Chapter one
Ciara P.O.V
I kept staring at the message on my phone. I didn't know why I felt so excited about working for Mrs Castillo.
Maybe I was nervous not excited.
No I couldn't be nervous. I was not nervous.
What was happening to me?
Working for Mrs Castillo felt like a blessing, I mean, babysitting her daughter. I heard the little girl has got quite a temper but I thought I could handle her. At least, after babysitting about 10 kids this month.
Mrs Castillo was one of the most popular and richest business women around. Maybe that was why I felt ervous. By the way, her daughter, Sofia, scared away all her nannies, so, her mom wanted to hire a reliable nanny to take care of her but for the time being I was to babysit her.
I looked at my phone again to check for any message since Mr Dove promised to text me again. None. I rolled over and laid on my back with my eyes closed. When I opened my eyes, I was welcomed by the vibration of my phone.
"Are you sure you can handle this Ms Daniels?"
It was a message from Mrs Castillo's PA, Mr Dove. I sighed in relief.
"Yes sir. I won't let you down."
"Good. You have the address . You'll start work tomorrow by 8:00 am. Make sure you make it early. Goodnight."
That was it. Tomorrow, Saturday, I was going to babysit Mrs Castillo's daughter, Sofia. I had assignments but they could wait till Sunday. I sighed again and sat up. Then, I had a job again but I still had this strange feeling.
I probably felt that was because I beloved Mrs Castillo would expect me to be perfect and I didn't know how I would have done.
Right. That should be the reason. I looked at the time on my phone again and laid back, it was late.
I found the vacancy notice online, initially, I didn't want to go for it because I prefered to work at a coffee shop but something pushed me to apply anyway. By the way, I lost my job yesterday, thanks to the mysterious guy who lied against me. He would have simply tried to talk to Mrs Dongany to give him a job there if he needed it instead lying against me. But thankfully, I got this job with Mrs Castillo because the pay was better. Yeah! She was to pay me $1000 just for a day. Just one day of work.
I closed my eyes to drift to sleep.
Tomorrow's gonna be a busy day.
*******
Beep beep beep.
"Argh... does it have to be this early?" I asked my alarm clock as I rolled to the other side of my bed to continue my sleep since it was Saturday but something struck me and my eyes snapped open immediately.
Mrs Castillo.
OMG! what's the time? I picked my phone and checked. 7:30 am. Dammit!! Going late on your first day won't create a good impression of you. Even if it's a one day job.
Quickly, I ran to the bathroom. The bathroom is located opposite my room. We all shared one bathroom.
"Hey Sweetheart! Good morning," Dad called out as I walked pass him.
"Good morning Dad." I entered the bathroom and closed the door.
"I'm making breakfast, I'll be in the kitchen. Do you have plans for today?" He asked but I didn't respond.
"Hurry up and come grab breakfast. We can hang out today too, if you don't have anything to do. I'm not going to work," he said finally before I heard him move to the kitchen. Where I think he actually had been before I woke up.
After taking a very quick shower, I ran back to my room and got dressed in a black t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans.
I've always done shifts but I've never been nervous about them. I've worked at coffee shops, at a kindergarten as a part time keeper, at pizza places, as a delivery girl at restaurants, and so many other places but none has ever made me so nervous.
You must be wondering why I work so hard. My dad lost his job about five years ago because of mom but he has been able to pick one or two petty jobs to do.
Argh. Not the best time for this.
I should be able to make it before 8:00. I was always punctual.
Mrs Castillo's house was the biggest here. She had so many houses out there at other places but she wanted her family here. I didn't know what exactly she liked about this place. I mean she was a f*****g rich woman. Rich enough to buy the whole of this place.
I was not sure, Alex told me all those.
Quickly, I picked my purse and my phone and ran out to meet dad. Didn't get a chance to look at the mirror. The truth is I rarely did because I don't bother to. I don't even know what's going on in my environment. I barely had time to notice. Yeah, I know I should try to give a little more attention to myself.
My life was just.
Home.
School.
Work.
I know, I was a very boring person but I had to work really hard for my family. After mom left us and dad lost his job, things had been really hard, dad worked himself to death, day and night, he barely had time for himself, just to make sure Alex and I hada good life, but I won't let him do it alone, I had to assist him. It was not dad's fault that we're not rich so why should he work alone when there's something I could do?
I left my room for the kitchen to talk to dad about today's work.
"Dad?"
"Darling," he replied as he looked back from the kitchen.
