Upon hanging up the phone, I realized that Luna Freya was stalling me. Alessandro's mother was no longer sure about doing the favor she had committed to, if she had ever truly committed to it in the first place. Valencia, my Beta, called immediately.
"The rogues are ready, ma'am. They're just waiting for you to indicate the day and time the human will enter their territory."
I growled, annoyed at having to break the news to Valencia, who had been eagerly awaiting confirmation that the human was in our hands.
"I just spoke with Luna Freya, and I'm afraid she won't provide us with Alessandro's escort." I sensed, despite the distance, the disappointment it caused Valencia. "Unless something extraordinary happens, we'll have to cancel this operation."
