I sit up in bed, gasping and holding back a scream of fear. My hands shoot to my throat looking for the prong collar. It’s not there. My heart is racing and I’m covered in sweat. “It was only a dream,” I say out loud. Shutting my eyes, I take several slow deep breaths in an attempt to calm my nerves. Calmer now, I open my eyes again and realize there is sunlight peaking through the curtains in my room. Glancing at the small clock I keep on my nightstand, I see it’s just after eight in the morning. The memories of last night replay through my mind and I quickly look around and see the wolf is no longer on my bed and I don’t see him in my room. “Mr. Black?” I call out but the only thing I hear is birds chirping outside. I pause as I pull the blanket off my legs to get out of bed. D
