Moonlit Reflections
I found solace sitting by the serene lake, its dark waters shimmering under the moonlight. The tranquil night embraced me, wrapping me in a cloak of solitude. The ethereal glow illuminated the surrounding landscape, casting long shadows that danced among the trees. It was a haven, a place where my thoughts could roam freely, unburdened by the constraints of reality. My mother's voice pierced through the silence, her worry evident in her words. "What are you doing here? Can't you see it's late already?" She was always concerned for my well-being, her love a constant presence in my life. They may not have given birth to me, but my adoptive parents showered me with affection, treating me as their own. When my mother and father discovered they couldn't have a child of their own, they opened their hearts to adoption, yearning for the joy of parenthood. But my existence became the catalyst for the Alpha's disdain for adopting children. He despised the idea of bringing "scraps" like me into his pack. The truth was, I knew nothing about my birth parents--where they were, who they were, or why they had left me. Nor was I considered of good use in this pack. "Mom, I'm not a child. I'm pretty sure I can handle a little bit of darkness," I retorted, my gaze fixated on the distant horizon of the lake. "Can you?" she questioned, her voice tinged with concern, aware of my vulnerability. "What should I be scared of?" I inquired, my voice with a hint of defiance. "Have you forgotten you've been stepping on the Alpha's toes lately?" she reminded me, her voice laden with caution. "How pathetic of him to kill a weak and defenseless Omega," I replied, a touch of sarcasm creeping into my voice. "He might not kill you, but he doesn't have to protect you either. And you know I can't protect you if anything were to happen. We are just Omegas Pheonix, you know we are too weak to protect ourselves," she confessed, her words laced with worry. Frustration welled up within me, fueling my anger. "See, maybe that's your problem," I snapped, rising to my feet with annoyance etched on my face. "You all think so lowly of yourselves. And I won't stand to be slapped with stupid labels on my back," I declared, my voice trembling with indignation. "Watch your tone, Phoenix!" she scolded, her anger evident. "No, Mom! I'm tired of being treated like I'm some useless piece of trash. Why should we have to serve those... those perverts!" I retorted, my frustration boiling over. "Phoenix, are you trying to get hurt? Do you want the Alpha to send you to the dungeon?" Her words were filled with both anger and fear, the weight of the consequences heavy on her. "I don't care, Mom. They always have stupid excuses to lock me in the dungeon anyway. At least today they'll have a good one," I replied defiantly. "Phoenix, you go back to your room right now!" she shouted, pointing me towards our small house. Huffing with anger, I stormed away. I couldn't comprehend why everyone was so against me, why they couldn't see the injustice in it all. Wasn't it exhausting to be treated as though they didn't matter? It all started when I was young. Back then, they hadn't been as harsh, but still, I felt like an outsider. Then came my 16th birthday, the day I was supposed to shift. It never happened. They thought I was just a little late, but now, on the verge of my 23rd birthday, there was still no sign of my transformation. The pack had turned cold toward me, rejecting me for not possessing a wolf. In their eyes, I didn't truly belong in this world; I was practically human. Just as a werewolf was to a human, I was a monster to them. On my 18th birthday, I was also supposed to find my mate which I never did. Deep down, I knew they would reject me, so I couldn't say I was truly saddened by it. People had taken advantage of my weakness, tossing me around like a ragdoll. Everywhere I went, I was subjected to cruel taunts and insults. They made sure I understood my place, especially the Alpha himself. The Alpha's ego couldn't bear the fact that I refused to let them label me. I had been deprived of countless opportunities due to their prejudice. I had dreamt of becoming a warrior, protecting the pack, but that dream was shattered. Who would want a weak Omega like me to be their warrior? But mostly, I aspired to be a nurse, to heal and care for my pack, but I was denied the chance to finish high school just like any other Omega. Omegas were deemed fit only for the kitchen, serving the pack. The Alpha and his followers believed we had nothing more to learn and would be just a waste of resources. Only those higher were allowed to further their education. When I pleaded for a chance, they laughed in my face. Enough was enough. But being an Omega, no one bothered to listen to me. Most were too afraid of the Alpha's wrath. His word was law, and he cared not for the opinions of others. Standing my ground only aggravated the Alpha, and I could sense his frustration. I was two minutes away from him tearing off my head with his bare hands. His inflated ego couldn't bear the thought of one wolfless Omega defying him. Returning to our small house, a mere few seconds away from the pack house, I found something that further soured my mood. Alpha Marcus stood in our modest living room, his towering presence casting a shadow over my father's diminutive frame. Anger ignited within me as I witnessed their confrontation. I paid little attention to their discussion, for I knew it would only echo what I had heard before. My eyes locked onto the Alpha, disgust etched across my face, before I turned away, my hatred unspoken. "Phoenix!" Alpha Marcus's voice reverberated in my mind, his mind link reaching out to me. "What?" I retorted, my irritation palpable. "Shouldn't you be in the kitchen, preparing dinner with the other Omegas?" he growled, his dominance attempting to assert control. "I don't know, should I?" I shot back, refusing to yield. I could sense his anger escalating, but I cared little for his fury. "Phoenix!" my father called, his voice laced with fear. "Yes, Father?" I responded, looking at him with weariness. "Why don't you show a little respect for your Alpha?" he pleaded, clearly afraid of the consequences my defiance might bring. My gaze shifted to the Alpha, waiting for me to comply with my father's request. Though a multitude of scathing words burned on my tongue, I swallowed them for the sake of peace. "I'll be in my room if you need me. I love you, okay?" I replied, my voice tinged with exhaustion, before walking away and retreating to my small room. Within its confines, I threw myself onto the bed, lost in a whirlwind of thoughts before finally succumbing to sleep.
