Lila’s POV
The figure stepped out of the darkness, its bright eyes fixed on us. My skin's glowing marks rose brighter with each step the beast took toward us, and I grasped Kian's hand while my pulse hammered.
With a deep, threatening voice, the ghost said, "You're too late." "I own the sanctuary."
Kian moved in front of me, his body tense and ready for war. "Who are you?"
The monster c****d its head and the fiery eyes narrowed. "I am the guardian of this land. And you're not wanted here.
Before Kian could respond, a familiar voice cried out behind us.

I turned as Kael came from the trees, my heart bursting in my throat. His sandy blond hair was untidy, and his warm brown eyes were filled with joy as he rushed toward us.
"Kael?" I mumbled, my voice tremulous.
