CHAPTER 3

1168 Words
3 years later: "Ahh…." Jessica gasped and opened her eyes. She covered her face with her hands like she was not sure if she had awakened to reality or she was still witnessing the nightmare.  She was covered in a cold sweat, her body was trembling.  She was looking around the room suspiciously. Wait a minute was somebody standing behind the curtains? Oh what if it is a robber? Frankly she will be fine if it’s a robber but she won’t be fine if it’s the person from her nightmare. She pinched herself to make sure she was not dreaming.  Sometimes dreams feel more lifelike than reality. She grabbed a vase and walked towards the curtain quietly. She was going to slide the curtain but then she thought what if the robber is armed? She swayed the vase with all the force of her little body. No one was there. God! What is wrong with her? How can a person who is no longer a part of your life have such a control on you? She slapped herself and reminded her "It was just a dream. He is gone." She felt like there was a battle between her heart and her mind. Her heart was not willing to accept what her mind already knew. She noticed that she was not in the same clothes that she had put on the other night. What happened the other night?  She opened the windows and felt the cold wind kissing her skin.  She closed her eyes to recall what happened last night but she had no memories? There were two glasses of wine on the table. This means someone was here. Just a few days ago she was in a club drinking away her miseries and the next thing she remembered was that she was in bed with some English guy. Did she make the same mistake again? Her head was hurting like someone was hitting it with a hammer. She was nauseous and a little dizzy. This explains why she is not able to recall last night. Maybe she should make herself some lemonade to get rid of this hangover.  Oh she accidentally steps on something. It seems to be a locket. Wait, she has seen it before. Her hands begin to tremble and she drops it. This means… "What the hell?", she whispers. She ran downstairs and called out to her housekeeper. “Beth… Beth… “ Where the hell was she? "Jessica, honey I have made us breakfast. I wanted to make French toast but we were out of eggs so I made pancakes instead. I know that you don't like pancakes but I had no other option."  Her heart skipped a beat. She recognized the voice. This can’t be true. Is he here? She heard footsteps approaching towards her. She took a few steps back.  Someone was standing behind her. She was breathing loudly. This voice induced the visions of her past and paved the way to the memories that she didn’t want to live. Isn’t it weird we struggle to get over our past but before we can even know it becomes our present. She turned her head around and saw a man dressed in an elegant suit coming towards her.  “ Noah.”, She whispered. She thought that she would never see him again, especially after what happened in the past. Three years back he made it very clear that she meant nothing to him. She was a thrash that belonged on the road and not in his life. “Why are you here?” She asked him. "Do you want some wine because I do.” What was she asking and what was he answering. "It is not the answer to my question.” She was living her nightmare with open eyes. "I can say the exact same thing. No worries, I will help myself.” He ignored her question and went to the wine cabinet. He poured himself a glass of wine and smirked.  Three years back he made her life hell. He was not ready to accept her as his wife, loving her was a far different question. He tormented her every second. She begged him to kill her because death seemed to be an easier punishment but he said that he wanted to see her alive and in pain. "What are you doing here? " She asked him repeatedly but not even once he answered her. "You have a terrible memory wifey. The house that you are living in belongs to me." "Where were you all these years?" He went close to her and checked her out the pretty girl that stood in front of her still in astonishment. He grabbed her by her waist and pulled her closer. "I got to say you were much more fun at night, wifey." "Last night. . . . La-Last night. What happened last night?" "Don't you remember what happened last night?" "I was so drunk last night. W-wait a minute. I. . . . I saw you. It was not a dream. What happened between us." "The same thing that happens between a husband and a wife." He gave her a boyish smile. She didn't know how to respond. All these years she didn't even exist for him and now he was not only back but he was also referring to her as his wife. What was going on in his head? "Your husband is back, could you be any less enthusiastic. Unless you don't want me to return." Her heart was beating rapidly and she didn't know what to say or how to react.  All these years she was waiting for him to return. She left him a thousand messages but he never bothered to answer one. All her calls went unanswered. Though he was rude and arrogant and stubborn, still he was the missing piece of her puzzle. "I never thought that you would return." She went and sat beside him. Slowly but cautiously she held his hand. He pulled his hand back and walked past the lady. He poured her a glass of water. "Drink it." She took the glass of water without even asking a question while still looking at him with disbelief wondering what brought him back. Her heart was beating rapidly. She knew that she would regret the question she was about to ask but she was not able to hold it back any longer. "What brings you back? And where were you all these years. I left you a lot of messages and. . . . . " He gave her a sharp look and she started to stammer. " An-And. . . .How long will you stay here? ?" "You ask a lot of questions, Don't you? Just to be clear, I hate people who ask a lot of questions." She takes a deep breath and tries to explain herself. "Jessica, I want us to have a child." "What?. . ."She spits out the water.
