Chapter 3

2088 Words
NB: This chapter is a scene before chapter one and two. Salvatore Thursay It was Thursday evening and I needed coffee. I wasn't home. I went to visit my best friend, Jason, and was on my way home but I could'nt understand why I needed coffee so bad. There's this 24/7 cafe along the road. I think they'll have good coffee. Well I hope. You could just wait till you get home. You know? Nahh. I want this coffee now. I think I should go to the cafe. I parked my baby at the front of the cafe. I got her as a birthday present from mom last year. "24/7 cafe," I read and shrugged. I looked at my bike to make sure that I packed in a convenient space before walking into the cafe. After taking a seat, I signalled to a waitress. She just nodded and walked over to where another waitress stood. She said something and pointed at me, I thought she has an order already. But I couldn't see the face of the waitress she sent to me initially because she backed me. Finally the second waitress started towards me. Something in the way she walked looked familiar. Finally, she stopped at my table. I knew it. She was the one. The same girl from school who avoided speaking to anyone except her friend or maybe best friend. The same girl who came first in the list of the not-cools at the end of every semester. Her name is Ciara Daniels, I think. She stooped at my table and asked for my order. "Espresso would do " I said as I inhaled her scent. "Okay," she said and turned away. I don't think she knows me. She was always quiet at school. I felt like there was something about her. Something I should find out. There should be a reason why she was always reserved. She barely talked at school. No one would just come up with such an idea. Maybe I should talk to her. What am I thinking? She'll f*****g ignore me. Why would I even care about why she's so quiet? Maybe my curious part is out at it's work. I just wanted know. Probably. But as she came close, I inhaled her scent again. Damn. I love her scent. Like fresh roses. What the f**k am I thinking? I felt like talking to her. I wanted have a real conversation with her but she was so reserved. Why would she talk to me? I can try to be sweet and friendly. Yeah! That's it, perfect. She came back with the coffee. But as she was about to go I held her hand to stop her. She stopped and looked at me. Piercing emerald eyes. "How can I help you?" she asked politely eyeing from her hand to my face. "Oh-oh, sorry about that," I said releasing her hand. "You're pretty though" She raised a brow. "Thank you," She said obviously not impressed. "You look really pretty, you're in high school?" I asked. Damn me. I know she's in high school. But I continued anyway, since I'm trying to be the Mr nice guy here. "Give me your contact". Who does that? "Excuse me, I have work to do," she replied and was about to walk away. Does she always avoid a conversation with everyone? "If you walk away, I can get you fired," I blurted out. I can't believe I just said that. "Okay," she replied and turned to go again. "I'm serious" "And who do you think you are to get me fired?" She said as turned, folded her hands and moved her head in a dramatic way. "You'll know, when you walk away," I replied. Yeah. She'll know. Ego has totally taken over. She turned to look at me and said "excuse me," before walking away. "Don't forget that I'm the customer here," I called after her. She turned back to look at me and she started walking over to me again. Sounds like she loves her job. Being a customer felt really cool and I really wanted to tease her. She looked interesting too. "You know what? You came here to buy coffee not to flirt with me and I've been really cool with you, but you seem to have taken my politeness for granted which has given you the guts to tell me that you'll get me fired. I don't care about who you are or what you can do but I'll warn you to stay away from me if you want peace," she poured out staring straight into my eyes. Okay, I wasn't expecting that but wow. Interesting. "Okay, calm down, you look like you're gonna explode in a bit," I said and chuckled. Drama. As she raised her hand to point at me, she mistakenly hit my coffee and it spilled all over me. I cried out in pain, it was damn hot. Perfect. All eyes on us. I don't know what came over me as I started talking. "Why would someone employ a waitress like you?" I started "I ordered Macchiato but you brought espresso then I told you that I don't want it, and what you do next is to deliberately empty the cup on me?" "What? I don't understand you?" She said. I noticed that she was confused. I really wanted to laugh at the expression on her face but I didn't want to ruin the moment. "Are you trying to deny it?" I asked raising one brow up. She looked completed confused and angry. "Wow, it was an accident. By the way you ordered espresso not macchiato," she said "What do you mean?" I questioned. Now I had everyone's attention. "Are you trying to say that I'm lying?" I continued. "You know what? I'm out of here and I'll tell everyone I know not to patronize here since you don't know how to treat your customer right," I threatened and as I was about to walk away someone came and stopped me. "Excuse me!!!" Someone