"Dad, I'm sorry about earlier, did I tell you that I have work today with Mrs Castillo?" I asked as soon as I got to the kitchen and sat on the counter.
"Well, I don't remember, is that why you were such in a hurry?" He asked.
I nodded.
"Breakfast?" He asked as he took a plate to serve the toast he made.
"I'm late for work dad," I replied and jumped down from the counter.
"But I wanted to hang out with you today, I'm not always at home to spend time with you two," he said. He looked disappointed as he returned the plate. "What's the work anyway?" He knows better than to stop me.
"I'm gonna be babysitting her daughter"
He chuckled. "You're not so great with kids, why you doing this?"
"We need the money dad"
"It's doesn't matter dear. I also wanted to spend sometime with you and Alex today"
"I'll make it back early," I replied as he held my face and I kissed his palm. "Where's Alex?" I asked.
"Someone's looking for me?" Alex called from behind as he jumped on the couch. "Where you off to?" He asked scanning me with his eyes dark brown eyes.
I looked back at his direction "to Mrs Castillo's and I don't have time. I'm supposed to be there by 8:00 am," I said rolling my eyes as I walked to the door, ready to go.
His face formed an expression of awe. "Are you kidding me? Mrs Castillo? That's so cool dude! You've got a date with her son?"
"She has a son?" I asked "I had no idea"
"C'mon Miss anti-social, don't act like you don't know. He attends our school," he said and continued blabbing in admiration of the so-called Mrs Castillo's son. "So, he asked you out on a date?" He finished.
"My angel's got a date?" Dad called out as he strode to the sitting room holding a cup of coffee.
Who was he kidding? I just told him I had work to do.
"What's wrong with both of you? Do I look like someone who has a date? I don't even know who you're talking about," I said looking from my dad to Alex. "I'm going to babysit her daughter, dumbskull," I finished fixing my eyes on Alex with my hands akimbo.
"Whatever," he replied rolling his eyes and waving his hand. "You know you've always been a boring ass"
"Don't talk to me like that," I snapped.
"Just go to meet your date," he said shooing me away with his hand.
It's no point arguing with Alex. I looked at dad, he was busy sipping his coffee with a small smile on his lips. He sat on the couch beside Alex. When he noticed my eyes on him, he poked Alex with his elbow and they both chuckled.
They enjoyed playing with me but when I get mad they both come to appease me with ice cream(my better half).
"I'm late dad. I'll try to come back early"
"You know you really don't have to..."
"See you later dad. I'll make it back early," I said as I ran outside.
I know what he wanted to say. But I had to help him anyway
Finally I got there, gladly I made it 7:59. "How can I help you young lady?" a middle-aged man asked. He seemed like the gatekeeper. Of course he was the gate keeper.
I used take this route to school, I mean, I saw this house almost everyday but I had never walked up to the gate, neither had I taken a good look at it until then. In fact, I had never imagined that I'll be here either until yesterday.
"I'm Sofia's new babysitter, just got employed," I replied while he stared at me from head to toe like I was not supposed to be here.
"When did you get employed?" He asked.
Seriously?
"Let her in, Robin!" A firm voice ordered.
God bless my hero!!
The man stepped aside immediately and I walked in to meet my hero, a man in all white, all he needed is a cape. I don't know if I should say this but, his black hair looked flawless.
"You must be Miss Daniels," he said with a smile as he walked towards me. "I'm Mrs Castillo's PA, Michael Dove, you can call me Michael," he said as he streched his hand for a handshake. He was wearing a silver ring and I suddenly felt happy for him.
"Ciara," I said as I took his hand.
"I know," he replied with a smile. Then he straightened up "You're just in time Ciara, 8:00 am. That's impressive"
"Thank you sir"
"C'mon, let's get to work," he said as he started walking to the house.
"Follow me," he commanded and I followed. We walked together through the walkway from the gate to the mansion.
This mansion can swallow hundreds of mine.
Or thousands.
I secretly admired the house while we walked in, the house is what I would call a masterpiece. Finally, we got to a room where a sophisticated looking woman in a red dress sat with travelling bags beside her. She legs were crossed and she seemed busy with her phone. She was wearing a red straight gown with silver heels.
"M'am," Micheal called.
Slowly she looked up at us. Then she beamed.
"You must be Ciara," she said as she looked up. "Come here." She gesture to the chair opposite her. "Sit"
"Thank you," I replied and sat as directed. I had a feeling it was going to be a long day.
