went in to look for the little first aid kit they had pack in the front zip of his backpack. He was about to open the bag when he heard cries coming from the inner room.
“Oh oh! Guess who’s awake now. “
His little princess was. He would never forget the first time he held her. She immediately stopped crying when she was scooped into his hands while he rocked her back and forth.
His whole life changed ever since.
“Felicia, little ava is awake now”, he yelled, still tryin to get the ball of wool and methylated spirit from the first aid kit he just found.
She picked her up and gave her little kisses. She was one little precious baby with a smile that will melt your heart.