called just as I was about to walk away. I turned to see who it was. A short woman who looked middle-aged approached me. "I'm really sorry about this, it will never repeat itself, I promise. You know what? How about we give you a free service for one week. I'm deeply sorry," the middle-aged woman said and she kept on talking and pleading while Ciara just watched. Finally I spoke. "Ma'am I'm sorry but I don't think I'll need the free service, all I need is an apology from your rude waitress," I said staring at Ciara. Then Ciara's eyes widened. I was sure that she would start seeing me as a demon right then. And I didn't really know what demon had possessed me. "You heard him Ciara. Apologize right away," the woman said. I see. It's either this woman is either the owner or is in charge of this place. But I'm loving this anyway. "I'm not going to apologise to him. He's an asshole. He just framed me up. He was actually threatening to get me fired from here and I mistakenly hit his cup of coffee and it spilled on him, I didn't do it intentionally," she said truthfully. "Well, I don't care. Just apologise," the middle-aged woman said. "I said I won't" "You don't want to get fired, do you?" "Well, I don't want to. But I'm not apologising," she said as she folded her hands. "Well then, I'm giving you the last chance now" I just stood and watched the drama. I'm kind of enjoying this but then I realised something. This woman does not deserve her. I mean, I know girls like her would be very dedicated to their work and loyal to their boss. But the woman does not seem to care about the truth that she was telling. I would have helped her to secure her job but something kept me mute. Then I heard "You're fired" Ciara looked at the woman then back at me and walked over to the counter, dropped her apron and walked out. She didn't acknowledge anyone. She didn't argue. She didn't talk. She just walked out. Conscience hit me. Real bad. Friday "Please just give her the job," I pleaded with Michael, Mom's PA. I've been pleading with him to employ Ciara since I made her lose her job. "Fine, I will," he accepted finally. "Thanks man. I really appreciate " "Is she your girlfriend?" "Well. No. It's a long story" "Okay then," he said and hung up. Michael and I are quite close and he's really cool. He's always putting on white and I don't know why. I should ask him one of these days. I had checked the people who had applied as a babysitter for my sister and I found out that Ciara had also applied. I decided to talk to Michael to give the job to her since she lost her previous job because of me. Thankfully, he accepted and we both made a deal not to tell her that I got the job for her. She's to start work tomorrow because mom's gonna be travelling. Although it's a day's job, what mom's gonna pay her will be way better than whatever she earning from that goddamn cafe. But what really happened last night? I felt like I was not in control of myself. Like some demon possessed me. I saw her at school today but she didn't see me. She was as usual. Silent. Reserved. Barely moved her lips. Not even a smile. Which girl does that? But I must say she's not bad. She's pretty and when I told her that she was pretty yesterday I actually meant it. Although she was dressed with an apron on her neck and undearnneath the apron was a simple pair of jean with red shirt but damn it! She rocked the dress. She packed her long and silky black hair in a ponytail. To be honest I find her really pretty. She looks cool too. My phone was ringing. "Hey Jason," I said as I picked up. "Guy, where the f**k did you drop your phone I've called about five time now" "Really?" I asked dumbly and looked at the screen of my phone to see the notifications. Oh. 4 missed calls from Jason, 8 from Maddie and 3 messages from Maddie again. Maddie. Argh. What does she want now? She stalked me all day at school, now I've missed her call 8 times. "Man, I'm sorry. I might have dozed off" "As suspected," he said and I let out a small laugh. "So, what's up" "It's Maddie, she's called me about fifteen times now, man, she's so crazy about you. She said you have'nt been picking her calls and wants me to talk to you on her behalf" "And you wanna talk to me about her" "Maybe" "I'll hang up if you do, you can make your decision," I said as I stood up and walked to my fridge. "You're threatening me?" He asked as I picked a pack of orange juice and poured a portion in a cup. "I am, man" "Then f**k you" "f**k you hard," I replied. "Nahh. I'm not bi bro," he replied and we both laughed. "My sister is gonna be getting a new babysitter tomorrow," I said. "That's not new bro, she gets new nannies everyday," he said. "I know. But this one is not a nanny. She's gonna be a babysitter." I felt dumb right then. "Does that make her different" "Yeah" "How?" "Nevermind," I said as I took a big gulp from the juice. "Talk to you later, boy. My mom's at her work again." That means his mom has started a drama. I felt bad for him. His mom and dad got separated because of his mom's naggy nature, his sibling stays with their dad while he decided to stay with his mom. "Alright, talk to you later, my regards to her," I replied and hung up. _____________________________________ Hi guys.
